Amazing Macro Lens I sold my 90mm macro and bought a Nikon, I should've stick to Nikon in the first place! This 60mm f/2.8 af-s works like a charm! I bought it used but works like new and the AF is very fast although I don't use it on macro but AF works and helps on portraits -) great lens! November 17, 2012
Many uses for this sharp lens! I bought this to photograph oil paintings. It is 1:1 and basically zero distortion. On my D800 it is simply amazing. For copy work I use f5.6 but this is a great 2.8 for portraits! It is almost too sharp, Every tiny hair is recorded. Rediculous. As an artist, I like to use my photos as reference for making artwork. The 1:1 ratio and lack of distortion make this the perfect lens for many things. I did buy it as a refurb but in 3 1/2 months it has been perfect. I need to look into the 105mm micro version as well. One more thing, it is the least expensive Nikkor lens recommended to use by Nkon for the D800. I can see why. You will get all the resolution from that 36mp camera with this lens. November 6, 2012
excellent lens Flat field over the entire frame of a D3 camera, Excellent for copying art work as well as extreme close up of flowers, insects and other extremely small objects/ September 2, 2011
Great Macro Lens for the Price just took this out of the box and started shooting. Never had a lens that took such good photos that close up. this is exactly what i need for work. Great lens August 6, 2011
Great lens and great image quality, without $$$ After owning this lens for more than a year now, I'm still amazed when I shot with this lens. Yes, you read it right, I'm amazed even when I just look through the view finders of my Nikon D700 and D7000. And the IQ is simply great when I later look the raw image files at my PC. This is one of the few great Nikon lenses that requires minimum raw file adjustment in Lightroom. The color, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and details are just gorgeous. May 12, 2011
Hours of fun! I bought this lens a couple of years ago and pull it out frequently for macro shooting and also standard 60mm portraits. Great for ebay shots as well. Well constructed and dependable. April 15, 2011
Great Macro Lens! For a cropped sensor this is the perfect macro lens, at least for me. The AF-S is a wonderful addition and it focuses fast and accurate on a D300 body. April 15, 2011
An excellent lens on both frame cameras I have used this lens on all of my 5 Nikon cameras. It is sharp with good color and is as good as a landscape lens as it is as a macro. I totally recommend it April 14, 2011
Sharpest macro on the market? With very low distortion. April 14, 2011
Superb resolution. In addition to the close focusing, its also a great medium telephoto lens. April 14, 2011
Great lens! Definitely my favorite lens in my bag. I would recommend this lens to anyone who loves macro photography! April 14, 2011
A lens I can "get close" with... I bought this lens for a few reasons, it's highly rated quality glass, it's fast, and it's a macro lens (what Nikon calls "Micro"). Being a macro lens was a big factor as I did not have a macro in my bag. So I put it on my camera and headed out I go to grab some shots of water droplets. While I was shooting I was surprised at how quiet it was (important when shooting events like weddings and you don't want to be intrusive), and just how close I could get to my subject, within a few inches. Now I could bore you with technical blah, blah, blah about this lens, but the most important thing to most photographers is, "what do the images look like?" Here are four samples straight out of the camera, no filter was on the lens while I shot, no post-processing of any kind was done, the only thing I did to these images was reduce their size for posting. I am extremely happy with the quality of the images and looking forward to using this lens more in the future. April 14, 2011
Excellent lens I have owned a 55 micro as well as the first generation of the 60 mm AF (which was stolen), so I recently purchased the new 60 AF-S. I have to say, I did not think I would be "stepping up" as much as I thought, but I was surprised, the AF is much better and the tendency of the old AF to hunt for the focus is much improved. The 60 was always a super sharp lens, and it still is, the major improvement with the AF-S is the autofocus. April 14, 2011
This is my favorite lens For macros is the ideal lens,It is inexpensive and the photos are with amazing clarity April 14, 2011
Awesome Lens I am a beginner photographer and this is my first DSLR camera and macro lens. I have to say that his lens is great and that I never expected in getting the results I am getting whit this lens, I do not know much about technical specifications but I just love the pictures that I am taking. I feel like I am a PRO photographer ;) April 10, 2011
My favorite lens I've been using this lens for three years now, and I have to say, that I'm constantly blown away by the sheer performance of this lens! The focus is so accurate and fast. In my opinion there really isn't a better lens on the market right now April 5, 2011
