Smart, fun and easy

The COOLPIX L120 is so smart, it knows when your subject smiles, warns you if someone blinks and gets the red out of grandma's eyes. Blotchy, uneven complexions are also a thing of the past with the COOLPIX L120's Skin Softening feature, which smooths skin tones. And its 17 versatile Scene Modes adjust camera settings to selected scenes, assuring great pictures at school plays, backyard barbecues or athletic events.

Friends and family in motion

One-Touch HD movies and stereo sound

A band concert without sound is incomplete, and a 60-yard touchdown drive without the fleet-footed runs isn't as exciting. That's where the COOLPIX L120's advanced One-Touch HD Movie recording comes in. With the push of a button, you'll instantly be shooting HD (720p) movies with full stereo sound. You can activate the camera's zoom function to capture tight shots and close ups, and when you're ready to share your movies, you can use in-camera playback or the convenient HDMI output for simple hookup to an HDTV or computer.

Compose with confidence

921,000-dot three-inch LCD color display

You'll enjoy composing images from the COOLPIX L120's bright three-inch LCD color display, which features a dazzling 921,000-dot screen that showcases still images and HD movies in rich detail and enhanced contrast. And for easy photo composition, improved picture viewing, and instant sharing, the LCD monitor's wide viewing angle and anti-glare coating lets you capture and view high quality images in virtually any lighting condition.

Capture flawlessly

High quality images every time

Low-light conditions and fast action can defeat some cameras, but not the COOLPIX L120. With high ISO speeds up to 6400, you can be sure that still images and movies will be ideally captured. Plus, you'll get great use of the in-camera editing functions, including D-Lighting for adjusting contrast and fine details often lost when shooting in glaring or intense light. And when you want to take close-up photos, the COOLPIX L120 will zero in as close as 0.4 inches.

The COOLPIX L120's Sport Continuous Shooting mode takes photos continuously and in quick succession to capture fast moving objects.

