Convenient telephoto coverage with Vibration Reduction (VR)

The Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED is an ideal telephoto zoom lens for those seeking a lightweight all-in-one lens or a companion lens for the 18-55mm kit lens that came with their camera. Vibration Reduction (VR) significantly reduces camera shake throughout the entire focal length, making sharp telephoto shots substantially easier to achieve. An ideal lens for sports, people and school events, this lens provides clear images with less blur.

Its pretty good but watch out at full zoom I purchase this lens when I purchased my camera about 10 months ago. The lens works fine unless you are at full zoom then things get a little sloppy. I would recommend a tripod with the VR function turned off if you are going to shoot at full zoom. Otherwise this lens works great. September 25, 2014
A Wonderful Complementary Lens When I purchased my new D3300 camera with 18-55mm VR II kit lens, the photo opportunities were immediately rewarding. However, in some situations I desired more than the available 55mm maximum focal length of the kit lens. The Nikon 55-200 VR lens has become a perfect complement. It matches my "normal" zoom lens in both image quality and ease of use, yet gives up to 3.5 times more reach. It is compact enough to fit in the same carrying case with the D3300 body and the original zoom lens, without the bulk and weight of older lenses owned in the past. I highly recommend it! September 2, 2014
pena a regulação do zoon ser na ponta das objetivas É pena A abertura da Lente ser feita na ponta da Lente , acho ridiculo e desmotiva a compra, pq não fizeram como a antiga 28-70 na regulação do zoom ? May 27, 2014
A Great Lens for the Price This lens is the one that's on my camera 80% of the time. The main reason is that it performs great, is very clear and the Auto Focus and VR options perform above what one would expect from a $250 lens. The second reason is that I frequently bang my camera into stuff. So if I damage a lens, better it be a $250 lens than a $1000 lens. May 12, 2014
Great value I purchased this lens to be a companion to my 18-55 and I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the glass and the function of the lens. I highly recommend this lens to the beginner or seasoned veteran! April 29, 2014

I have a D90 and looking for a lens to shoot indoor sports events. What is the best range to stay in to produce the best image quality? For example, if I want to capture someone shooting a free throw would I have to be 1 foot from the baseline to capture a good image with good quality and details? Also, will lighing be an issue?

look at the f stop (4.5-6)..
i'd think this would disapoint for what you are looking for.. you need to go faster which of course carries a price.. you need tomaximise the light the sensor can see and indoor events such as football etc often have sodium lighting which can make matters worse.

I am thinking very hard on getting the Nikkor 55-200mm len but I'm wondering if it can bring image real close and at good quality. I am using the normal lens which is the Nikkor 18-55mm len and I was taking photos at a cricket match with it and I have an example of photo of it. I'm wondering if the Nikkor 55-200mm lens can bring the image closer.

Answer:
It will get you in closer than the 18-55 but depends on how close you want to get, saying that the 70-300 will get you in closer still.

Answer:
Remove the filter from the lens or make sure you are using a multi coated lens. You are getting a reflection from the back side of the filter.

Answer:
Yes, this lens will work with your D200 just fine. In fact your D200 will work with all Nikon Auto Focus lenses. The D200 also works with older AI manual focus lenses with some limitations. The 55-200 will work fine with kids at outdoor events where the lighting is bright and the kids are some distance away. Indoors, the lens / camera combination may not be fast enough to stop motion, (depending on your application) 55mm on a DX body is into the short telephoto range, so for indoor birthday parties you may not be able to get far enough away to capture the image you want.
