AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E II 4.8 5 6 6
A good addition to my lens collection. I am an advanced amateur and I've been using this teleconverter on a Nikon D200 with a 70-200 f2.8 VR lens. I am not very experienced in using this kind of accessories, but the results are pretty impressive. Easy to use, it does pretty well what it's supposed to do. Maybe it's a little bit expensive, but the results are worth it. Recommended. July 30, 2010

I want to be able to use this and the other currently produced TC lenses with my AF Micro-Nikkor 200mm f/4D IF-ED, but I don't see my macro lens listed in the TC compatibility list. Is this an oversight or is my lens just not supported at all? It seems that my lens has to be supported, and that the compatibility list is just old. Someone please provide a knowledgeable answer.

Answer:
No it will not fit. A set of extension tubes work well on the 200mm if you want to get that bit closer.

Ok I know I should use a 2.8 lens but that is out of my price range at this time.
I am looking to purchase this combination to shoot pictures of bears in AK. I am told that they are normally at 100-600 mm away. I do have a 70-200 F2.8 with a TC-2. But want what will take the best pictures at this distance. Any suggestions on the best lens choice? My camera bodies are D600 & D7100.

Answer:
Lets answer in a different way since you didn't understand my first answer. Most consumer grade Nikon DSLRs will not autofocus when e maximum aperture is greater than 5.6. The 80-400 with a 1.4 teleconverter has a maximum aperture at the long end of f/8 (5.6x1.4). The D7100 and D600 will auto focus at f/8. You will need a tri or monopod to steady the camera. I would suggest your D7100 with the 70-200 f/2.8 and the 2.0 teleconverter. Thw teleconverter will give you 140-400mm coupled with the 1.5 DX crop you get 210-500. Switching your D7100 to the built in additional 1.3 crop mode you will now have an effective field of view of 275-650mm with a lens that has better optics than the 80-400mm and you will be shooting with a faster maximum aperture of f/5.6
Hopefully you understand my explanation.
