This is the wider range of zoom you start with. Amazing clarity with speed. Landscape or interior low light this is the one you'll ever need no mater what body you step up to. If your not careful you shoot your feet its so wide.

full frame gave me the ISO i had been needing at weddings...the 14-24 is insanely crisp and true. I get images right out of the camera that are ready to print and without distortion.
the optics would be absolutely unheard of even a few years ago.
I can stand in the corner of a room and see all four walls.....all four walls!

Favorite Lens Ever - Ultra Wide, Sharp & Fun
I've taken so many, and such a wide range, of my favorite shots -the ones that stop buyers and friends in their tracks - with the ultra-wide zoom AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens on my Nikon D700. If I could keep only one lens for that full-frame, I'd pick it, and let my Nikon D200 cover the rest.
Once you get used to positioning lens to optimize effective, dramatic capture of subject-scene with this incredibly edge-to-edge sharp, ultra-wide lens, your creativity will be unleashed more than ever.

Best wide angle zoom. Period.
Image quality is unmatched at any distance in the range. Sharpness is beyond reproach. There's a reason Canon users buy lens adapter mounts and buy this lens for their Canon's

Incredible Sharpness with little or no distortion.
I have used this lens for Landscapes and Architectural Interiors. This lens has little or no barrel distortion and it's sharpness has no equal. I must agree that living here in the Southwest, I wish I could put a filter in this lens!!

Great
This is truly a remarkable lens. Great image quality with imperceptable distortion across the entier zoom range. Flare is well controlled and predictbale. Great for stunning broad landscapes or creative close-up and perspective shots. Fast for beautiful, low light interior shots. AF is also fast and accurate.It is large, and it is heavy, but on a pro body it balances well.

one of best
I always was missing such a good wide zoom on my Canon gear. This lens is fantastic. Excellent optics and build quality.
IMO it has two drawbacks:
1. no standard way to use filters (due to its front element); so you must be very careful using it especially on events
2. it's huge and very heavy

Excellent way to go wide
I first rented this lens in 2008 to test with my D700. I was immediately impressed with the clarity and contrast of images and equally worried about having a big bulbous front element unprotected. It turned out the inability to put a safety filter on the front was not such a big deal. I got used to the giant lens cap, which stays on the lens when it should.
I have since purchased this lens. Distortion is very low until you get to the extreme end of its range. It is sharp as a tack even wide open. With a little care, I can use my ND grads at 24mm, but that is about it. Lee is planning a 6 x 6' filter and special holder for this lens, but it is yet to be available.
I have a 24mm f/2.8 AFD, but I have stopped carrying it most of the time and the 14-24 is now a regular fixture in my bag. There is flare shooting into the sun, but it is actually quite well controlled for a zoom.

Best UWA full frame zoom lens in the world.
The nikkor 14-24 is by far the best ultra wide zoom lens I've used. It is as sharp, if not sharper than similar f/2.8 prime lenses from 14mm all the way to 24mm. It is like having 3 primes (14,16,24) in one. When used with a full frame format DSLR, it simply creates stunningly crips images that are sharp corner to corner.
Autofocus is very fast and the f/2.8 aperture is great to have in low light conditions and also renders wonderful shallow DOF effects when focusing on close subjects. I recently took my copy to the jungles of Costa Rica and it performed without issue in the rigors of the tropical rain forrest.
The only drawback to this lens is that in order to use filters, you will need to purchase a square filter adapter such as the cokin-x pro system or the lee adapter. However, square filters provide more flexibility than screw on round filters so using a square filter system can yield better results.
In summary, this lens is one for the books of Nikon classics and a must-have if you are into ultra wide angle photography.

Impressive performance
I use this lens primarily for landscapes and it performs beautifully. It is extremely sharp edge to edge even nearly wide open. I'm always amazed when I see the images taken with this lens--detail is rendered so clearly.
Build quality is excellent--very robust. I once tripped while hiking, fell, and the lens (with cap) hit a large boulder. No damage to lens or camera.
The only downside to this lens: 1. It's big and heavy; 2. It doesn't take filters easily.

Great lens
I have been using the lens on my D700 for a couple of years and it delivers consistently great results. The sharpness is outstanding across the focal range. Yes you cant use screw mount filters on front but if you have to use them Singray does make large Zpro sizes that you can hold in front of the lens. If the price doesn't scare you off and you shoot alot of wide angle , what are you waiting for.

