Awesome Awesome Awesome Great lens, excellent quality, sharp, would recommend to all. July 30, 2010
Beyond My Expectations Bought this little baby 2 days ago, couldnt wait to take it to the California Nothern Coast, teamed up with a Nikon D7000, the results were astounding, my friends and family members tell me I could sell the photos I took with this little gem, I was also pleasantly surprised when I got home and downloaded the pictures, I was like WOW !!!, Did I really take these !!!, yes I did, view for yourself... December 27, 2011
A superb lens and effect I was first introduced to the Fisheye lens (16 mm 2.8) in 1992. It was an exceptional lens! However in 2011, the AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED is by far, the best of this series of lens, Its wide perspective (180 degree sweep) leaves me breathless! The images are absolutely extraordinary on the D7000 Nikon*. To make things sweeter, the lens has exceptional close range properties! November 26, 2011
This is a wonderful little lens; lots of fun. I have had more fun with this lens than I ever expected. I have gotten stunning results in many different settings from landscapes to portraits. There are many different situations in which I will use a standard or wide angle zoom. And then I will get this little 10.5 out to see what images I can produce. They often are dramatic and much more interesting. August 29, 2011
Great Lens I love the diversity of options for this lens. close as you can get or a wide as possible. July 29, 2011

Answer:
Can anyone elaborate on why this lens is not compatible with the D5000? According to the article, the camera is a DX format and so is the lens. So why won't the lens autofocus on this camera?

Answer:
Hi David.
DX Image sensor of D200 is 1.5 smaller than standard 35 mm film (or FX).
If you need to recalculate focus lens from DX format to standard 35 mm film (or FX) you need to multiply focus lens on 1.5.
For AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED in 35 mm film standard (or FX) it will be 15.75 mm.
Like the same standard for 35 mm AF Fisheye-NIKKOR 16mm f/2.8D

Good luck

Answer:
It would be the equiv. of approximately 52.5mm on film or full-frame because of the 1.5x sensor crop factor. It's a great walk-around and impromptu portrait lens.

Do any gelatin filters work with the DX Fisheye lens? Which ones are the most useful.

I just purchased your 10.5 Fisheye for use with my D90 and D80 SLRs. I am not sure what gelatin filter(s) I might need or what size will fit into the lens. I noticed that Nikon has a series of color correction geletin filter available but it was not clear whether they were compatible with the DX Fisheye lens. I was thinking that a neutal gelatin filter might be useful.

Answer:
Gel filters will work with this lens. They mount at the rear of the lens 27mm x 27mm with 5mm clipped at the corners. This alas, will not protect the front lens element.

Answer:
You would need a large filter overlapping the lens by a cm or two. Conventional screw on filters would interfere with the edge of the image.

Answer:
The 10.5 will not take filters as the lens hood is built in so even if you could find one you would have great difficulty getting it to fit. Not to mention the vignetting that would be caused by such an extreme wide angle.
The colour correction filters you are talking about are for the SB flash units and are model specific, these are used to colour correct if need be and have no other use apart from that, they will definatley not fit on a lens.

Come on Nikon Guys. The manual for the lens shows that you can cut a 27mm x 27mm gel filter and clipped the corners 5mm and insert in the rear gel filter holder. Works for me.

Wondering if the AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED is compatible with my NIkon D60 DSLR and if so will it auto focus or will I have to manual focus? Having a hard time finding this information through the website so I thought I'd try here.

It doesn't have a built in motor so it will not autofocus on the D60. It's a very cool lens though! I've included a shot my friend took for me w/ his D300 for reference.

Answer:
Hi Max

Sorry, but in Nikon D60 DSLR were is no internal AF motor, but you can use manual focus for AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED (all our functions will be supported).

If you want auto focus for Nikon D60 DSLR, you need to use lenses with internal AF motor.
Nikon lenses in the name must have AF-S or AF-I.

Answer:
It is compatible in the fact that you can shoot with it, but it will not autofocus on the D40. The D40 has no AF motor built-in like the D90/D7000/D200 etc.

Answer:
Nikon offers two types of autofocus digital camera bodies: those with a built-in focus drive motor and those which require a lens to have a motor. Camera’s such as the D40 do not have a focus motor in it so they require the lens to have the focusing motor – an “AF-S” lens. While these bodies can use a lens with no focus motor (an “AF” lens) you would have to manually turn the focus ring to bring the subject in to sharp focus.

Answer:
The autofocus function of the D5100 is no different than any Nikon cameras. The lens and it internal components will integrate into your cameras system. However, understand, this is a DX lens, and is designed for Nikon DX cameras*. If your camera is not DX, you will want to acquire the 16mm 2.8 Fisheye, for correct frame perspective for non-DX cameras*
