Frame your storm photograph before it happens. Remember that the sky is your subject, so dramatic clouds are what you’re framing for, and then you hope that lightning will happen in that space. Keep the horizon in the lower third of the frame with the sky the top two-thirds.

Shooting a lightning storm can be exciting. Use a tripod and set you camera to record a long exposure. With D-SLRs, 15 seconds is a good start, but you may have to use up to 30 seconds, or bulb setting (where the shutter stays open as long as you hold down the shutter button). Because you never know when the lightning will occur, keep shooting for best results. And don’t forget the tripod! Otherwise you’ll have blurry photos.

Try different kinds of framing with your flower shots. Instead of centering the flower, try placing it off to the left or the right of the frame. This will allow for you to be creative with the negative space (areas without the subject). Look for the patterns of other out of focus flowers in the background.

With a rounded diaphragm that makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural, a built-in flower-type lens hood and a 16mm equivalent focal length, the AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED is optimized for DX-format Nikon D-SLR cameras. Its Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass ensures superior sharpness and color, and Close-Range Correction (CRC) system provides high performance when taking pictures up close.

ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass

An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.

CRC (Close Range Correction) System

The Close-Range Correction (CRC) system is one of Nikon's most important focusing innovations, for it provides superior picture quality at close focusing distances and increases the focusing range. With CRC, the lens elements are configured in a "floating element" design wherein each lens group moves independently to achieve focusing. This ensures superior lens performance even when shooting at close distances. The CRC system is used in fisheye, wide-angle, micro and selected medium telephoto NIKKOR lenses.

Amazing technical quality for the price Per my caption: amazing technical capability and quality for the price. One big problem...no ability to protect the front lens element that is constantly subject to dust, dirt, grime almost every time I use it. As a result, I worry that there will eventually be scratches or surface wear over time and use. May 2, 2011

Lots of fun! This lens is so much fun! Especially when the kids get involved, they love when you get real close and distort their faces. The fisheye has created a lot of laughs! Also it is very useful in most of the photography I shoot cause I like to use wide angle shots to get full rainbows and skies full of lightning! It's fun for all ages! September 17, 2010

Great super wide lens Have used this over the past several years under a variety of conditions from interior to exterior shots. Performs well. There is chromatic aberration at the edges, but one would expect this on such a wide angle. NX2 does a great job of removing the distortion or left it as is from the camera. Both corrected and uncorrected images work given the subject matter. No filters, I say no problem. August 2, 2010

Great for cityscapes taken from above. This was always a very desirable lens for me due to the interesting perspectives it offers. I have taken several shots of cityscapes from on high looking down and the results can be eye catching. Additionally, it is very sharp requiring little processing in this respect. If you have limited resources I would suggest purchasing other lenses first as usage is limited by comparison. July 30, 2010

Great lens if you know how to use it I love this lens. You get some great shots if you know how to use it; that is, (1) get in close, and (2) get in close. I made the mistake of trying to use this lens to "fit it all in," until I noticed all my photos have a horizontal band in the middle 20% of the photo of teeny tiny interesting stuff, framed by 80% sky and uninteresting ground. This lens really works best for distorting straight lines with funky effects if you are up close and personal. That said, I love this lens. It also doubles as an ultra wide-angle lens if you buy DxO Optics Pro, which will remove the distortion in about 3 mouse clicks. Yes it is that easy! Two caveats: 1 - This is a DX lens and is almost useless on a full-frame camera such as the D700, D2, or D3 series bodies (unless you want a weird hood-shaped outline around the image. 2 - This should be obvious, but this is a FISHEYE lens, meaning you get heavy barrel distortion, meaning this is not a traditional ultra wide-angle lens. If you want an ultra wide-angle DX lens the best one out there is the Tokina 11-16mm. July 30, 2010

Great FOV but could be even more. I've had this lens since I purchased a D200. I need it in my work to capture a wide FOV from a driver's eye point while driving (mirror to mirror). Excellent lens for that purpose. Sharp and good contrast. I now have a D3 and I learned that other photographers have "shaved" the lens hood off the 10.5mm to increase the FOV to over 180 degrees horizontally on FX cameras. I did that just last week and it works great. Nikon should make the hood removable so the lens can be used on FX cameras as a partial circular fisheye as well as a full frame fisheye on DX cameras. I think all other manufactures of full frame fisheye lens make the hood non removable. A removable hood would add to the market value of this lens, especially for all the photographers now into VR and skateboarder photography. It will also be an attraction when Nikon introduces 1080 video. July 30, 2010

Good but you need Capture NX2 as well The lens is very good at what it does. BUT, the chromatic aberration can be quite pronounced along high contrast edges. Fortunately, if you run the picture into Capture NX2 with the chromatic aberration correction turned on, the software does a very good job of removing a huge portion of the distortion. July 30, 2010

Most Creative Lens If you want to have fun with your camera then this lens is a must. It brings out the creativity in your images, Focus is sharp, accurate and fast. Great value for money . This lens goes every where with me. July 30, 2010
