Advanced Nikon lens technologies

The AF-S DX NIKKOR 10–24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is an advanced lens optimized for DX-format Nikon D-SLR cameras. From its ultra-fast, ultra-quiet Silent Wave Motor (SWM) autofocus motor to its ghosting and flare reducing Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC), the AF-S DX NIKKOR 10–24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED helps your D-SLR achieve peak performance in both still and HD video shooting.
Silent Wave Motor
Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM), which represents a significant advance in AF lens technology. SWM uses ultrasonic vibrations—rather than a gear system—to focus the lens, providing incredibly smooth, silent and precise autofocus operation.
ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
AS
AS
AS stands for Aspherical lens elements. This type of lens utilizes non-spherical surfaces on either one or both sides of the glass in order to eliminate certain types of lens aberration.

Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder.
IF Lens
IF Lens
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.

Well worth every dollar! This lens is awesome, the difference between my 18-105mm and this is huge. I love this lens, its perfect for real estate and landscapes. Just buy it. August 24, 2014
Wider than expected What an awesome lens. The difference between 18mm on my existing lenses to 10mm on this one is dramatic. Exciting possibilities. Expensive, but worth the investment. Can't wait to take this on my next trip. July 22, 2014
10-24 Nikkor AF-S DX for D7100 The clarity of this lens is fantastic. The feel is right. The weight is nominal for a lens of this caliber. If you like the outdoors and especially like landscapes this lens is for you. I looked at several other brands but kept returning to the Nikkor. My decision was a three month test and review of different wide angles. I am confident with this lens and expect it to perform well for many years. This lens will be used primarily on the D7100. I put a B+H XS-PRO Digital UV Haze MRC nano filter on the front. I am looking forward to hiking the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and the Wasatch range with this lens. Hope to see some of you out on the trail. Happy hunting! February 10, 2014
Brilliant lens, outstanding image quality Bought one of these second hand and I´m addicted to it... it´s a superb, tack sharp and free of CA lens, and it has given my love for photography a big boost. This lens is brilliant! January 1, 2014
The best I just got this lens about a week ago and I'm very happy with the pics taken what a big difference between my old Tamron 10-24 and this one. You should buy it. November 27, 2013

I require VR to compensate for my arthritis, and there are opportunities for an ultra-wide angle lens. I currently use a Nikkor 18-300 lens, but there are times when something wider would help.

Answer:
The widest lens you are going to get is the AF-S 16-35mm f/4G ED VR, there is no other lens wider with VR, the only other option is to use a tripod with a remote.

Answer:
The ability of doing infrared photography depends on the camera rather than the lens. Nikon digital cameras are not designed to be used for infra-red photography. However, many of our cameras can still be used for this type of shooting. Please see the following article on How to take infrared hotos with a Nikon digital camera: https://support.nikonusa.com/app/an...

Answer:
The AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is compatible with the Df. There is an Auto DX Crop mode that can be set when using the Df. Auto DX Crop mode will allow the camera to automatically select DX mode when a DX lens is attached. DX image area can also be selected when choosing Image Area. All these options can be found when in the shooting menu. For more information on Choosing DX Crop Mode, please see pages 52 - 54 in the User's Manual: https://support.nikonusa.com/app/an....
