One of the best portrait lenses I own! I use this lens almost exclusively for portraits. The glass is clear and crisp and it is very fast. This lens works great on FX frames, but it also works very well on crop sensors as long as you remember the 1.5X. I like the versatility the defocusing control gives you, but to be honest, I rarely use the defocus control unless I really want to soften the focus of a subject. I highly recommend this lens! You will not be disappointed if you know what you are doing. This lens paid for itself in the first hour of use! April 10, 2012
Excellent Lens: Love everything about this Lens This is a great Lens. Things I love about this lens are: Picture Quality - Excellent, Very Sharp w/ great Color and Contrast. Build quality - Excellent, Very Ruged Looks and Feel F2 - Fast Lens DC Control; Dont really use but Nice to have Available Built in Hood - I like this Feature. Very Handy. I use this on a D80 and this Lens gets the best out of it. Produces some stunning Photos. Don't have any dislikes on this Lens, except maybe the Price. March 4, 2012
Wonderful Lens I use this lens at my pediatric office. And with the help of Nikon R1C1 macro lighting system it gives me astonishing results. I've tried it with flowers and small objects and it is great. I love the ease of focusing, the sturdiness and the sharpness of the photos. I intend to use it as a portrait lens too and I can't wait to see the results. Super Lens May 14, 2011
Awesome portrait lens I recently purchased the 105mm/f2D lens for portraiture work on a local ballerina. The results were, to say the least, astonishing. The control over depth of field allowed a creativity that is hard to accomplish with regular lenses. The wide open aperture gave awesome backgrounds and the glass itself was flawless and precise. It allows pin sharp and soft focus images without having to deal with post production. I wish I had bought this lens years ago! April 14, 2011
Great Portrait Lens Works great on my D3 for outstanding portraits. The lens has awesome bokeh and is tack-sharp. The only complaint is the flimsy built-in hood - it often gets stuck when returning it to its "closed" position. September 30, 2010

Answer:
It is, but I'm returning it. It's a sluggish lens that in my opinion performs poorly below f/4. Maybe consider the the 85mm f/1.4.

Answer:
It should be fully compatible with D7000. But one small warning, because of the 1.5 Crop factor on the D7000, you working focal length will be 157.5mm . Make sure you are comfortable to work with this focal length before you get it. (Having focal length trouble with this lens on a crop body myself)

This is a fantastic lens, no question. But at times it is literally impossible to unscrew the hood (so as to attach a filter, for instance). I fear that if I twist, pull or push any harder I'm going to break something. What's the best way to tighten and remove the hood?
