Great all around lens. Great lens I have been using for 12 years. Sharp and fast. Can be challenging because of the lack of the VR. Beautiful lens overall. April 20, 2013
Great Versatile Lens This lens does a little bit of almost everything and it's super sharp. It is the go-to walking around lens on my D7000. April 1, 2012
Great travel lens Great travel lens. My sample is sharp at all focal lengths and apertures. Additionally, it has great bokeh and color rendition. Only downside is it's a little big and heavy. It has exceeded my expectations for a zoom. December 5, 2011
Glad I have it! This lens is outstanding for value and practicality. Like anything, at either extreme, (24 or 85mm), this lens isn't as fantastic as it is in all the middle lengths. I use it constantly on my D300S and a D50. Along with my 70-200 f/2.8, I don't need to pack my other lenses. October 26, 2011
The only lens for travel shots I have used this lens with a D300 in many parts of Europe and it's perfect; have never said "why didn't I bring ......" April 14, 2011

Is this lens sharper than the Nikon 18-135mm? I'm looking at purchasing this as I read some good reviews plus it has the macro facility whereas the newer f3.5 version doesn't.
I have a D7000 body.

No, the lens does not have a focus motor and neither does the camera. Look at lenses with a AF-S designation, the "S" means the lens has a silent wave focus motor.

Answer:
With the D90 and other modern (CPU) cameras the lens aperture is controlled by the camera instead of the ring on the lens. To use a D-type lens, which has an aperture ring, on these cameras you must lock the aperture ring at its highest f-stop. Then use the camera's sub-command dial to change the aperture setting.

See the lens manual for information on locking the the aperture setting - a copy of the manual can be downloaded from this address:
http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals...

More information on controlling the aperture using the D90's sub-command dial can be found on page 82 of the D90 manual. A copy of the D90 manual can be downloaded from here:

I need to know what wavelengths will pass through this lens. That could be answered by a transmission curve or just tell me what kind of glass is used. BK7, Fused Silica, Crown, Borosilicate etc.

Can this lens take full advantage of a D7100 camera?

Jan 13, 2014 by
0points
0out of 0found this question helpful.
Was this helpful?helpful0unhelpful0
More specifically can D7100 change the aperture in A (auto) or S (shutter) or it has to be done only in the lens ring? Also how does the aperture change from f/2.8 to f/4: with the focal length (e.g., linearly) or with the mode (e.g., macro, normal)?

Best Regards.

Answer:
Lens and camera are fully compatible, leave aperture ring set at f/22 and adjust with camera. Shutter speed is also adjusted with the camera. Aperture will change with focal length, f2.8 at the wide end and f/4 at the long end of zoom.

Answer:
Personal opinion, not really. IQ is much better on the AF-S 24-70 2.8 and you won't lose a stop on the long end. Since a lot of wedding photos are shot in lower light that stop can make a difference.