I am a 78 year old male. I have had a camera most of my adult life. This coolpix L120 is the very best yet. I have only had it for a little less than two weeks. I have taken some really wonderful pictures and it is still set on the setting that it was shipped with from the factory. The resolution and light setting are perfect no matter if I am in bright sun light or in the shadows. I am extremely happy with this great camera. July 14, 2011
Lovin Life with my Coolpix Got this as a surprise birthday gift, and have been having fun taking pics, movies all day. From upclose shots of flowers, to family, to nite pics. Didn't take any time to figure how to use it, and it is lightweight and very sharp, clear pics. This is one of the best cameras I have had of the digitals. July 9, 2011
Best Camera i've EVER HAD!! Wow!! I am used to Canon... But I was shopping at Best Buy and I saw it on display and WOW!! Good Zoom, quality, price and features.. So i wound up buying it and it ROCKS!! I haven't been to the races or any car shows YET... That's when and where I will find out how EXCELLENT it really is... I would Always recommend Nikon to my friends and family. July 8, 2011
Fantastic camera, worth every dollar I couldn't decide between this and the P500, but I am so glad I chose the L120 (I chose it because the price was lower). I've used my camera to take pictures at concerts, to take pictures of my workplace for the office website and for my friends' soccer games. It is perfect for what I need out of a camera. I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a step up from a point and shoot. July 8, 2011
Easy to use, multiple features, wonderful results. I was looking for a sophisticated but easy to access camera, After researching hundreds of products, I decided to give the L120 a try. Even difficult shots like fast action, night landscapes and fireworks are easily accomplished. The zoom is better than most cameras of this type. It is not a point and shoot device, but it does not require a degree in engineering either. For an interested amateur, it offers lots of opportunity at a very affordable price. July 5, 2011
This Camera has it all I received my camera as a gift from my husband. He knows how much I love taking pictures. The 21 Zoom is great for any photos you want to get a close up of. My nature pics are fantastic. I reccomend this camera to a beginner or an experienced photographer. July 5, 2011
Best camera I have had so far and I am 60 Over the years I have owned over 35 slr camera's and by far this one has been the best and the easiest to use. The lens that's on this camera is wonderful for this kind of price. And the selectable options you can use makes this camera the best choice for the beginners as well as for the old pro's like me. July 4, 2011
An excellent camera for all-around purposes. The one short-coming for the L120 is the lack of a printed manual. The only available manual is on CD and cannot use it when in the field. So far has taken excellent pictures in all the modes I have tried including flash. Have not yet tried the video. Still have 2 Nikon SLR film cameras. July 4, 2011
This is a great camera! I've had this camera for only about 1 week and it is the best decision I've ever made! The sports mode is fabulous and the close up is the best ever. I'm a young photographer, and I haven't had a lot of experience with cameras, but this one is great! I recently brought my camera to a community park, and caught some amazing pictures! One thing I don't like about this camera, (But what's not to love?) is that it doesn't work good in low light. Sometimes the flash drowns out pictures, but other then that it's a great camera for a great price! The features are great, and I think i'll be keeping it for a long time. The cover is nice and sturdy, and easy to open. The grip is amazing, and I hope whomever reads this is going to buy it. Mine's red, by the way. June 30, 2011
Well worth it! This is my first Nikon and I've had my L120 for about a week now - I love it! During the daylight hours, the pictures are just incredible, even at full optical zoom! I took my new camera to a MLB game this past weekend and I captured some amazing shots. I also went to my local speedway and took some pictures there as well. This camera is fast between shots, even with the flash on. The colors are bright and crisp and the detail is awesome. The zoom is just fantastic. You could literally see the faces of the guys playing in the outfield. I love the sports continuous mode. Even though the pictures taken are only 3 megapixels, they still come out looking great. It works wonders when I'm trying capture cars going about 100 mph. The only downside is that this camera does not do so well in low-light situations but that's where the flash comes in handy. The flash is kind of bright but it doesn't wash out the faces of the people you're trying to take a picture of. The battery life is pretty good as well. The alkaline batteries that came with it lasted for about 600 pictures before I had to change them and the rechargeable ones I bought with it held out for almost 500 pictures. I attached a few pictures but they look much better when they're at full size. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone looking for a good megazoom that has a decent battery life and clear pictures. June 27, 2011
Must Read Well I got mine at Colonail Photo and Hobby in Orlando. The reqasonbeing is none of the other stores had the experience sales staff totell me about the different cameras. I was so thankful for the reviews on here I had walked out with the Nikon 8100 but about an hour later returnedit for this one. I never tookit out of the box. The only reason I was unsure ofthis camera is the AA requirements, I was not sure I wanted to goback through that again. As I had a Fuji that did that with the AA. But I am so glad I did. The camera is awesome indeed love the features as well. I got the bronze color as well. June 24, 2011
A great camera. In the upper segment of the point-and-shoot this camera is probably tops, certainly high up. What differentiate it from the competitors are the incredible 21X zoom and the logical and very convenient choice of controls. On the negative side I would mention the difficulty of controlling the magnification at the lower end. June 23, 2011
Nice camera with a great price The camera does everything I wanted it to do then some. Takes great pictures. The only thing that would make this perfect would be a rechargable battery pack like other cameras have. Excellent zoom. June 20, 2011
