The Most Useful Lens Of all the lenses that I own this amazing lens get the most usage. Hence, it lives on my camera 70% of the time. It's focal length is perfect for all types of photography which yields itself in produces stunning photos. You will kick yourself for not having it when you bought your DSLR on day one. In short, hit the buy button! July 10, 2012
Essential for anyone getting paid for photography This lens is fantastic. The only downside I can think of is that it is a bit heavy, but for the quality of the pictures, it is absolutely worth it. All the pictures are sharp and the color is spot on. The auto-focus is extremely fast and precise, and the M/A mode is wonderful. The Nano Crystal Coat works really well (that is what the "N" means on the lens). I recommend this to anyone that gets paid for their photography. If photography is your profession, this lens, as well as any f/2.8 "N" series lens, will increase the quality of your pictures so you can charge more for noticeable improvement. In that regards, it is worth every penny. May 12, 2012
Very Sharp Bought this lens about a year ago and since then it never failed me. Autofocus is fast, silent and accurate. Image quality is very sharp like super sharp. This is the lens that I will always bring wherever I go. May 9, 2012
LOVE IT ! 1 year ago I bought 85mm 1.4f for portrait work. It's fantastic glass BUT - this 24 - 70mm f2.8 it's pretty close and more flexible lens. Optical and build quality ***** five star ! It make me thinking to seal my 85mm 1.4f. Only reason to keep 85mm now is size. It's very light compare to 24-70. However from time I screw 24-70 to my body it's non stop there because its just perfect for most of situations and work... It's fantastic glass. May 3, 2012
yeah, it's the "real deal" i'll be brief: it does what you ask of it! heck, it'll even do things you just have no idea how to ask for! this piece of glass is "the real deal" and yes, i own the "trinity" all are way beyond your "idea" of what "works", highly recommended, regardless of the cost: remember, you do "get what you pay for" December 31, 2011

I currently use a D300s to take pictures at race tracks and want to either get a 17-55 2.8 or the 24-70 2.8 which one would be best for me, The tracks are a drag strip and take pictures at burnout pit and the staging lane. I also going to start taking pictures of sprint cars this summer. I also do green screen photography and need a lens to do both with tack sharp results,

Answer:
Hi
I would say nothing less than the 24-70mm,it would be great if you are very near burn out area,
anything down tack will be a dot...
the 17-55 is landscape lens, I would say it’s not even a question...

I do photograph NHRA when they come to my area.. I have used a 70-200mm usually only that...
but, I’m in the stands or at the safety wall, and unless the cars are right in front of me , i keep close to 200mm...

This lens would be tack sharp for sure, really would be nice lens if you are right there at burn out and maybe 50 ft down track ...

Hope this helps...

Answer:
To my knowledge, the teleconverters made by Nikon are specifically made for certain lenses,
and I believe mostly tele photos lenses...ie: 70-200mm, 200-400mm,etc...

I can’t find actual list of lenses that will work with the teleconverters...

Answer:
Yes, because it is an AF-S lens. This means the lens has a focusing motor inside it, and the camera doesn't need to power the focusing.

Lenses that are not AF-S need a camera with a drive screw in them to focus them. The D40 does not have a drive screw.

I can not imagine why you would need lens cleaned from inside...
If there is debris inside your lens, you have bigger problems than dirty lens...
I would contact "Service and Support" in main menu above...

I use auto focus and move my focus point around to put it exactly over the area of the image I want focussed (usually someones eye), I notice when focussing on something in the middle of the frame, the lens does tend to be sharp, but as soon as you move the focus point to the outer edges it is focussing behind my focus point. Very frustrating as my images are no longer sharp where I want them to be, if at all. I use a D700 camera body. I also use wide apertures like 4.0 and 3.5. Has any one else had this issue, or can anyone let me know what I should do? I need to have pin sharp images obviously not soft ones! I am a wedding photographer, but also do some maternity and baby photos.

If you are sure that it is not focusing sharply, then either the camera or the lens have a problem. You will need to send them both in to Nikon Repair to be checked and adjusted.

Answer:
Yes, You will get at a 1.5x crop so the lens will work as a 36-105mm on a D3100, which works well for portrait. The only thing to consider is that the lens is heavy, so with the D3100 you might want to take that into consideration. Best to go to your local shop and try out the combination.

hi
any lens with f/2.8 or 1.4 is best u can get for low light.
do u need telephoto lens to zoom in in action?
are you close to action?
if you r not to far away this 24-70 is pretty versatile lens.
if you are far away then think more like 70-200mm,
also, VR is very nice for low light.
hope this helps

This lens performs very well in low light. For shooting sports you may want a telephoto lens in order to get shots that bring you closer to the action. The Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 would be an excellent option also.

Answer:
As with any lens a steady hand is necessary to produce the sharpest images. I own this lens and have shot hundreds of images without any problems maintaining sharpness or handling the weight. Yes, it is bigger and heavier than most primes but it has become my regular walking around lens for landscapes, architecture, etc. Even at 1/30 or 1/40 shutter speeds and a wide open aperature I have not found it difficult at all to maintain a steady hand in shooting with this lens. Of course technique is important. Ideally you want to have a solid position, either free standing or braced against something; use both hands, one holding the camera body and the other on the lens; use a smooth action when pressing the shutter. If you are shooting a lot of outdoor images in bright light higher shutter speeds will minimize and problems from an unsteady hand. If you have trouble maintaining a steady hand with other lenses then you may want to consider a tripod or monopod to help you steady your shots with this lens.
