Excellent Choice for Fisheye Lens
Wanted to buy a Fisheye Lens. Since we own a Nikon DSLR, the choice was simple. We have been experimenting with it, and are very pleased with the results.

amazing lenses
it is just awesome, I am having a tons of fun, you will love it.

Wide and sharp
This is one very sharp lens. I've greatly enlarged images captured with it (D200) and can hardly believe the details it's able to record. Originally the images I produced contained a great deal of the expected distortion and color fringing along back-lighted edges. However, when edited in Photoshop (CS5) using Camera Raw's lens profiles, you can remove the fringing and distortion easily. I only wish that this excellent DX lens could be fully used on a full-frame sensor.

AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED
This has got to be one of the best lenses that Nikon has released and if you are a wedding photographer this is a must have. You can get shots of the complete wedding party in one shot and the quality is outstanding. I've got another fisheye lens that I will most likely sell. Thanks Nikon

NIKKOR 10.5 f/2.8 ED fisheye lens
I saved along time for this lens, it is the best thing I had ever purchased, it is simple to use, so many different pics you can make with the lens. The winters scenes are the coolest.

fun to use
The 180 degree angle means you need to be careful where your fingers and toes are, as well as any companions. For landscapes, use the grid lines on the viewfinder to center the horizon so that it does not bow in either direction. The compactness of this lens is a good example of the benefit of the DX format. Photoshop has a good distortion removal tool.

Fun and frivolous
With my 16mm fisheye, this lens is used on my D2X for those funny, funky effects. Also used properly allows for super duper wide angle shots. Not used a lot, but definately a keeper lens.

Great... A must have!
I would just say... I thought I was enjoying my camera & gear (D50 with 35mm 1.8, 18-55VR & 55-200VR) but after I bought this lens, wow... now, this is fun!
Yes it is pricey but it is also a must have lens, it is compact, high quality & versatile.

excellent lens
I've been using this lens for about 2 years now and its always on hand when I'm out shooting. Great for any situation and the lens really gives you a unique perspective.

This is the bery best and most versatile lens.
The 10.5 mm Fisheye-Nikkor f 2.8G ED is my very favorite lens. I have found it to be the most creative in my photography, and it has increased my sales of photographs exponentially.

This is the lens
I have tried a handful of the fisheyes on the market and none so far have reached the quality of this lens. The lens is very sharp, very durable, and oddly pretty practical. There are days I will only shoot with this lens. So far the only lens that rivals this one would probably be the super wide FX 14-24mm f2.8 in terms of quality...

This is a great lens
Great lens for capturing large scens, large aircrft, tight spaces room in a house I styed at. Distortion is minamal.

Captures everything!
I love this lens and increasingly regard it as my default lens, on either my D70 or D200. Bought it about 5 years ago in New York's excellent B&H camera store.
It really 'gets everything in' when you need an ultra-wide angle, so it's particularly useful for indoor shots. Also, it's handy to be able to straighten things up and convert the image back to normal perspective in Nikon's Capture software.
Images are really good with a wonderful depth-of-field... I often pass my camera to friends to let them take a look at the perspective this lens offers.
Highly recommend this lens.
July 31, 2010
Indispensable lens for small sensor camera.
Permits travel with wide-angle surrogate that weighs almost nothing and takes up almost no space. Resultant images can be used as fisheye or converted with software to near rectilinear for practical purposes.
July 30, 2010
great lens for a super wide view
I had this lens since 2003 love it, popular in the Art world, it it great for photographing functions , weddings with a bit of abstraction as well landscape shots, express it your way, it is handy when you can not be bother bringing a panorama camera with you
July 30, 2010
Good value, good lens
Does the job when nothing else will. Of COURSE it distorts a lot... go with it.
Works great with Hemi software to de-fish.
There really is no other good choice for any DX body.... worth the money for the times nothing else will cover.

Great Specialty Lens
I use this lens regularly for wedding receptions. It gives a creative perspective to people and the venue. When shooting groups of people, have them lean in close together for the best shots. I have also shot hot air balloons from the basket that shows the flame and whole balloon.
July 30, 2010
a lens for every Nature/Architecture/Landscape pho
Whether you a Pro or simply enjoy photography, if you need an extra wide angle lens. This is the one to have. A bit pricey, but worth every penny.
I just returned from a trip to Paris, the picture I was able to get were totally amazing.
Strongly recommend it.

