Cover more ground without moving your feet

12x wide-angle to telephoto Zoom-NIKKOR glass lens

Despite its slim size, the COOLPIX S6400 packs a powerful wide-angle to telephoto Zoom-NIKKOR glass lens. Zoom in 12x and capture a detailed close-up of a distant subject. Then zoom out for a wide-angle shot that shows just how far away your subject was. Even at those great distances, your photos and videos will be crystal clear—VR image stabilization ensures a little camera shake never ruins a shot.
{%= nikon.tmpl_queue.add(function(){var b=nikon("#si-overview-slider-container-zoom").css({width:"435px",height:"326px"}),a=function(a,c){b.css("background-position","-"+435*c.value+"px 0")};b.next().slider({range:"min",value:0,min:0,max:4,animate:"fast",step:1,slide:a,change:a})}) %}

Focus where you want it

Nikon's New Intelligent AF System

Have you ever captured what would have been a great shot only to discover that your camera focused on the wrong thing? With the COOLPIX S6400 your focus is always in the right place. Its Intelligent AF System analyzes your photo, determines the main subject and applies exactly the right focus in the right places for razor-sharp results—even on small, close-up objects.

Bring home beautiful memories

Stunning photos and Full-HD videos

Transport your friends and family to faraway places with your photos and videos. The COOLPIX S6400's highly sensitive CMOS sensor excels in low-light conditions like sunsets, fireside gatherings or dim restaurants, so you'll bring home shots never before possible. All the splendor of your adventure will be captured in brilliant clarity.

Creativity at your fingertips

Wonder how that photo would look in black & white? With Quick Effects, you can preview 30 different effects and filters by swiping the camera's 3.0-inch touchscreen. Find one you like, tap Save and get back to shooting!

Relive the moment in high-definition

With the touch of a button, the COOLPIX S6400 starts recording Full HD (1080p) videos with stereo sound. Capture an amazing moment forever, then relive it every time you watch the movie.

The ViewNX2 Software leave much to be desired The installation process of the ViewNX2 locked up my computer twice. I certainly hope it works better than the installation process. If not I will be requesting a replacement CD. May 7, 2013
HAVE to have my CoolPix! Lost my Coolpix RIGHT when there was a shortage. I tried Canon and another brand and was relieved when I cold get my hands on another set up from Costco. First of all, I LOVE IT. Here is some random feedback: The video feature was TOO EASY! LOL I couldn't figure it out so got the manual and thought I was an idiot for NOT getting it intuitively. I guess I was used to the old version. The case has to go. It opens up in my purse and doesn't have a loop like the old one. Need to rethink the magnetic closure. I am still getting used to the settings but am so happy to be back to this camera I love. April 3, 2013
Just Wonderful Have owned many cameras and found the Coolpox S6400 Very user friendly. It has all the features of a larger more expensive camera yet you can gain excellent results on the first use. February 9, 2013
Great camera! We have owned several point and shoot cameras (including a canon powershot) and this is by far the best! The LCD screen is huge, I LOVE the touchscreen feature, the picture quality is awesome, the HD video is great. I recommend this camera to anyone, but especially people with children who like to wriggle, because the shutter speed and motion stabilizer are great for the price! January 23, 2013
Slylist Camera It is amazing camera.Cute and Nice. Thanks Nikon for this product. December 4, 2012

Answer:
The COOLPIX S6400 has 2 different 16 megapixel image mode options with different compression ratios and your choice of ratio will significantly impact the number of pictures will fit on your memory card.

The 16MP option that is indicated with a star in the menu is compressed at a ratio of approximately 1:4 - with this option you will be able to fit about 760 images on an 8GB card.

The 16MP option that is not starred in the menu is compressed at a ratio of approximately 1:8 and with this option you will be able to fit about 1520 pictures on an 8GB card.

Detailed information of these image mode settings and memory card capacity can be found on pages 49 and 50 of the Reference section of the S6400 manual. A list of approved memory cards for the S6400 can be found on page 23 of the Technical Notes and Index section of the manual. A copy of the S6400 manual can be downloaded from this address:

Answer:
The S6400 does not have an image size that corresponds to 19:16 aspect ratio.
The S6400 image mode/image size 4608x2592 corresponds to 16:9 and the rest of the image modes/image sizes corresponds to 4:3 aspect ratio. To resize your images to any other aspect ratio, you will need to do it in a picture editing software.

Having the camera Continuous Mode set to120fps, 60fps, or Multi Shot 16 will disable the image mode option Refer to page 71 of the manual for more information.

See page 10& 11 or page 49 (reference section) of the S6400 manual for information selecting an image size.

Answer:
You can turn off the S6400 Quick Effect Option to prevent it from asking you if you would like to apply quick effects after taking a picture, . Press Menu >> Press Quick Effects>> Press Off.

In addition, the faster the write speed of the memory card, the less time you have to wait for the camera to finish recording the image.

Answer:
Lens shift VR which is optical.
The camera detects how much and in which direction - up, down, left or right - the hand or body has moved, and the VR lens then moves in the required direction (opposite from the direction of the blur) to correct the optical axis and cancel out the blur. The high accuracy of this method even corrects small amounts of blurring that occur when the shutter is pressed.