Camera has plenty of zoom!! I finally have a camera that will take pics of my granddaughter on stage with me sitting in the audience!!!! I love the fact that this Nikon is very easy to operate and understand since I am only 73 years young!!! Just love it! June 16, 2011
This COOLPIX L120 is amazing!!!!!!! this camera has perfect zoom and is the perfect size. this is a great camera to help you capture the amazing moments that will last a life time! June 15, 2011
Great camera for the features, and price. What an excellent product. Ready to go right out of the box. Easy to use, but has great features for the more advanced shooter. Highly recommend this camera. Thanks Nikon! June 13, 2011
great I really like the telephoto and the vibration damper. Lets you take real telephoto pictures without the blur. My only wish would be that it would include the ac adapter so it would save the batteries when downloading pictures or just playing around with it while trying to learn about all the stuff it will do. :-) June 13, 2011
Excellent if you want this size. When I got it I decided it was too big so I bought another one (cost more) which will fit in my purse and I'm giving this one to either my son or daughter. June 13, 2011
tip I've worked with many cameras but this camera is by far the easiest and one of the best I've worked with.Make sure you put the movie options to HD 720p for best results. June 12, 2011
My First Nikon and I love it. I love this camera. Very easy to use. If you have issues with it I would suggest reading the manual. It helps a lot. I had issues at first. They were blurry, but I got the hang of it after a while. Still learning. I like the price and the features. (especially the black and white photos!) The video quality is not bad. I don't like using the flash too much as I think the better quality photos come out during the day. I have only owned Kodak cameras all of my life and I have definitely found a new and better favorite. You can hook up the camera to the tv and view videos you've recorded on the camera, or view a slide show. To take higher ISO pictures you would have to reduce your camera setting to 3 megapixel. The only con is that I don't use Nikon rechargeable batteries. My camera dies without notice. It shows full battery then it says "battery exhausted" then it shuts off. So I keep extras just incase. I'm not too excited about the night shots but they are not horrible. I guess I need more practice. June 11, 2011
Excellent quality pictures. This camera is simply amazing! I would recomend reading the manual and playing around with the options a bit before really using it. The "mode" that comes on when you first use the camera is not the mode I would recomend using for everyday shots. I zoomed all the way in to my daughter playing in the pool and the picture was so crisp that you can see water droplets on her forhead. Works extremely well in low or bad indoor lighting as well. I returned a FujiFilm Finepix I had bought similar to this, and there is no comparision, this camera is FAR better, and produces FAR better pictures. June 9, 2011
Love this camera Received this as a Mother's Day gift. BEST GIFT EVER. Takes AWESOME pictures and VERY easy to use. My dog is not happy that I got it. :^) June 6, 2011
Wow! I think I found my camera! even tough its not considered as DSLR.....I rather use this coolpix because its much more easier to use. (I'm just an amateur) :D so for those amateur photographers go go go!: D June 2, 2011
Great little camera I haven't had it long but from what I've used it I LOVE it - very simple to use - great pictures - love the zoom. Can't wait to use it more ! June 2, 2011
Great Photos I love my new L120!!! It is way better than my older camera!! I love photography and the L120 is affordable but still takes awesome photos and it also is a great camera to start with! I hope to one day get a better camera but the L120 is a great beginners camera! June 1, 2011
Love love love it!!!! Love love love it!!!! Easy and fun to use. Takes amazingly crisp pictures. Has an amazing zoom for sport action shots. Only down fall is it only lasts as long as it's battery source. Used it (a lot) and played with it's settings from 9am to 5 pm and took over 200 photos and videos , and did playbacks before it died. my only comment is buy this camera and some rechargeable batteries.  May 30, 2011
Excellent camera for the price. I have a Nikon D100 and several expensive Nikor lenses. This little camera actually takes better "snapshots" than the D100. May 25, 2011
I found the picture to be very sharp and clear. The light is adjusted automatically for a good picture. The 21x zoom is amazing...it brings wildlife up close for hard to get shots. When I use the maximum zoom, it is so sensitive that a tripod would be best to use to control movement. May 25, 2011
Great camera , low price Haven't used all features yet - probably never will. Wanted long zoom - this one has 21X optical. The most outstanding thing I've seen yet about this camera is the image stabilization. I've taken pics all the way out to 21X using only the neck strap as a manual "stabilizer". When you press the focus/"shutter release", the pic locks in rock steady. I have pics taken all the way to approximately half way into the digital zoom (equivalent of probably 45X) and pics are very clear, all without a tripod! May never need a tripod with this camera! Fantastic, Nikon! May 24, 2011
Great for the Artist/Family needing a good camera For the price, this is the best compromise between an easy to use digital camera for family pictures, and a good Digital SLR for better photography of reference material for artwork. As an amateur artist, I intend to use the CoolPix L120 to take pictures of items I intend to draw, paint and sculpt. I don't always need the features of an SLR type camera (nor can I afford those right now either), but I certainly can use many of the more advanced features this camera has over my older camera. The resolution of 14 Mega Pixels makes for great detail in a fairly reasonably priced package for this purpose. For my main use, however, I just keep the picture size down to about 5 Mega Pixels, and its so easy to do. This allows my wife and I to take more pictures of our children and family here in Alaska to send to relatives! Being able to easily navigate the menus and switch between the two makes for a great experience! The use of standard AA batteries is an added bonus, as we don't always have an outlet handy to recharge a camera, but almost certainly can find AA batteries to use. May 24, 2011

