I hope somebody who really knows will also answer. I take it that the D5000 is larger than a Coolpix S3100, which is truly small. The camera connector on this cable is quite tiny, because in the S3100 (and others that use that connector) there's essentially no room for a bigger one!

My semi-educated guess is that it probably won't work. Nikon should have a table, chart, list etc. telling what's compatible.

Cameras with larger connectors seem to be establishing a standard, and Nikon probably follows that standard. Such cables seem rather easy to find.

i don't think it does. the one you need ends with an RCA yellow plug on one end and a 3.5mm jack plug on the other (i don't know the exact model number).
