Awesome lens for beginners or advanced users! I am a beginning photographer and I wish to turn it into a career! I do enjoy this lens very much and it will be going with my on my trip to the UK this summer! It's super long zoom and manual focus are excellent. I really do enjoy this lens and would recommend it to anyone! January 13, 2014
Can't beat the price! I just received the AF-S DX Nikkor 55-200mm 4-5.6 refurbished lens and used it for the first time this past weekend. A good companion to the 18-55mm 1.8-5.6. I primarily do portraits, but also enjoy documentary shots. The lens gives a feeling of being able to reach out and touch someone, even if at a distance. Light weight, and easy to use. I was also going to purchase a hood and lens bag, but to my surprise, the lens came with both. With a name like Nikon, I felt comfortable purchasing a refurbished lens. How could I go wrong. At present time I can't afford to fork out too much and so "Thanks Nikon". You made it possible. October 3, 2011
excellent deal This refurbished lens by Nikon is an exceptional deal and value . The lens focus is fast and accurate It looks like brand new . Came with lens pouch and the hood . also has a 90 day warranty by nikon great value September 29, 2011
Excellent lens Lens is lightweight. All pictures taken with this lens are clear and in proper focus. August 19, 2011

Answer:
Not only is this lens compatible, it's a great match for the D3000. As a DX lens, this lens is designed with the DX crop sensor in mind. The light exits the rear of the lens at the precise angle to maximize sharpness and reduce falloff at the edges while the two ED elements reduce chromatic aberration . The built in motor provides fast autofocus.

Go for it, it's a very good lens.

Verfy that both Autofocus and Manual focus work. Take some shots to see the results. There are charts and many helpful articles on the internet that you can use to make sure your lens is workiing right. You just have to search.

Yes you will have full functions. The D40x does not have a built in focus drive so you need lenses with the, - S designation meaning the lens has a built in focus motor

Answer:
Depends on what body you are using it on, turn the iso up for a start. You are limited because you will be at f/5.6 at 200mm which would in effect not let as much light in with a lens at 2.8 say. Also try turning the exposure compensation down a third of a stop.

Answer:
Do you feel any resistance when you zoom out and manually focus? Try cleaning the focus ring with compressed air and clean the electrical contacts on the lens. It has a built in focus motor in the lens. It might cost you more than the $250 US it costs to have it repaired. Is it under Nikon's extended warranty?
