Beyond My Expectations
Bought this little baby 2 days ago, couldnt wait to take it to the California Nothern Coast, teamed up with a Nikon D7000, the results were astounding, my friends and family members tell me I could sell the photos I took with this little gem, I was also pleasantly surprised when I got home and downloaded the pictures, I was like WOW !!!, Did I really take these !!!, yes I did, view for yourself...

A superb lens and effect
I was first introduced to the Fisheye lens (16 mm 2.8) in 1992. It was an exceptional lens! However in 2011, the AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED is by far, the best of this series of lens, Its wide perspective (180 degree sweep) leaves me breathless! The images are absolutely extraordinary on the D7000 Nikon*. To make things sweeter, the lens has exceptional close range properties!

This is a wonderful little lens; lots of fun.
I have had more fun with this lens than I ever expected. I have gotten stunning results in many different settings from landscapes to portraits. There are many different situations in which I will use a standard or wide angle zoom. And then I will get this little 10.5 out to see what images I can produce. They often are dramatic and much more interesting.

Use a different lens, beings as its a fixed focal length lens as well as being fish eye then there is not a lot you can do apart from trying a wide angle lens as the fish eye is exaclty what it says it is.

Yes, the 10.5mm is compatible with any Nikon body with an internal focusing motor, like your D80. The speed that it focuses is affected by the body you're using, though. I found that the D80/D90 bodies focus it a little slower than the D7000.Feb 3, 2012 by

Sean is correct D5000 does not have a lens motor so you would have to manually focus the lens.Answer:
the d5000 has no inbuilt motor drive i beleive (someone confirm?) this means all lenses will need to have a built in drive to operate in autofocus.this lens has no inbuild motor i don't think (not got one) so would be manual focus only on the d5000
I'm looking for this exact lens but to go with a nikon 1. Will this fit on it?

The answer is a qualified YES. I'll be upfront and let you know I have no experience with the D60, (I shoot with a D300s), but your camera manual states that it will support this lens. You may have to shoot with the lens in manual focus mode as opposed to AF single servo or continuous servo.IF you like, go to the info page for the lens click on the SUPPORT tab and on the right hand side of the page click on DOWNLOAD the MANUAL. Loads of good info about the lens.

Answer:
"G" Lenses like the 10.5mm are not designed to work on Nikon film cameras. First, the have no aperture ring to stop down the lens. This is done internally in Nikon's digital cameras. Second, the image circle of the 10.5mm is too small to cover 36 x 24mm film, which means you'd have to crop each frame while printing to get full coverage images. If you want to preview Nikon products I've found it useful to download their PDF manuals from the SUPPORT tab loads of info there.

but I am wondering what camera will the autofocus on this lens work with?
I use a nikon d3000 and I have just bought this lens. It doesn't bother me too much that the AF doesn't work. But I am curious which models it works with for when I come to upgrading my camera.

I purchased this lens in 2007 and sold it because of color fringing. Have they resolved that on newer models?

I bought a 10.5 2.8 when I first got back into photography in 2007, after a long hiatus. Enjoyed the field of view but was discouraged by chromatic abberations (color fringing) on the lens. Eventually sold it because of that, and to pay for other lenses that would be more useful.
Now I find myself interested in a fisheye again, but worried about repeat of the fringing issue. Would use this mostly for concert and roller derby photos, some landscapes, and nighttime sky photos.