My Fav..
A beautiful young lady at Nikon Vancouver talked me in to this beast and i will love her forever for doing it LOL..
The quality of the images it produces is brilliant, the colors are intense and just pop od the screen.
It took me at least 6 months to start shooting with any other lens it is that good.
I shoot anything that is but infront of me with my little baby.
I find it very well built and the weight makes it easy to walk around with the D700 around my neck all day. At first my wishlist was a filter to fit on it but this lens takes such great images you do not really need any.
I would give this lens 10 stars
Just picked up the 24-70mm f2.8 and love it too

Unique Lens
This is a spectacular lens that is perfect to mate with the D3 when taking indoor, handheld (because tripods are not permitted) shots in cathedrals and other places. Outstanding resolution. Wish there was some way to protect the bulbous lens front, but that is the only negative to a truly exceptional lens.

Super, in all aspects, Zoom Wide Angle
This is a very sharp Zoom Wide Angle Lens with minimal distortion and a sharpness exceeding most single angle lenses within its 14-28 zoom range. I don’t know that could be better than this!

The creative travel companion
This is by far my favorite lens to carry with me and I own six other Nikon lenses. The exceptional low light capability and low distortion makes this a must lens for anyone serious about the outcome of thier shots. The ability to position and compose your shots to create realistic scenes with this lens boarder on fine works of art. I'm extremely fussy about my pictures and I often scoff at photos I see in magazines and wonder how they made it in the publication to begin with. Just about every picture I have printed and framed are 24" x 36" and not suprizingly taken with my D700 or D3s utilizing this extordinary lens. The pictures are sharp and as clear as my own eyes visualized at all f stops and lighting conditions. From the extremely bright sunny day that I photographed a flyover fron the upper south end zone of Lambeau Field before kickoff, a phone booth in a downtown square at high noon in Galveston, Texas to the cloudy afternoon I shot Ground Zero in New York City and the near sunset I captured of an amazing old Mobile White Eagle gas station in Suring, Wisconsin, all taken with this lens, all are masterpieces. Everyone that has seen these photos cannot believe that they were shot by me and thats a compliment I wish to share with the people at Nikon and anyone intrested in the great equipment Nikon creates for not only passionate hobbiests like myself but also those that are striving for perfection with thier photos. This lens is the one you are missing if you are as picky as me.

Big, bad, sharp, wide
This lens is a real attention-getter, on par with a 400mm 2.8 for attracting interested bystanders. It is a serious chunk of glass and performs as expected.
I use this extensively on a D700 for real estate photography, and also for landscapes. Great color. Sharp! Wiiiiiide. I have to remember that the best architectural interiors are not always at 14mm, but when you need it you need it.
Yes, it's heavy in the bag. But I use it for hand-held pole photography and have no problem keeping it under control.
No surprise that it flares (though not wildly thanks to Nano Crystal Coat) when the sun is in the frame. I often find if feasible to touch up unavoidable flare in real estate shots.
I'm still learning to make good use of this lens for landscapes, but have found that I use it throughout the zoom range. My widest lens in film days was an 18mm f2.8 and the difference is dramatic. This is a great lens.

An outstanding lens
I purchased this lens at the same time I purchased my D3s and have never regretted either. The lens quality is outstanding providing consistent crisp images. After spending a month in the National Parks and points in-between, I am thoroughly pleased with the purchase.

Fabulous super-wide
I use this lens for landscapes that involve a near foreground. The results are consistently great. It delivers sharp images at almost any aperture. The only drawback is that the design does not permit use of filters (aside from weird and expensive 3rd party contraptions). In particular, it means no polarizer fits on the front of this puppy. Even with that limitation, I highly recommend the lens because of its top quality through and through.

The sharpest wide angle zoom available
This is quite simply the sharpest wide angle zoom on the market. I use it in tandem with my Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8, which has its own distinct niche. The 14-24mm travels with me when I am lugging a full pack and can get by with not using filters, and want the widest view possible. When I am traveling overseas, I usually leave this lens behind, take the more compact 17-35mm lens, and can use thin filters, such as polarizers (with care, watching for vignetting and angle of incidence problems.)
Thank you, Nikon, for giving us this dynamic duo -- along with the new 16-35mm f/5 VR, which I have not tested yet, and could be a replacement for my 17-35.

best of the best
I am an advanced amateur, and I've been using this lens on a Nikon D200. The resulting images are surprisingly sharp and vivid. It is quite heavy, but on the camera it feels perfectly balanced. If you can afford it, I highly recommend this product.

