Ready for extreme adventures

Waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof

The AW100 can handle all that Mother Nature can throw at it. Take it diving to depths of up to 33-feet. Shoot at temperatures as cold as 14° F. And don't sweat drops of up to five feet. Whether it's in your hand, mounted to a surfboard, clipped on a backpack or attached to a scuba tank, every twist, splash, dive and crash can be recorded in both still and Full HD (1080p) movies. Plus, Nikon's new Action Control brings fast and easy operation to gloved hands. The AW100 lets you capture every thrilling moment from inside the action—not the sidelines.

Shoot in extreme low light

16.0 MP CMOS sensor

Adventure doesn't always happen during perfect photo-taking conditions. Imagine sharp images produced 33-feet underwater, photos and movies captured while you explore a dark cave, or snapshots nabbed during that last run just as the sun was setting. What does it take to get these and more? A 16.0 MP CMOS sensor that blazes through low light, fast action and challenging shooting conditions to capture high-impact photos with exceptional image quality and low noise. Shoot three shots in about one second using one-touch control for Full HD (1080p) movies and ensure not a single moment of your action-packed lifestyle is missed.
16-MP CMOS sensor captures great pictures, even in low lighting

Star in your own viral movies

Full HD (1080p) movies with stereo sound

Don't just share some photos with friends, put them inside the action with you. Imagine reliving the downhill snowboarding rush, the incredible view as you hang glide down a 4,000-foot peak or showing your friends exactly what it was like to ”shoot the tube” in Hawaii. Attach the AW100 to your gear, and with a single touch of the control you're creating an in-the-action Full HD (1080p) movie with stereo sound. You'll capture all of life's adventures from a whole new perspective—your own.

Always stay on track with the COOLPIX AW100's built-in GPS

See where you’re going, mark where you’ve been

Built-in GPS, mapping and Electronic compass

Imagine you and a friend are white water rafting down an unfamiliar route. The AW100's rugged waterproof build can take the pounding action while you record photos and movies of this incredible adventure. Use the built-in GPS to track progress with Nikon View NX2 software, NIkon's myPicturetown® photo sharing site or Google Earth™. A built-in map lets you view your path, and the Electronic compass is an extra safety measure that can even help you ascertain which branch to take if there's a fork in the stream. Your geo-tagged photo travelogue will give you bragging rights as you share the adventure with your friends.

Creative control even in gloves

A handy Action Control feature

More creativity at your fingertips—even if your fingertips are enclosed in ski gloves! The AW100's handy Action Control feature makes it easy to adjust specific camera settings. Wrapped up in the action with no time to change settings? The AW100 automatically adjusts camera settings. And if you're looking to add creativity, select in-camera effects such as black and white, or selective color. There's even an underwater mode to keep images colorful and properly exposed.
New Action Control feature makes camera adjustments easy even when wearing gloves
Five advanced Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization features keep images sharp
Steady even when you’re not

Five advanced VR image stabilizing features automatically reduce the streaky images associated with shaky cameras.

Motion detection keeps moving subjects in focus
Sharper objects in motion

To ward off motion blur, the AW100's motion detector automatically tracks moving subjects and adjusts the camera's settings to keep them in focus.

20 Scene Modes to match any setting

All weather camera, goes everywhere, easy to use My AW-100 has been in the back pocket of my cycling jersey for hundreds of bicycle rides over thousands of miles. It's the camera that is there when I want it. Easy to use, takes a good picture or 1080p movie on a moments notice. November 4, 2013
Rugged enough for my work. Haven't utilized camera yet, but it appears to have the features I need. October 3, 2013
Excellent for the Outdoors person I love this camera! It is great for hiking, kayaking and camping. Takes great outdoor shots and HD is excellent. This camera in NOT recommend for indoor shots, it has a very bright flash. Which is better near the campfire. But for the avid outdoor trekker, it a great companion to capture those events with great pics and HD video. August 20, 2013
Easy to take wonderful pictures We just returned from a 6 week National Park tour of Southwest America. I took over 600 pictures and was very happy with the quality and ease of use. It works well in all lights and distances. It is easy to carry while hiking and fits well in a small pocket on the motorcycle. My friends were amazed with the beautiful pictures. June 25, 2013
great camera! but very rarely it does fog up. 5 stars!(: this is the most epic camera i have ever owned! it is full hd and is super cool because if you go to the options for what type of camera taking option you want, (most users don't know this!) you can put in this slo-mo thing! it is so cool and i can't wait to use it this summer! like the other people said, it will take up to 7.1 fps (picture mode), and up to 240 fps in video mode. The higher the fps the lower the quality of the video.