What class of memory card is recommended to take full advantage of the camera. Class 4,6,or 10?
I would imagine that a lower class will work but will take more time between shots. what is recommended for this camera?

Answer:
Someone said he recorded 30 min of video with his 4 Gb sd card, and with more space on the card could record more.
That is not true, the limit is 30 min for each video, even if you have a 32 Gb sd card, you can not record a video larger than 29 min 59 seconds.

Thanks for the replies. After I posted I did find the answer. a Class6 is the minimum required for recording uninterrupted high quality video settings. if you run a lower class card there is a risk of the video stopping when the card can no longer keep up.

I just got the 4GB card for this camera. It holds about 1500 pictures and 29 minutes of video. If you want more video than just 29 minutes, than you should probably use a 6 or 10 GB card.

Answer:
There are a wide variety of tripods in a wide price range. The camera has an industry standard 1/4" female threaded receiver. Any tripod with a standard 1/4" bolt for mounting a camera will work. The individual characteristics of the tripod are user choice based on application. You may wish to consult a local camera store to determine the tripod features most suitable for your application.

I don't want to let people zoom in further than what the optical zoom will allow.

Answer:
Actually you can, but not in the way you are thinking of. Night portrait mode and portrait mode and some others don't allow digital zoom.

Answer:
According to the manual you can NOT turn off the digital zoom as you can in other Nikon models. We like to turn it off because we find that people do not pay attention to the digital zoom indicator.

I am looking at buying this product and need to know if there a wired, wireless or IR remote shutter release available for this? Does the A/V output only work in playback mode or can it be used while shooting?

No, this camera doesn’t have that feature in order to use a Remote shutter release wired or wireless. A/V output only works in playback.

Answer:
I suggest that you buy the Coolpix L120. Great photos and superb HD movies begin with Nikon’s high power 21x wide-angle optical Zoom-NIKKOR glass lens. This powerful zoom lens, with a 25-525mm range equivalent, closes the distance between you and your subjects. Capture your son firing off the game-winning lacrosse shot or your daughter’s first ride on a two wheeler. Whether it’s a panoramic shot of the entire family on a favorite sledding hill, or a photo of your children playing in the backyard, you’ll shoot effortlessly and accurately with the COOLPIX L120.

If you’re new to photography, no worries, this camera has intelligent features to help you out. Five-way VR Image Stabilization uses sensor shift to minimize the effects of camera shake, virtually eliminating blurred images. Trick-or-treating with the kids? The COOLPIX L120 has a high ISO speed up to 6400 to capture fast moving or low-light scenarios.
Behind every great photo and HD movie is the COOLPIX L120, a camera brimming with technological advances. Smile Timer detects when a subject smiles and automatically takes the photo. Blink Warning identifies when a subject may have blinked and signals you to retake the shot. Face-Priority AF is an innovative face-identifying technology that detects and focuses up to 12 faces automatically.

Red-eye will no longer ruin family photos. In-camera Red-Eye Fix automatically fixes the problem before it occurs. Blotchy, uneven complexions are also a thing of the past with COOLPIX L120’s Skin Softening, which smoothes skin tones. This versatile camera also has 17 Scene Modes that adjust camera settings to selected scenes, assuring great pictures at school plays, backyard barbecues, or athletic events.