Awesome Lens
This Lens is awesome. I use it with my D700 and bought it as a set with the 24mm-70mm & 70mm-200mm FX LENS. The glass is sharp, crisp and clear. Only issue is I can't put a protection lens over it, but then why cover up the perfect glass!? So I have to be extra careful!

Unbeatable
Nikon's new 14-24 lens is just phenomenal. The clarity is that of a prime lens. In fact, this super-wide angle zoom lens effectively replaces the equivalent prime lenses within most of its focal length. It's like owning a bag full of prime lenses that have been combined to make one super zoom lens.
Yes, it's that good. If you check around the web, you will see the pros falling over themselves for this lens after they test it. It's built like a tank and is precise as a Swiss watch.

Exceptional
This 14-24mm lens is worth space in your camera bag. Some complain of the weight, or the lack of filter attachment; The results from using this lens - they are exceptional. This lens is super tack sharp across all focal lengths and f stops. I love great lenses and I love wide angle - I love this lens twice.
It feels great in the hand, and is well made - solid. It is best used on a full frame digital camera with a creative eye looking through it. The lens will deliver some of the best images you can take through a camera. I can honestly say after my many years of camera use - this is the best lens on the planet for a wide zoom, nothing comes close.
For those looking for something lighter, with threaded filter attachments - Nikon offers that, just not in this lens.
I am glad Nikon made this lens the way they did, because Nikon made image quality the priority, and for me that matters.
If it is important to carry a "professional grade lens" that is considered the sharpest Nikon wide zoom, carry this 14-24. This lens even beats the fixed focal lens at the same focal lengths.

Fantastic Lens!
I've been using this lens as my main wide angle glass for the better part of 2.5 years on my D3 and D300 and I've had nothing but great experiences. I can't recommend this lens highly enough to any serious wide angle enthusiast or pro. I shoot primarily weddings, nature, interiors/architecture, and fashion. I previously owned the 17-35mm f/2.8 from Nikon and also used the 16-35mm f/2.8 from Canon and found both lenses to be inferior in sharpness, brightness, and overall AF performance to Nikon's 14-24 f/2.8. I have considered wide angle glass from the other manufactures but was won over by Nikon, primarily due to the superior speed, angle of view, and consistant sharpness--even at 14mm at f 2.8. Also, combined with a 35mm and/or 50mm, it virtually replaces the need for a normal focal length zoom. With these other areas {wide to normal} covered it frees you up to invest in good telephoto glass instead of settling for a slow telephoto zoom or worst yet a super expensive heavy one that doesn't really do wide angle or normal as well as similar glass. There are always different ways to approach this, but this combination of optics has made it possible for my partner and I to have 2 different sensor sized cameras without compromises either way. And if you're serious about having the best camera for low-light performance and overall composition, you'll want to eventually upgrade to a full-frame sensor body, in which case the 14-24 is certainly unmatched. Very fun lens and great interior shots
I use this wide angle for interior residential shots for appraisal purposed and it can produce great pictures without flash and minimal distortion. It is also fun to shoot landscapes or creative people shots. The only downside in the big piece of glass that is exposed and cannot take a filter.

Not as advertised
I am a very experienced amateur. I bought this lens to use with a D700 as the primary lens. I was hoping for great things and had been told great things by dealers.
When I got the lens it felt cheap and it was not tight at all. From the very first use it feels and is lose. For the price of this lens it should be much better build quality and feel. The pictures are no better than much less expensive lenses. No, it's not me. I used the other lenses on the same D700.

When I clean the glass on the Nikon 14-24 2.8 with lens cleaner, lens tissue, and wipe off with a micro fiber cloth I am getting swirl marks. How do I get rid of the swirl marks without over cleaning and damaging the lens?

Understand this lens cannot be fitted with filters which seems extremely odd to me, or can it?
If nothing else to protect the lens glass from the elements while shooting or an accident, can Nikon recommend a filter manufacturer that has or can custom make filters for this lens. I'd like to also know the thinking behind the engineering of this lens to not allow the use of filters for it. Appreciate it before I consider buying this lens with this liability or risk factor. Thanks.

Why isn't the hyperfocal distance mark engraved on this lens?
I would like to experiment with hyperfocal. Older Nikon lenses have the hyperfocal distance marks engraved but the 14-24 has none. Is there any tutorial available or perhaps Nikon could write a program that we could use to calculate the hyperfocal distances.

I believe you mean parfocal, a lens that stays in focus when magnification/focal length is changed.1) I've never tested the 14-24mm myself.
2) Nikon doesn't say anything about it.
3) But several third parties over the Internet say that "yes".
