I like this lens ideal for wildlife I got this lens a year ago. to shoot wildlife and I like the range. I have used it for wildlife and action sports with my D300s March 8, 2012
Great Product! I love this lens! I am a Portrait photographer and this is nice when I want to be across the creek or something like that. That pictures are sharp and it has a relativly high f/stop for a telephoto lens! I can't say enough good things about it! February 23, 2012
GREAT LENS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Been using this lens for about 2 yrs, attached to my Trusty D90, does everything I want it to do and More, excellent for Wildlife and it matches the ruggedness of my D90,neither have ever failed me. I am a Nikon user for more than 40 yrs/ professionally, no matter what SLR/Nikon You pick, you can't go wrong. February 3, 2012
35mm F100 Dynamo Fantastic for film and digital cameras alike, fast focus, average aperture, and great zoom, with active VR car shooting is easy December 31, 2011
Nikkor lens AF-s VR Zoon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G IFED Wonderful lens-I first bought the 70-300mm without VR and returned it. Could not get good quality shots and was poor in low light. This lense is wonderful for nature and action shots plus good for close up images. Very clear and I have no complaints at this time. The cost is more than the original lens without VR-however the quality and ease of use, auto focus is worth it. November 7, 2011
Super details This lens have captured many great shots with so much detail & color for me. It is a excellent lens for sports, nature and people.... I am totally pleased with this purchase. November 5, 2011
I really like this lens for nature and wildlife photos. It is solid, sharp and bright, despite its relatively small maximum aperture. I especially like the VR feature, which allows for hand-held photos down to 1/125th. For the price, I think this is a fine lens. Can't wait to use it to shoot my grandchildren's sports events. August 15, 2011
A very versatile lens Began with a 50-200mm lens that came with the d5000. I purchased this so as to not to have to carry too many lenses. The 70-300 gave me what I needed. The AF and VR are invaluable. August 15, 2011
GREAT LENS Very sharp in daylight. Does not focus fast in low light which is to be expected for a 4.5 -5.6 stop lens. Good value for money. Hope it lasts for years. It is mounted on my Nikon D7000 camera. July 27, 2011
Huge zoom! And great quality I purchased this 70-300 lens about 1 month ago, ever since i can't stop using it. It really does the job for zoom photography. This lens replaced my 55-200 VR lens because of it vast amount of coverage. I love this lens. It's a great lens for people who are looking for that extra zoom without spending thousands of dollars. Great quality photos at an affordable price. July 19, 2011
Really worth its price I bought this lenses more than a year ago. I couldn't make up my mind whether take 55-300, or 70-200. I bought 70-300 mm and I'm really happy with it. I've recently shoot a wedding and I've been travelling a lot through this year and I couldn't ask for anything better- well probably it could have lower f/. But with this price... The overall quality is great! Buy it! Do not hesitate. July 15, 2011
Feels good in the hand I had a Nikon before but traded it in for something else. Although the lens was good it did not lock on to the target as quickly as the Nikon. When hand holding the Nikon fits comfortably in my hand and is easy to hold steady. July 13, 2011
This product has great features one of the best I've had this lens for a few months now. I find my self always using it for close ups from 4 ft to the maximum length it will reach out too . Its fast very fast on auto focus. If you have the 500+ $ for it Buy it you cant go wrong !!!!! June 21, 2011
Love this lens! Was looking for something with a bit more range than my 200mm lens. I love this lens for taking nature pics (my first passion) and spectator shots at concerts & festivals. I get compliments on the clarity of the pics I take with this lens. May 6, 2011
Great lens, priced right I originally looked at the 70-200 but it didn't fit my budget. I had the opporutnity to use/test this lens at work prior to my purchase. after trying it out, I decided, for now, I didn't need to spend the extra money on the 70-200. I bought this lens and have been very happy with my decision. I've used it for surveillance and sports photography. The autofocus is fast, and the vibration reduction is outstanding. The only thing I wish it had was a wider aperature. April 29, 2011
Great Economical Zoom I have owned this lens for over two years, for use on my D90. For the money, you simply can not touch this lens. One of the rare consumer lenses that acts like a pro lens. For outside sports, this lens is great. Indoors, it's a tad slow. I will be upgrading to the Nikkor 70-200mm F/2.8 VRII soon, since I am in need of a faster lens for shooting indoor sports. April 23, 2011
Great product. I have found this a great lens for soccer and baseball high school games. Stops the action for clear pictures. High speed let you catch the action in a series. I really enjoy using it. April 20, 2011
Great lens I bought this lens approximately three years ago to replace my Nikon 75-300 AF. I believe this is the best consumer zoom lens on the market. color and contrast are great and VR allows me to get great pictures without tripod, although in certain situations a tripod is necessary with any lens. I use this lens for wildlife and some portraits. April 19, 2011
