Answer:
Red light is totally turned off if batteries are fully charged. If the batteries are fully exhausted, then it'll take 4-4.5 hrs to be full charged in case of EN-MH2-B4.

in case of EN-MH2-B2, it will take 2-2.5 hrs.

Does the EN-MH2-B4/MH-73 set heat up the batteries quite a bit when charging?

The unit shows a constant red light when charging. From what I have read in this forum, the light goes out when fully charged (no instructions included with my unit) so overcharging should not be an issue it seems, but the batteries and the charger get VERY warm. Not hot, just warmer than any rechargeable system I have used. Is this normal? Oh yeah, the unit also "hums" off and on when charging. Thanks!!
