Excellent I have compared like cameras for the last two months trying to determine which product to purchase. Having used cameras of friends, I finally decided on the Nikon P-510. The picture quality and performance is unbelievable. I do not regret my purchase and would do this all over again as I believe I have purchased the finest camera in it's class! July 16, 2012
Awesome zoom and fine piictures! This camera is so impressive. The mega zoom is awesome and the pictures taken with the zoom are fine and have the balance and brightness. July 15, 2012
Great Camera with so many extras I have owned so many cameras but this is the best camera. It has everything that a person could want. There are some individuals that don't like the video portion but they just have to learn to use it right.. This camera as special effects when taking pictures that I have enjoyed and used many o them. I look forward to continuing to learn to use more of this camera's options and effects. July 11, 2012
Excellent portability! See's Saturn! I use this camera for reasons that should be done with a DSLR. The zoom helps me get the best picts from a safe distance in a war zone. I use manual settings for most of my shots. I included a picture of Saturn from a dark sky location. I used 1/80 shutter, 7.8 fstop and 1600 ISO on a Manfrotto tripod with a 10 second delay. For a point and shoot to reach out this far, is the reason why I do not have a DSLR and spare zooms. We had a mortor explode close by and the camera fell while attached to the tripod. The tripod 1/4" mount broke off the bottom plastic of the P510, so I epoxied the lower half of the camera back on. I would like to see a few changes in firmware. Allow full 8 sec shutter at any ISO. Add a RAW NEF or JPG choice. Allow digital zoom in Manual mode. Add a bulb function. Allow the screen to dim much more for night astrophotography. Add a finer focus control as the current one moves too course. Finally, make it in Gloss Yellow. July 11, 2012
Moral of the story - Stick with Nikon I've been a Nikon user for the past 25 years and have purchased several Nikon cameras, film and now digital. I recently read the specs of the Canon G1-X and bought it-and then took it back three days later and bought the P510. I was looking for a smaller, but quality-speced camera to use when my Nikon Digital SLR with accessories was too bulky. The most important spec for me was an electronic viewfinder which the P510 has. Everything else is icing on the cake and their's lot of icing - 42x optical zoom, built in GPS, PSA and M modes, 16.1 MP sensor but having an electronic view finder was the big one! Photos are great-a perfect camera for what I was looking for and it's easy to use. July 7, 2012

Answer:
When Autofocus mode in the movie menu is set to AF-S Single AF (default setting), the focus is locked when the movie-record button is pressed to start movie recording. To adjust the focus using the autofocus again while recording movies, press the multi selector ←. When the focus mode is MF (manual focus), adjust the focus manually. The focus can be adjusted by pressing the multi selector ↑ (Far) or ↓ (Near) while recording movies.

Answer:
This model of Coolpix has pre-set settings. You can use one of the scene modes settings to see which one will work for the type of photography you’re looking for. Also, you can control the settings by choosing Program, Aperture or Shutter priority or Manual Mode.
You can set the camera in Shutter priority or choose the Sport Scene mode on the camera.

I know this is a new model and you are on the right track but, my primary concern is that the camera is not fitted with threads to allow for UV filter for protection and others for effect. One could even use a tele converter and double the telephoto ability! The next problem i hear is the performance in low light, a hot shoe could address most of these issues.

Answer:
The GPS in the P510 is a receiver only, not a transmitter, it's not sending out a track-able signal. The only bright side to this is you happened to lose your camera just as Nikon is offering a $30 rebate on your replacement camera.

Sorry for your bad luck.

I'm pretty happy with the camera except for a couple of this - the lack of any filter options and the focus issue with video. On two occasions recently the camera completely failed to focus when shooting video in an auditorium when focusing on well lit subjects on the stage with pretty good contrast. The problem was so severe that any zoom beyond the widest setting made the image unfocused and essentially rendered the video function useless.

Are their any plans to fix this, if that is possible, through a firmware upgrade?

Thanks
