Great for APS sensor Great for APS sensor gives 15mm equivalent. Works in small interior spaces. May 12, 2011
Stunning view and angle I've been shooting with a 35 mm for years and with this lens it 's a new approach how to re-frame my shoots. This wide angle offer a spectacular view and the clarity of the pictures are astounding. For some cases I had to move closer from subject to make the shoot.I am not disappointed with this product you will love it. April 22, 2011
Great addition to any gear bag This lens fills the gap for taking group shots and landscape photography. April 16, 2011
An amazing lens Incredible sharpness, from shooting orchids to Delorme's 41 foot diameter Eartha, the world's largest revolving and rotating globe, this wide angle zoom handles it all with crisp clarity. April 15, 2011
If you want to go WIDE, this is it. I thought this lens would be of limited use, but I've been wanting a lens with this coverage for years, and its turning out to be quite useful, fun lens. My 10-24 was front focusing on my Nikon D7000, but this problem was easily corrected using the camera's menu system. For best results, I recommend stopping this lens down to at least f/8. April 14, 2011
A must-have complement for your DX Nikon setup. I've been very satisfied with the quality of photos I'm getting with the 10-24mm. Yes, there is distortion at the wide end, some of which can be rectified in pp, but it also can add a nice effect without the extreme results of a fisheye lens. Closeups are surprisingly good quality, with a very smooth bokeh if desired. The minimum aperture of f/29 provides great dof for creative landscapes. The AF is smooth, fast, and quiet. Your popup flash is practically unuseable with this lens, due to shadowing by the lens itself, but the SB900 works fine in the hotshoe, and of course off-camera. It is a crisp, clean, sharp lens that I'll use frequently for adding flair to otherwise normal shots. April 14, 2011
The perfect lens for the wide angle range I do a lot of abstract photography and this lens has met my needs on every level. I would say that many of my "keepers" were taken with this lens. It is always in my camera bag. April 14, 2011
Sharp & Super-Wide! Getting a satisfying wide-angle perspective with the crop sensor on my Nikon D5000 was always a challenge with the 18-55mm kit lens. Due to the 1.5x crop factor, the 18-55mm can only achieve the results of a 27mm lens (in terms of 35mm equivalence). While the kit lens is respectable for its price point and versatility, that field-of-view it offers on the wider end of the spectrum is just too narrow in many circumstances! When I'm out on the trails, I need a lens that can swallow up expansive landscapes despite the crop-sensor handicap of my D5000. The Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED was precisely the solution to my wide-angle dilemma. At 10mm on my DX-format D5000 body, this lens achieves a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 15mm... now THAT's the wide-angle perspective I'd been craving! Now I can take produce those wide-angle shots that I'd been envisioning for so long, but which the 18-55m simply couldn't conjure. Generally, such wide lenses tend to suffer from inherent optical flaws, but the Nikkor 10-24mm tames these problems as best as possible. Softness at the frame edges is minimized and overall, across-the-frame sharpness on this lens is more than respectable. For some, the variable aperture may seem to be a turn-off. But in practice, I can say that losing only 1-stop across the entire zoom range is relatively insignificant in most shooting situations.... especially considering that I'm usually stopped down to f/8 or f/11 anyway. I'm not generally one to fret over build quality, which is to say that I don't lose my mind if a lens ins't made of some space-age, indestructible material. In my experience, such things represent an unnecessary level of over-engineering for most photographers. After all, I haven't even managed to break to the kit lenses... and the 10-24mm certainly feels more sturdy than those! The auto-focusing is fast and reliable and the effortless manual-override is a nice touch, as well. Another quality of this lens which I enjoy is the fact that it overlaps the zoom range of my 18-55mm kit lens. This is great for two reasons. First off, between my 10-24mm and my 18-55mm, I know that I'm covered on ALL focal lengths between 10mm and 55mm. Second, the 10-24mm provides the super-wide angle I need, without forcing me to switch lenses if circumstances ocasionally call for a narrower scope around 18-24mm range. Overall, this a great lens and I couldn't be happier with it. The Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is a valued addition to my gear that I've always got in my bag whenever I hit the trails. April 14, 2011
