Key Features

Offers broad 18 - 200mm focal range for use in a variety of situations, equivalent to a 27-300 lens in 35mm format.

Nikon VR II (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization
Vibration Reduction, engineered specifically for each VR NIKKOR lens, enables handheld shooting at up to 4 shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, assuring dramatically sharper still images and video capture.

Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) offers superb color reproduction while minimizing ghosting and flare.

Delivers a high-level optical performance designed exclusively for use with Nikon DX digital format.

Enables focusing from as close as 50cm (20 in.) from the subject through its entire focal range.

Flower-shaped lens hood (HB-35) provides greatly reduced stray light.

11x zoom coverage offers a perfect compact and lightweight “one lens” solution.

Two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass and three aspherical lens elements minimize chromatic aberration, astigmatism and other forms of distortion, while ensuring high resolution and contrast.

Incorporates a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) allows for fast, quiet focusing.

Employs a 7-blade rounded diaphragm opening that achieves a natural blur for out-of-focus elements.

M/A mode for rapid switching between auto focus (A) and manual focus (M) operation.

This product has an excellant range I use this lens for just about everything. You have a great range so you can get the close up shots you want as well as the distance shots. It is so multi-functional. I would not trade this lens for anything. It is my favorite and is always on my camera. May 31, 2011
Best all around lens. Well built, easy to use and a terrific focal range in addition to providing a good depth of field. I love this lens and it meets the needs of nearly all of my photography work. Its certainly my all around lens. My wife likes to take photos of her cookie projects with it. April 28, 2011
The perfect everyday lens This lens has become my "stay on the camera" lens. I use it for almost everything, the imaging is excellent, a little on the heavy side but it feels good on the camera and does not make the camera unbalanced. The focusing system, both manual and automatic are easy to use and fast. Taking this lens to Poland in June and will put it to the test. April 17, 2011
Excellent one lens travel solution For the travel photographer using a Dx digital SLR it is hard to find a better one lens solution for general photography. On recent trips to Italy, Greece and Texas the number of times I found myself wishing I had a focal length outside this range were countable on one hand. The effective VR, when coupled to auto ISO and the excellent high ISO performance of recent Nikon DSLRs, allows shooting with amazing results in lighting conditions undreamed of with film. April 17, 2011
The ultimate "everything lens" This lens is super-sharp at every distance and virtually eliminates the hastle of changing lenses and the worry of dust on your mirror or sensor. I carry a Nikon 50mm 1.8 for low light and a Nikon 12-24mm along with this lens and I'm completely covered from 12mm to 200mm! AND low light! April 17, 2011
Nikkor 18-200 AF-S DX VR Lens is Outstanding! I absolutely love this lens for it's flexibility, versatility and ease of use. The range it has permits it to be used for most applications and eliminates the need for a lot of additional lenses. My friend is a professional photographer who essentially said, if you are looking for a lens, this is the one to buy. I have heeded this advice and could not be happier. Do yourself a favor and take a good hard look at this one. April 16, 2011
Great Muti-purpose Lense One lense that covers most shooting situations for most photographers. Great for vacations or shooting in the backyard. April 16, 2011
One lens does all. Excellent for professionals and amateurs alike. I use it on a D-80. The one lens I carry all day when I leave my gadget bag at home or in the car. Easily mounted. Almost fool proof operation. One suggested improvement: install an LED, or indicate on camera Control Panel, when Vibration Reduction is operating so that you reminded to turn it off when using a tripod. April 15, 2011
GREAT LENS FOR THOSE THAT WANT ONE DO IT ALL I do my photo shoot with two lens.the 18-200 is a very versatile in most situations, and the 28-300 is very good for stretching out to far distances.I use it on my D 70 and D90.I highly recommend this product. April 15, 2011
I use this lens with D300 and love it. and it is good in low light. April 14, 2011
Excellent general purpose lens I use my 18-200 as my prime lens for photojournalism and fire photography. Coupled with my D-300, 12-24 f4 lens and SB800, I have a full coverage capability which travels easily with me whether in my car or in a fire rig responding to a fire call. The only downside is that it doesn't land well when thrown from the back of an Engine when returning to station. April 14, 2011
does it all I eventually found the 28-200 lens for my 35mm so when I went digital I opted for the 18-200 right off the bat and haven't been disappointed. It does it all for me! The VR is a real blessing for an old guy when shooting @ 200mm freehand which I tend to do a lot when on vacation trips. April 14, 2011
Outstanding Product This lens is an easy to use, lightweight, and versatile product. The stabilization feature is great for an older person and for fast moving capture. I am very pleased with the lens. April 14, 2011
Unbelieveable! Better than you could imagine! I had read about the 18-200 and thought it might be all hype because of the rave comments. I even checked one out at the Nikon HQ in Seoul. But I had my doubts. When my 18-70 wasn't quite reaching out far enough, I decided to get one. That was one of the best choices I've ever made. This is an actually superlative lens. Wide angle, portrait, telephoto, macro- it does it all. And it does all of it perfectly. I'm going to join the choir: This is one fantastic lens. What you read about it is no B.S. It's straight gospel. Save your time and money, and get one of these to begin with. P.S. The VR is not to be believed. From the back of a bouncing bus scrambling through traffic, it froze the shot. This lens is all you need! April 14, 2011
The AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens is very well made, solid and smooth in its construction and functions excellently with the Nikon D7000 camera. I have experimented with the Vibration Reduction features in both the Normal and Active and Off modes and find significant quality improvement in both the video and still photography modes. Not a flaw of the lens at all, but I have noticed autofocus has a difficult time "latching" on to a flower close-up amidst blades of grass. The depth-of-field in such shots is tricky for the camera to judge because there are so many edges it can choose from to bring into sharp focus. For shots like these, one must use manual focus. Auto focus can also have difficulty recognizing edges when the lighting is low. For shots taken with good lighting, as in the shot I've included here, the selective focus and metering features work excellently, leaving the background blurred and bring the selected subject into crisp focus. Excellent lens - highly recommended. April 14, 2011
Excellent walk around lens It is the best walk-around lens and renders excellent results. This lens always remains mounted on my D300 and I seldom take it off. April 14, 2011
Pleased I have had a couple of issues with this lens, but the 5 year warranty has covered all problems. Versatile is definitely an excellent one word description for this lens. April 14, 2011
it takes a full range of pictures Bought this lens when it first came out and have not had it off of my camera since the very first day. Have done weddings, graduation, flowers and birds and the pictures are great. I would highly recommend this lens for all around photography. April 14, 2011
Excellent choice for wide range of subjects The 18-200 mm is the lens that I use most often. It covers so much ground I rarely use anything else. Especially when traveling the convenience of a single lens is great. And absolutely no comprise on quality; in all aspect this is a top notch lens. Strongly recommend it as a must-have for DX camera owners. April 14, 2011
Excellent for Travel This is the only lens I bring on our foreign travel trips. I have a D300 and this lens covers all of my needs, even in low light situations. I shoot raw and the 13 x 19" prints I make are sharp as a tack. If I need a close up, I can use my software to crop and don't need more power than this 200mm lens. April 14, 2011
Fantastic lens If you could only take one lens this is the one you should take. The versatility if great and the quality of the images are outstanding. I now use this more than any other in my bag, and I have lots. April 14, 2011
Love the lens Just don't like the creeping, when lens is extended. Love to have the new one, VR II April 14, 2011
Great lens, great price with all the features I have been using this lens for a few years now and love it. I never need to swap lens because this one does it all. I can get up close and distant shots with ease. Great overall lens for the jack of all lens. April 14, 2011
Incredible lens This is one of the best overall use lens for nature and wildlife photographers I have come across. The photos I have gotten with this lens simply blows me away. I am going to get the 17-300 VR lens as an upgrade because I want to be able to zoom in closer than what this lens gives me but I would highly recommend this lens to anyone who wants simply the best. January 31, 2011
This is a wonderful all around lens. I keep this lens on my camera at all times for "walking around." I can get good close-ups, fantastic landscapes, and can zoom in on distant objects of interest. If you don't want to have to change lenses constantly this is the lens for you. Expecially GREAT vacation lens! December 3, 2010
Excallant Lens One of the most versatile lens I have ever used. the focal range is very wide as to let you shoot anything from close-ups to far away, fast auto focus, as well as a Manuel mode. November 28, 2010
Excellent Lens.... my favorite I have used this lens since 2009 and it is excellent. It fits my photo needs very well... traveling, portrait, sport, daily activities.... it is very stable and allow you to go everywhere without the need of taking with you many lenses when the space is an issue. August 15, 2010
Worth the money I HAD A 18-55MM LENS AND ALSO A 55-200 LENS. I WAS ALWAYS SWITCHING BETWEEN THE TWO. FINALLY I HAD ENOUGH I SOLD THE 2 LENSES AND BOUGHT THE 18-200MM. I AM SO HAPPY I WISH I WOULD HAVE JUST BOUGHT THAT ONE TO BEGIN WITH AND SAVED THE HEADACHES! I LOVE NIKON!!!!! August 9, 2010
A lot for a few $$ Hi, i'm an amateur photographer and you know in the beginning of this awesome activity, everything take more time for everything that when you are a pro. I had a D-80 with a 18-55 and a 55-200, and I had lost many shoots because I couldn't figure out fast wich lens it will be the most proper for the situation and by the time I had the other lens on the camera the opportunity has gone. Also the new 18-200 VR II allow me to shoot in a really slow speeds 1/10, and the picture is not moved at all, it's awesome because I can't always get the tripod with me. It's great too because I can go out with a relative small camera/lens package that it will cover a 90% of the situations and now i'm taking the camera with me almost always. And the price it's silly, and I bet it's helping a huge amount of people like me to get into photography with a afordable budget. August 6, 2010
This lense is great. I use this lense around the house and at a recent wedding. It worked great in the low light of the Church. Add a little light with the SB900 flash and there is no picture you cannot get. The zoom works so great in the crowd, the church, The close ups are really great. This lense focuses really quick unless the camera is in live view (Nikon D5000). I only wish it had a wider opening Arpeture like 2.8. The lense is rather heavy, but that is the price of versatility. It is not as long as one would expect, and that is a nice bonus. August 5, 2010

Answer:
Purchase the 18-200mm VRII lens. It is denoted with a Gold VR symbol. The Red VR symbol is the older generation lens and you can purchase them anywhere camera equipment is sold. Just make sure they are an authorized Nikon dealer.

Answer:
Teleconverters take away auto-focus capabilities most of the time and interfere with the way the lens is engineered to operate. If you need a longer distance, grab a lens with a longer focal distance for slightly more in price. You will be glad you did instead of getting a teleconverter, but if you are set on it, Nikon provides one in the Lens section.

Answer:
For VR read this 6 part explanation:
http://www.nikonusa.com/en_US/IMG/Images/Micro-Sites/VR/experience/tips/focusing/index.htm
M/A setting allows you to use auto focus and then fine tune the focus manually without using any switches on the camera body. You just grab the focus ring and focus manually. M- turns autofocus off and you manually focus with the focus ring.