Per the users manual page 36: http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/kie88335f7869dfuejdl=-cww2/AW100EN.pdf

In Continuous H mode: While the shutter-release button is pressed all the way, images are
captured continuously at a rate of about 7.1 frames per second
(when the image mode is Q 4608×3456). Shooting ends when
the shutter-release button is released, or three pictures have been
taken continuously.

Did you have trouble finding this information online or just didn't bother to do a little search?

Hope this helps!

I posted the question and quicktime is not the default. The videos just wont play in any other format I have tried a few different ones and I finally downloaded quicktime and they played. My other camera works in windows media player and I can also view them on my Wii but with this camera they don't work on the Wii. Just wondering if its a software thing on the camera and if I can switch it.

On a previous question one of the members of the staff stated "Approved memory cards for the AW-100 are SanDisk, Toshiba, Panasonic and Lexar". According to an Amazon reviewer, the Lexar 128GB SDXC (Class 10) card did not work with the Nikon Coolpix AW100. Is there a limit on the capacity (GB) of the memory cards for the Nikon Coolpix AW-100?

Answer:
I tried the Lexar 128GB SDXC without knowing the reference made on Amazon. I didn't even get a chance to TRY and format it in the camera. A message popped up and said "This card cannot be used." That's unfortunate, but I read a reference in one of the OTHER posted questions here, that card write times slow down as they get full. If that's the case, maybe it's better to go with several smaller cards? Just a thought.

Actually the map detail in camera is pretty limited. Mine doesnt show interstate route numbers. The detail comes from using the METADATA and plotting it on a more comprehensive map like google earth. In theory, as long as you have that data, (which is provided by the GPS sats), then it should work......even in China! :)

Answer:
I have used mine to just track my route using the GPS and after all day, it barely even registers that it used any battery power. If it is only lasting 4 hours without taking photos, that is definetly an issue. If you are taking 200 photos in 4 hours, then thats probably correct. Extra batteries are only $20 at staples. Stock up!

Answer:
You will need 2 hours and 30 minutes in order to have a fully charge battery. Battery Life may vary depending on shooting interval and length of time menus and images displayed, zoom adjusted with each shot, flash fired, and video recording.

Answer:
The COOLPIX AW100 could be underwater for 60 minutes. Do not subject the camera to water pressure by exposing it to running water.

Answer:
This problem means that there is a little moisture inside the camera. When the battery gets warm, the moisture is converted to vapor which then condenses on the cool lense. Try this:
1) Put some rice in a bowl.
2) Cover the rice with a paper towel.
3) Open up all of the openings (battery compartment, memory slot) on the camera and place it on the paper towel.
4) Put the bowel with the rice and the camera into a sealed plastic bag.
5) Let stand for 3 days.

The rice will absorb all of the moisture and the problem should go away. Be very sure that the camera is always completely dry before ever opening up the battery or memory compartment.

Answer:
This is right out of the camera's manual

"Notes on waterproof and dustproof performances
The camera is equivalent to IEC/JIS waterproof grade 8 (IPX8) and IEC/JIS dustproof
grade 6 (IP6X) and enables shooting pictures underwater at a depth of 10 m (33 ft)
for up to 60 minutes.*
This rating does not guarantee the waterproof performance of the camera or that
the camera will be free from damage or trouble under all conditions.
* This rating indicates that the camera has been designed to withstand the specified water pressure
for the specified period of time when the camera is used according to the methods defined by
Nikon."

If you haven't purchased to camera yet, go to the Nikon Info page for the camera and click on the SUPPORT tab then click on the DOWNLOAD MANUAL icon and read the manual to get familiar with what you want to buy. I've done that for every Nikon product I've bought.

Answer:
I would say you have 50/50 chance of not working,
These things should not be wet , period...
All you can do is try after they dry out... use a can of compressed air to dry to blow out excess water and give them some time to be good n dry...