Be bold! The "VR" function let one be bolder, nailing shots that normally wouldn't attempt. It is not just a question of being able to shoot in dim light. April 19, 2011
Excellent Close up photos without having to be right next to the subject. I had taken many pictures with the 200 that just would not be able to zoom in enough on wildlife or the kids (yes more wildlife). While I am sure there are other lenses that will provide even superior close up this one is great for me. I am not a professional photographer so this was an easy alternative to the lenses in the $X,xxx price range and with a polarizing filter, I could not be happier. This lens is a must have for me. April 19, 2011
Great nature lens This lens is great for sports and nature shots. Easy to handle and support. The VR feature for image stabilization works great. Takes sharp pictures with great color. Love using this for action shots such as soccer games and bird shoots. April 18, 2011
Great Starter Zoom Lens This was the first lens I bought and I am very much pleased with the product. I take it everywhere I go. It is an awesome lens for shooting birds within 20-30 feet and for great zoom power. I have however sent my lens into Nikon while under warranty for repair. There was a minor part loose in the lens compartment that controls focusing. Nikon quickly repaired my lens and sent it to my doorstep within 2 weeks after mailing. Overall, this is a great lens for those who dont want to spend too much money, but have the ability to take awesome up close pictures. I must admit that the quality of the lens could be more durable (considering mine had a loose part in under a year). April 18, 2011
AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Purchased this lens on Saturday 4/16/2011 at Best Buy store. If you are looking for day time sport action pictures then this is your lens. Also works well indoors with flash if you are allowed to use flash. Did months of research on 3 zoom lens listed below, if you need more convincing then I suggest you bring your camera to the photo store and try out all 3 lens yourself. Before buying I tried out on my Nikon D60 the following lens: AF-S VR Zoom 55-200 (to slow for sports, auto focus is slow while panning the camera) AF-S VR Zoom 55-300 (better than 55-200 but still to slow for sports, auto focus is slow while panning the camera) AF-S VR Zoom 70-300 (auto focus is very fast and accurate, VR II is amazingly helpful, sharp pictures) This is the first semi-pro lens I have and I can feel the difference in build quality of the lens and in picture quality. If you just need zoom for still images then 55-200 and 55-300 will do just fine and actually are very light lens to carry around all day. I sure would not want to carry the 70-300 on my neck all day. But for any sport action pictures or birds in flight then get the 70-300 VR, you will be happy. At Best Buy you can pay it off on an 18 months payment plan 0% at around $35.00 a month (NY tax included) so buy the best to get the best pictures. I am very happy to have purchased the AF-S VR Zoom 70-300 IF ED lens and not the others based only on a cheaper price tag. Hope this info helps someone. April 18, 2011
Versatile lens of choice I am defaulting to using this lens a lot of the time. I find it crisp in action and image quality. I am v impressed with it and highly recommend it. April 18, 2011
Great lens This lens has great versatility and produces very sharp photos. It's great for air shows and similar events because it's big enough to give great reach and get good detail of the planes, but it's not too heavy that you can't hold it up very long. April 18, 2011
I have only begun to enjoy this lens. My first photos have all been on auto and the hand held results are amazing. I admit I studied the lens offerings for my D7000 camera; and came to the conclusion that the vibration reduction EG glass was the only zoom lens that made sense to me. April 17, 2011
NIKON'S BEST KEPT SECRET THIS LENS IS CHEAP, SHARP & FOCUSES FAIRLY FAST. SOMETIME YOU DONT NEED 2.8, THAT'S WHEN I REACH FOR THIS LIGHT COMPACT GEM. April 17, 2011
A great Lens in both value and specs As a new DSLR User, combining this lens with a Nikon D7000 was an obvious combination. The photos I've been able to take with this camera/lens combination both in day-to-day usage and on a recent vacation to Africa will ensure memories of what I experienced to last a lifetime for others to view. April 17, 2011
Happy with this lens I used this lens on a trip to Tanzania. I was wondering if it would be long enough to photograph animals as I suspected we would be quite a distance from them while on safari. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this lens combined with my D90 camera performed wonderfully well. Sharp photos and the VR feature was a necessity. I recommend this lens. April 17, 2011
great lens when taking far pictures...specially when you want to take a picture of Mt. Fuji... April 17, 2011

Answer:
The best lenses are the ones you can afford and the ones that suit your needs. No point in buying a 600mm if you want to do portraits, likewise no point in buying a macro if you want to do landscape. It would if you pointed out what you want to do and what your budget is.