Fun
What a fun lens to use. Great image quality. Crates unique images in the right situation.
July 30, 2010
Sharp, Task Specific.
This is a great little lens, and very sharp. Watch out for purple fringing in the extremes with harsh contrasts, but nothing that can't be controlled. I use it primarily for shooting onset replacing the reflective sphere for HDR shots when we need to integrate 3D on live plates. For general photography, the lens is picky for composition in order to get an interesting shot.
July 30, 2010
The best panoramic lens
This lens goes everywhere and is amazing. I'm not going to bother getting into how good it really is. If you think you need a fish eye effect, or a perfectly rectilinear wide shot with the push of a button in nikon software then you have to buy it. Works excellent with many different panoramic heads.
July 30, 2010
Great glass!
I've had a lot of fun with this lens. I shoot, and raise various flowers and orchids and it has really come in handy shooting plant life.
My only complaint is the lens will not take a filter, so you have to be very careful not to scratch the glass. Other than that it is simply a great lens.
July 30, 2010
Well worth the money!!
I have been using this lens for about 5 years now, I love it. This is not a everyday use lens. I mainly use it at weddings, one shot during the ceremony, I stand at the back of the church and take a overall picture of the church. The other shot is during the reception, I usually use it when the new couple is dancing, I will take a overall picture of the whole place with the couple dancing!
Very sharp lens from edge to edge, very compact lens and won't take up much room in your bag!!!
July 30, 2010
complete fun
As mentioned already, this lens (which I've had for a couple of years now) can be a blast to use on a DX format camera. The ultra-wide perspective and huge DOF allows for fascinating perspectives when shots are taken from low angles or when a subject is quite close to the front element.
Also, this can act as a "quick and dirty" rectilinear wide angle lens when the image files (preferably RAW) are processed through DxO Optics Pro software. While some edge detail is lost as the software straightens out the barrel distortion, what remains is about the same as you would achieve with a 17MM lens on a film or FX body.
July 30, 2010
GREAT LENS!
Wonderful lens, works great, tack sharp, even good on a full frame camera.
July 30, 2010
Big sky lens
Terrific lens with outstanding color performance. A must for mountain panoramas. Great also for (some) close up photos with background. Absolutely delighted.
July 30, 2010
Fun, Sneaky, & Versatile
This is a great little lens! It's fun, tack-sharp, and you can literally shoot from the hip with it in situations where you need to shoot with stealth. If you frame your shots with a little to spare on the edges, you'll always end up with a shot that doesn't look too funky, and it gives room for fisheye software to straighten without losing important details. Great fun for getting the "whole picture", shooting landscapes and interiors, and emphasizing certain details of any scene. It's also a hoot to photograph horses' faces with this lens!
July 20, 2010
Big fun, small package.
When shooting with my F3HP's I always wanted the 16mm fisheye, but never got around to it. This time around when I got a D90, I bought this little beauty second (after the 16-85 VR). While I admit that I don't use it frequently, it's almost always in my kit and provides a perspective that's unique. The resolution, AF speed and handling are stellar. The more I use it the better I like my results - it's still teaching me!
July 20, 2010
A necessity....?
I took this with me to Europe along with a 12-24 and a 18-135 on my D300. It was used about 30% of the time on interiors of churches, etc. But I also used it at the markets and subways to capture the sense of the crowds.
Small and easily carried in a pocket. I just loved the way it was unobtrusive around people. Frequently, I would simply shoot without putting the camera to my eye to get those fleeting moments of people.
Will you spent the money? Let me just tell you this. How much would pay to have that shot or shots that you missed because you didn't have the lens? The camera is important, no doubt, but you won't get the shot without the lens! Buy the best and you'll never question the cost as you look at the results. Buy the cheapola and you'll curse yourself ever time.
Wish they would let me show you some results. You would be buying one today!

Answer:
Hi David.DX Image sensor of D200 is 1.5 smaller than standard 35 mm film (or FX).
If you need to recalculate focus lens from DX format to standard 35 mm film (or FX) you need to multiply focus lens on 1.5.
For AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED in 35 mm film standard (or FX) it will be 15.75 mm.
Like the same standard for 35 mm AF Fisheye-NIKKOR 16mm f/2.8D
Good luck

It would be the equiv. of approximately 52.5mm on film or full-frame because of the 1.5x sensor crop factor. It's a great walk-around and impromptu portrait lens.Mar 28, 2011 by

Do any gelatin filters work with the DX Fisheye lens? Which ones are the most useful.
I just purchased your 10.5 Fisheye for use with my D90 and D80 SLRs. I am not sure what gelatin filter(s) I might need or what size will fit into the lens. I noticed that Nikon has a series of color correction geletin filter available but it was not clear whether they were compatible with the DX Fisheye lens. I was thinking that a neutal gelatin filter might be useful.

Answer:
The 10.5 will not take filters as the lens hood is built in so even if you could find one you would have great difficulty getting it to fit. Not to mention the vignetting that would be caused by such an extreme wide angle. The colour correction filters you are talking about are for the SB flash units and are model specific, these are used to colour correct if need be and have no other use apart from that, they will definatley not fit on a lens.

Hi MaxSorry, but in Nikon D60 DSLR were is no internal AF motor, but you can use manual focus for AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED (all our functions will be supported).
If you want auto focus for Nikon D60 DSLR, you need to use lenses with internal AF motor.
Nikon lenses in the name must have AF-S or AF-I.

Answer:
Nikon offers two types of autofocus digital camera bodies: those with a built-in focus drive motor and those which require a lens to have a motor. Camera’s such as the D40 do not have a focus motor in it so they require the lens to have the focusing motor – an “AF-S” lens. While these bodies can use a lens with no focus motor (an “AF” lens) you would have to manually turn the focus ring to bring the subject in to sharp focus.
I'm interested in purchasing this lens, but I'm not sure if it'll fit on my camera body.

The autofocus function of the D5100 is no different than any Nikon cameras. The lens and it internal components will integrate into your cameras system. However, understand, this is a DX lens, and is designed for Nikon DX cameras*.