Real Estate Agent - Home Interior Photos are important in our business and limited time to take photos. This wide wide angle lens gives better view of the home, without the fisheye effect - Using basic D40 with 10mm lens & SB900 with fantastic results - April 14, 2011
wide angle zoom great sharp lens. not much else to say. if you're looking for a wide angle zoom, this is perfect, especially for a dx slr camera with the crop factor. everything stays sharp and colors are great. does what it's supposed to and it does it well. April 14, 2011
Great in the day...but at night its another story. I have been using this lens for several months, and it is a great lens for the price, and produces just some awesome colour reproduction during the day within minimal edge distortion. For those who experiment a lot with night time long exposure photography, there are some focusing issues at night. I have tried all sorts of settings and exposures and as soon as the sun goes down you need to change to another lens. November 22, 2010
W I D E I've been nothing but happy with this lens. 10mm gives you a lot of room to capture sweeping landscapes and some really neat closeups. I hike a lot and this and my 18-200 let me get some great shots. November 20, 2010
Good, solid all around lens. I am loving it so far. Only had it a short time, but already took it on a trip with me and was able to use it for lots of wide angle and decent zoom shots as well. The nice part of the ED is that I can crop and bring a photo in closer in my post work and it doesn't fall apart as fast as some of my older lenses' pics will. They stay sharper and crisper for more "in close" detail enlargements, etc. Overall, it is a great "all-around" lens and I hope to learn more and more ways to use it and I cannot imagine that it won't be an "always with me" piece of equipment! September 23, 2010
Small lens with a BIG PUNCH! WOW! OH WOW!!! This lens just compliments my D5000. It takes great photos and breathtaking colors. I was amazed at the quality but should we expect any less - it's NIKON baby! September 21, 2010
This lens has eveything I was looking for. I have been a Nikon product user for many years. Recently I purchased 10-24 mm Nikkor lens. I have taken about a dozen or so test photos and was deeply impressed by the results. September 4, 2010
Excellent wide angle DX Lens This excellent could be listed as a semi fisheye but isn't. Is an excellent slow lens with super wide angle capabilities for both distance landscape as well as fairly close up work all with minimal distortion. In these kinds of lenses you will of course see some curvature in the targer objects but are minimal considering the wide angle being used. As with most lenses that have a lens shade the hood or shade will have to be removed for the built in flash or even the external flash to cover the target image well but this is a small chore. I find this lens great for shots in a room where all subjects are captured, the zoom can be used to better frame any particular subject. Is not a fast lens but quite reasonable for the price. Lens is quiet and does not creep. For me is an absolute to have this lens in my basic kit well worth the pricy investement. September 1, 2010
Highly recommended I have always enjoyed using wide angle lenses, and this one does not disappoint. Extremely sharp, lightweight, and crisp zooming. Fun to use, and a great creative tool. I recently used it in the tight confines of the air museum in Kalamzaoo, Michigan, and it performed brilliantly. This lens goes with me everywhere, and gets more use than any of my other Nikkors. August 29, 2010
Great Addition This lens compliments any Photographers equipment bag. Creates amazing perspectives of outdoor landscapes, and invaluable for the close and tight indoor shots. August 26, 2010
Excellent Lens Bought this lens for some travel photography in Hawaii and was not disappointed. The lens was very sharp even at the edges. Silent focus and performed well throughtout the zoom range. August 22, 2010
Twice the area of an 18mm and sharp straight lines Bought this lens after quite a bit of comparison for use on building interiors. I shoot for a local realtor and do a lot with interior panoramas. Tired of straightening barrel distortion on every shot from my 18-200mm, I decided to give the 10-24mm a try. Like a breath of fresh air. I have cut the number of panos I have to almost in half, and the results are sharp and lines are straight. Love it! August 8, 2010
nice lens! I was impressed with the performance of this lens. The sharpness even held up in very low indoor lighting of the space center. Nature shots had very good clarity. I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a DX wide angle zoom. August 4, 2010
This lens is a must. This lens is great for landscapes, architecture and close-ups. The wide angle allows you to get close up to large objects, and still get the entire object, creating very dramatic views August 2, 2010
