Love it for indoor basketball Purchased this lens because it's a great prime lens / focal length for general purpose use and specifically to improve results for indoor basketball under challenging / artificial lighting conditions. Score! Other lenses have come and gone but this one stays in the bag. 50mm / FX is "right" for a lot of situations -- so everyone should have at least one -- and this is a fundamentally very good performer for the price point -- stills and video... Nikon covered the bases nicely here. The photos are beautiful. Build quality is A OK in my book. If you need a Nikon 50mm for FX you won't be disappointed with this one. Spending 3x as much will not produce better results for 99% of us. Improve your technique instead and pocket the money. Camera bodies will come and go. Glass holds value. This particular lens will always have a place in the bag. October 4, 2014
Nice for nighttime street photography I have found this lens to be the perfect companion for nighttime portraits of street people in Las Vegas. I use it with a D7100 and it gives me the perfect reach for finding subjects in the crowds of Fremont Street. This is the perfect FX lens to use on a DX body. It is clean, fast, and sure. If you have a DX it makes perfect sense to add this one to your collection. Now go have fun finding your subjects. June 9, 2014
Super lens I just got it, and with the f stop breadth It has boosted my creative ability. As a food wine and travel writer this lens will be my go to piece. A great value ! April 4, 2014
A brilliant, tack-sharp, butter-smooth bokeh, low-light speed demon. Bought the 35mm 1.8G DX along with my D7100, and it never leaves my bag. The 50mm 1.4G is now my go to choice when I'm chasing my toddlers around my house, running and gunning. The "keeper" rate is off the charts and I'm nailing focus 80% of the time, even with my fast-moving "targets." Sharpness, color and contrast is amazing wide-open, and has really elevated my photography to the next level, if you'll excuse the cliche. I'll probably go "full-frame" in the future, and I'm glad thus little gem will be able to make the move with me. On a side note, remember that only FX-compatible lenses will make the transition with you if you upgrade to a full frame body later. Good glass is key to producing good images, so invest wisely. March 17, 2014
Great all purpose lense This is my first FX lens. After dropping $3K on the D800E, I wanted a good portrait lens at a reasonable price. The 50mm f/1.4G has certainly exceeded my expectations for a lens in the $500 range. Auto-focus is spot on , photos are sharp and crisp, great colors and very good bokeh. At 1.4, I can take low light shots without a flash. I am very glad that I chose the 50 1.4G as my first FX lens. I highly recommend!!! Every Nikon owner should have one in their camera bag. I suggest you to go to different galleries and check what and when ppl use for different situations. 50mm on D7000 (DX) is the same as 75mm on FX (full frame). That makes it practically great portrait lens.

Answer:
Pretty much all Nikkor lenses will work on the D7000 as it has a internal focus motor. Quality wise, I would definitely say the 50mm 1.4G is better than the 35mm 1.8G DX. Also you should consider the 50mm 1.8G instead of the 1.4G. as it is cheaper and in most ways just as good.

Answer:
It will work on a D5100. However since the D5100 is a crop sensor camera, it gives angles of view similar to what a 75mm lens gives when used on an FX or 35mm camera.

Answer:
Yes, the D5100 will work with the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G.

In fact, any lens that has AF-S in its name will work on the D5100.

AF-S means that the lens has the Silent Wave focusing motor built-in. The D5100 does not have a built-in focusing motor, so it requires that you use AF-S lenses.

What do the numbers Mfr: 2180 mean for Nikkor lens 50mmf/1.4G?

I bought these Nikkor lens in Best Buy, model number is 543287. Is that the right lens and model number for this product? Does this lens have more model numbers? If so, is there a difference between the model numbers in quality and price?

Hi, I would like to know if this AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G works with the Nikon D3000 camera series.
I have this camera since 2 years ago and works great with the original 18-55 lense and with a 55-300 I recently bought. Now I would like to buy this 50mm to use sometimes but I am not sure if it works OK with the Nikon D3000 and with the newest Nikon series.
Thanks a lot for any advice.

The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Lens is fully compatible with the D3000.

However, the picture that you attached is of an AF NIKKOR f/1.4D Lens which will not autofocus on the D3000 but which is otherwise compatible.

Can you please tell me when can I expect the shipment of the Nikon AF-S 50mm Nikkor F/1.4G Lens? I want to purchase this lens and it is backordered every where without an estimated shipment date.

Thanks!

Answer:
If you have an urgent need I'd strongly suggest ordering one now from an authorized dealer so that you will be on their list as they receive shipments from us. We don't have a specific date.