Crisp, Clean, Fast I bought it primarily for copying art work and can say that it has a very flat field, almost zero distortion and delivers crisp, clean color. The auto-focus is very fast and accurate, much better than I expected. The manual focus is smooth and silky. Unusual for a macro lens, its performance at infinity is excellent, making in useful for general purposes, perhaps as a replacement for a 50mm. On a DX sensor camera, the 60mm makes a perfect prime portrait lens. This could well be one of the best performers in Nikon's lineup. December 25, 2010
Great close-up & normal FX lens Great colors, contrast, and less distortion than FX normal lenses, portable size, permanently mounted on a D700 body November 19, 2010
Great Walk-Around Tack Sharp Lens. Rugged construction - yet does not weigh you down. Great walk around lens. One of the ways to travel light!!! September 27, 2010
Great lens I have used this lens for 3 months so far. I'm impressed. Sharp, very fast AF, vivid color, nice contrast, well built. August 19, 2010
clarity WOW!. In my mind I still have a lot to learn about photography and this lens shows another avenue of exploration. Took it for a test drive in the garden taking pictures of fruit and flowers. WOW. Took some pictures of my daughters engagement ring on her finger. Another avenue. My advice. Buy it and stay a kid. It's fun to explore with. August 11, 2010
This is an exceptional lens Great lens for close up as well as portraits Highly Recomend August 3, 2010
Super Improvement on it's predecessor... If you thought the old 60 f2.8 Micro Lens was sharp, this lens is not only sharper, but so much faster in focusing, it's insane!! This lens is superb for both Nature Micro work, but for Studio Product Photography. Very inexpensive and the quality is there!! August 2, 2010
Beautifull Crystal Clear Results I use this lense for obvious closeup nature photography BUT also for people portraits. You can adjust the depth of field to pin point your subject and super blur either side of your subject. The lense lets you tweak the focus manually after it has auto focused with out flipping switches or getting your eye off the subject. July 31, 2010
I've had a lot of fun with this lens for not only very close up photos of many small things, but also for a series of portraits for our church. No problems experienced. July 31, 2010
This is a fantastic lens that performs very well. This is the first macro I've had since I converted from a film SLR to my current digital SLR. It works every bit as well, if not better than my previous 35mm film SLR macro. It's extremely sharp and easy to handle. Sometime in the future I also hope to purchase a 105mm macro lens to complement this 60mm macro lens. July 30, 2010
Super Crisp Professional Images! I'd seen some photos with tight macro lens and asked around one of the photo sites, about what they used to get those great shots. This was the lens some of them were using. I got one and now I'm one of those guys that others are asking, "What lens did you use for that?" July 30, 2010
Best portable macro lens I had the pleasure to use this lens while photographing the wild flowers in blooming season at the great plains of Kansas. The lens is optically superb as you would expect from a micro. The weight and size make it ideal for when you are travelight light and it is a relative bargain for what you're getting. I loved the fact this lens can be used in a full frame body. It makes for a very good portrait lens specially if you want to get closeups of kids faces. Power macro users may want longer heavier glass. But this makes for a great intro lens to macro photography as well as a general purpose fast f/2.8 aperture lens. July 30, 2010
I have used this lens for many exceptional Macro shots especially flower stamens and pollen, i prefer using it in manual with a focusing stage and a right angle finder. the shots it has rendered have been tack sharp , using it with a center spot filter has given me some abstract impressions, I have used Nikon equiptment since the 70's when i had my FE with the 50mm on a reverser and ext tube. Nikon has always exceded my expectations. I am presentally using the D-70 and expect to add the D-300 soon . Keep up the good work. July 30, 2010
My favorite normal lens for FX I am a former 55mm f3.5 Ai and 60mm f2.8 D lens owner. I like this lens even more and it fills the gap between my wide angle zoom and sub-telephoto micro Nikkor lenses. As I don't need a larger maximum aperture the 60mm AFS G is a perfect portable, normal lens for my needs; its close-up capability is an extra and surprisingly it is a nice landscape lens also. At a bargain price, it produces excellent sharpness, colors, and contrast and above all, NO distortion. July 30, 2010

Answer:
There are some problems with the auto focus with this lens and the D7000. It has a lot of trouble focusing on subjects that are initially far out of focus. You can manually adjust the focus near the subject, then use auto focus to get it right though. It's very strange.