Love this lens I use this lens with my D90 and love it. Images are sharp and look great. It's a bit pricey, but worth the money. At 10mm it does bend objects on the edge as a wide angle will do. I see no problems with image quality on the edges as has been noted in some other reviews I have seen. I use this lens for both day and night/moonlight/light painting and it works well. It is my favorite lens in my bag. Do yourself a favor and buy the Nikon colorless filter at the same time to protect the lens. I'm already glad that I did! August 2, 2010
The only ultra-wide for IR photography A great lens for general purpose, the 10-24mm is also the best for shooting with infrared-converted DSLR bodies. I've tried all the competitors in this class and it's the only one that gives both sharp results and even illumination across the sensor, without the notorious IR "hotspot" in the middle. If you're a DX infrared shooter, this and 10.5mm are your only options for ultra-wide photos. August 1, 2010
This one is always with me. This lens stays on the camera more than any lens I have. The perfect focal range, up close in your face lens at 10mm, yet you can reach out a little if you need. If that does not do it for you, you are not close enough! I shoot most everything at or near 10mm. Wish it were faster but you will need to give up the zoom to get faster. Great lens! July 31, 2010
Amazing lens I am very impressed with the performance of this lens. The detail and clarity are amazing. I do a lot if hiking and in the past I would only take my 18-200 VR but now I have to take this one as well. There is just no substitute for for that extra 8mm. The first day I had it out I shot some pictures of my buddies new boat and did not have a polarizer for it and was extremely impressed with the results. It also works really well indoors or shooting large groups of people. The only feature I wish it had is VR (I guess because I am really spoiled by this on my go to lens). This of course would change the price point. In conclusion I would highly recommend this lens to anyone who is looking for a wide angle zoom. July 31, 2010
Just what I was looking for I wanted something wider than my kit lens and this lens is perfect for me with very little distortion at the wide end. It's sharp and fast to focus. July 30, 2010
Very sharp and well made As a DX shooter, I've tried several different third-party wide zoom lenses but was never satisfied with corner sharpness. This lens is a winner - particularly after three intense weeks of shooting in the surf, mountains and rainforests of Costa Rica. Very durable. Very good corner sharpness when stopped down to f8 (which I'd do anyway for depth of field) and the extra 2mm (beyond the 12-24) really helps. This lens will be in my daily kit for a long time. July 30, 2010
wide wow I was using the Tok***12-24 on my D300, with good results. However, I like to stay Nikon so when this 10-24 was available, I took a chance. What a great decision. This lens is sharper through the entire range, and the extra 2mm on the wide end DOES make a big difference. My D300 was sitting after I bought the D700, but the 10-24 has got the DX cam out again. I recommend highly.... July 30, 2010
Lots Of Love For This Lens I bought this lens when it first came out. I love the artistic freedom the super wide angle gives. It's fast, accurate, great size. Since this lens paid for itself with the images I have sold from it, I consider it a good value. I will agree that there's independent lens manufacturers that make nice ultra wide zooms, but nothing works as good on a nikon than a nikkor. Focusing is really fast and accurate. No nonsense. We have a D5100 and D7000 camera - is the AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED suitable for both. My reading of the documentation is that it is compatible but Vibration Reduction is not available on the lens - is this correct.

Answer:
10-24 is very fun when you take a portrait photo, but not good. 28-300 is all around lens not the best don't hope so much, prime is better if you want really good portrait picture. Try 50 or 85mm lens.

Award Winner

Nikon's Wide-Angle Zoom Lens - Editor's Choice Award

December 2009, AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm Editors' Choice Award  - The editorial staff at Digital Photo hailed the AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED lens as an Editors' Choice in the December 2009 issue.  Praising the ultra-wide field of view and impeccable image quality, the editors nominated the 10-24mm for the distinction based on its versatility, noting that there is "a lot to like about the lens."  In addition, the staff enjoyed the incorporation of Nikon's Silent Wave Motor for quick, quiet autofocus; internal focusing and non-rotating front element, allowing for a variety of polarizers and filters to be used.
