Can't beat the price! I just received the AF-S DX Nikkor 55-200mm 4-5.6 refurbished lens and used it for the first time this past weekend. A good companion to the 18-55mm 1.8-5.6. I primarily do portraits, but also enjoy documentary shots. The lens gives a feeling of being able to reach out and touch someone, even if at a distance. Light weight, and easy to use. I was also going to purchase a hood and lens bag, but to my surprise, the lens came with both. With a name like Nikon, I felt comfortable purchasing a refurbished lens. How could I go wrong. At present time I can't afford to fork out too much and so "Thanks Nikon". You made it possible. October 3, 2011

Answer:
Do you feel any resistance when you zoom out and manually focus? Try cleaning the focus ring with compressed air and clean the electrical contacts on the lens. It has a built in focus motor in the lens. It might cost you more than the $250 US it costs to have it repaired. Is it under Nikon's extended warranty?

Answer:
Not only is this lens compatible, it's a great match for the D3000. As a DX lens, this lens is designed with the DX crop sensor in mind. The light exits the rear of the lens at the precise angle to maximize sharpness and reduce falloff at the edges while the two ED elements reduce chromatic aberration . The built in motor provides fast autofocus.

Go for it, it's a very good lens.
