AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III 4.2 5 13 13
Just a wonderful addition to my camera bag I shot the foto, below, of the moon mid day, useing my Nikon D800 and my Nikon 70-200 VR 2.8 Series 1 lens, and useing the AF_STC20E 111 Tele Converter, the results truly are stellar....... April 23, 2014
BUY IT ! Purchased a refurbished sample from my favorite store in NYC. Excellent teleconverter for 70-200 f/2.8 G lens, at least when paired with my D3s. Extremely sharp and fast focusing. I have even gotten good results in the 1.2x format (480 mm) and DX setting (600 mm) hand held but typically use with a monopod or tripod for best results. March 28, 2013
When length and close focusing matter most I use this occasionally on my 300/4 AF-S and 105/2.8 VR macro (on D7000). While AF can work in good light, I usually manually focus. The fact that the minimum focus distance doesn't change results in 2X life size with the 105 and 0.5X with the 300 (at 600mm it's my longest "macro" lens). I have used both combinations wide open, and had acceptable results, but a stop or two helps with IQ. If you need reach and can't afford the 600/4, this gets you there. If you want more than 1:1 with your 105VR (and a 210mm focal length) this gets you there. If you want a 600mm 0.5X macro lens, this gets you there. If those are places you want to go, get the TC. December 17, 2011
Sharp and clear! I love this teleconverter! I use it with my 70-200 2.8 VRII lens which gives me the equivalent of a 600mm lens on my Nikon D300s. Tack sharp! Buy it. You won't be disappointed. I shot the hawk with this set-up. Look at the detail. Unbelievable! September 3, 2011
Excellent teleconverter! This is an incredible addition to the lens arsenal. The bokeh, for me, is just plain smashing than can range from creamy to abstract. A good solid tripod and shutter release cable are my only recommendations to produce superb images! Well worth the money!! May 12, 2011

Why does the auto focus not work with this teleconverter and the 600mm f4?

I am saving to buy a new 600mm f4 to use on my D700 and it appears that I will not be able to use this teleconverter with this lens and have the auto focus work. It works with my 70-200 f2.8 so why not with the 600mm? Also, will I be able to use the camera's auto focus sensor to manualy focus this lens or will it also not work?

Answer:
D700 will not autofocus on lenses with a maximum aperture of greater than 5.6. The f4 becomes f 8 with the TC attached. Your 70-200 f2.8 becomes f5.6 with TC attached, that's why it will autofocus. You can use the 1.4 TC on the 600 f/4 as it becomes a f5.6 and will autofocus.

I have a 600mm/4 and 200-400 vr II. d-800 and d7100 (all on tripod), will this converter work with these riggs/ for auto focus or will it be man. focus. Photo. Big horn sheep, Goats big bears and eagles, all very far off, when I locate them. Using the d-7100/600mm and tc-20 what will the focal lenth be. Some "SAY" it is very sharp, others indicate very poor. Reason for the big wide difference? More important, will it work with my rig for my nature pic. in the far North of Can. near the Artic. I can find the animals but most of the time I can only get to with-in 1/4 miles some times 1 mile

Answer:
Both lenses will autfocus on both cameras as the D800 and D7100 are both f/8 autfocus capable. The effective field of view with 1.5 crop factor would be 600x2x1.5=1800. The IQ would depend on lighting, movement of subject etc. There will be a loss of IQ but you could subscribe to the adage what is better no shot or a slightly degraded shot.
The 1000mm could be stretched to 2340 if you engage the additional 1.3 crop available in the D7100. I wonder what the image would look like?

I didn't anticipate to buy a teleconverter when I purchased my D3100 with a AF-S DX 55-300mm lens.

Now that 300mm doesn't seem to be fitting my expectation, I am trying to get a better zoom with a teleconverter. So, there is definitely no compatible teleconverter for my D3100 with a AF-S DX 55-300mm lens?

Answer:
I use both the 1.4 and 1.7 on a 200-400 and for the most part the 1.4 stays on there. The 1.7 does work well but can be a bit of a fiddle getting sharp images although saying that it still does a very good job. Have been deliberating whether to get rid of the 1.7 and try a TC-20E III. Might be worth renting a couple first to see how you get on with them.

The third party that I bought this from mentioned the following

"noise you hear inside the unit would be that of the aperture linkage, which must remain loose.
Its function is to connect the mechanical operation of the camera's control over the lens' aperture during exposure."

Is this accurate ?

Thanks in advance.

Yes it can be used but it is dependent on the lens, for lenses to work you would need something like the 70-200, 200-400, 400, 500 and 600mm, though there are a few other that can be used.
