AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G 3.9 5 27 27
Great zoom lens for sports photography I have used this lens for nearly 10 years for many purposes and find that it is just terrific for sports events due to its sharpness even at the maximum zoom setting. August 18, 2011
Awesome! I can get 300mm pics with no Blurr with the VR. Pin point accuracy on the Focus! No complaints! I love the lens! ALSO! takes pretty nice macro shots fully extended. August 1, 2011
Excellent performance despite the cheap price. First of all it does not have VR and won't auto focus on D3100. For that there is AF-S 55-300 VR at almost 3 times the price of this one (online). This is also one of he two cheapest priced lens in the entire Nikon catalog. So I was hesitant if it is worth buying. It is worth if you are looking for a decent telephoto zoom, won't mind manual focusing, and usually taking pictures during the day. Picture quality is sharp (better than I expected), way better than your 10x point & shoot or SLR looking super zoom. Almost like your kit zoom. It is light so not much of a problem to carry. If you want to shoot in the low light you need 300 f/2.8. Just look at that size and price and if you earn money from photography then you don't need this one. But even then considering the size and price you can keep this one as spare when you are on vacation. I liked this one more than I expected. May 4, 2011
Smooth motion quick focus This lens is one of the smoothest transition lenses I have used. The auto focus function is quick and quiet. The VR at maximum zoom allows for hand holding with no distortion or bluring. Manual focus function is also very smooth and easy to use. May 2, 2011
Great Lens-Great Price-Great Results I Have enjoyed the good optics, versility, and VR, of this mid range lens. It is recommended for various types of shooting in good lighting or on tripod.Nice addition to your lense arsenal. April 15, 2011

Answer:
Yes, but it will not autofocus on a D40/40x/60/3000/3100/5000/5100. This lens will only autofocus with bodies that have built-in auto-focus drive motors, such as D80/D90/D7000, and up.

Answer:
Cameras such as the D5000 do not have a focus motor in it so they require the lens to have the focusing motor – an “AF-S” lens. While these bodies can use a lens with no focus motor (an “AF” lens) you would have to manually turn the focus ring to bring the subject in to sharp focus.

You may want to try the AF-S version of this lens.

Answer:
I don't believe there is anything about this lens that would make it incompatible with your camera. I think you will find that it will expand your vision by bringing small things closer and allowing you to take pictures of objects at about five feet away and throw the background out of focus so the entire picture concentrates upon your object of interest. You will find he lens light and easy to work. Just remember to relax, take your ttime, take a deep breath and squeeze the shutte button slowly to get great pictures.

Answer:
Yes. Any af-s lens will work with the Nikon d3000. Af-s means that there is a servo motor in the lens itself to power the auto focus. All of your lenses need to be af-s if you want autofocus to work.

Answer:
The D3000 does not bring a Auto-Focus motor for AF Lenses, this is what helps the lens engage focus on a subject when pressing halfway the shutter button.
This camera requires lenses with the motor built-in. Make sure they say "AF-S" at the beggining of the model.

If you want to use this lens on a D3100 you will have to achieve focus manually since the camera body doesn’t have the internal motor for AF.

No. You will need an af-s lens as your camera does not have an internal focusing motor. If you use just an af lens, the lens will have to be focused manually.

Answer:
Yes, the AF 70-300 4/5.6G zoom lens not only works with the D90, but it works very, VERY well! That's all functions, including ambient and flash metering, autofocusing in all modes, DOF preview...everything! And it is particularly well balanced on a D90, permitting low shutter speed hand held shooting without the need for VR.
