I LOVE MY CAMERA!
This camera has so many features I'm still learning how to use them all. I really like that I can flip the screen over when I'm not using the camera to help protect it. The handy aperture button is very convenient too. The menu is easy to navigate to change things like the ISO settings and metering. I'm looking forward to taking tons of pictures with this camera for a long time to come.

Excellent Machine
Bought my D5000 knowing little about photography. Its easy to use, lightweight, and takes great photos. Id recommend this to anyone just starting out with photography, or who just wants a great camera to take family photos. It would also make a great second camera for professionals who might want to take quick snap shots on the go. Ive learned alot from its simplicity. Another feature I love is the rotating screen which allows me to get different angles and wierd shots with ease. GREAT CAMERA!

Great product with great pictures
Product took time to learn but has given me all the enjoyment that I imagined. Picture quality is dramatic and all the problems I found were self induced. Once I learned the ins and outs of the camera it became my close companion.

I like this product and it is grest!
Nothing to declare! The product is great! I use the Nikon's products have time ago.

Great Camera
Great camera for first DSLR. Once you take pictures with this camera you will never go back to point and shoot. Enough features to keep a pro busy. Great way to learn about shutter and aperture settings because if the results are not what you wanted, just delete the shot and try again.

Professional !!!
When people see my pictures they ask if I am a professional photographer!! I love it!!
July 22, 2010
Great for Beginner and Advanced Photographer
I love this camera. It is as simple to use as a point and shoot, yet has features that make the camera a great selection for the advanced photographer.

Love it
Love the Nikon D5000 I am looking forward to buying more lenses. I am not a professional photographer, but the pictures I have been taking of wildlife and my grandkids are the BEST

Outstanding equipment and pictures!
As my first full fledged SLR Digital camera, using the D5000 has just been awesome. The features of this camera have made my vacations so much more exciting and memorable. Details and colors shown in the pictures taken are made so much more clear than the real thing. Thanks Nikon!!

so very dissapointed
i was so excited to purchase my nikon d 5000 camera. shortly thereafter there was a recall.
shortly after that, the nikon transfer software crashed and i was told that the windows i have with 64 bit is not compatible. no one ever mentioned that, nor did the manuals. the only way to upload photos was a memory card. did nikon assume i would have a computer with one?
now i am having issues b/c the camera is not auto focusing.
i am really dissapointed. numerous contacts and emails with nikon have gotten me nowhere.
and people on the phone were downright nasty. would like to trade this camera in for a different nikon camera before i defect to another brand.
interested?

Absolutely love this camera!
I absolutely love this camera. I am able to take great action shots and extreme close-ups with exquisite detail. I bought a couple of extra lenses which I have been playing with and I am learning as I go along. I have the most gorgeous photos and have such fun taking photos that I have my camera with me all the time!
July 22, 2010
Good features & fits my hand size nicely
Disapointed that auto-focus does not work when taking LV videos

The best one yet
I bought this camera about five months ago and couldn't be happier with it,

Great all around camera.
I love every feature of this camera. It is great for every situation. Very happy it has an auto bracket feature to allow you to make incredible HDR photos. Only complaint I have about it is the live view auto focus is very slow. Otherwise a great camera. A great purchase.

I love this camera. It is so simple to use!
With just a little reading of the manual I have become a pro at photography with this neat little camera. The modes and scenes features are awesome and even in low-light pageant stage settings from the audience, I had great pictures. I am purchasing a zoom lens for it soon so I can really take advantage of all this camera offers. Highly recommend getting one.

FANTASTIC
I love this camera, just took it on vacation to the black hills and yellow stone national parks and the pictures turned out beautiful, all the different features on the camera gives you lots of option to work with the cropping on the carmera is really nice also. If you are looking for a nice camera and are willing to spent the extra money get the nikon d5000. you wll be glad you did.

Camera is very easy to use and it takes such great pictures. I have had many camera's but by far the is the best. Would recommend this to all.

My D5000
I really like this camera, but wish I better knew how to use it. The pictures I have taken are very nice, some even great. I sure wish I had someone to turn to for lessons/advice.

VERY easy to use. Great MP rating
Blow-ups are no problem with this 12 MP camera. I up graded from a D40 and the difference is obvious. It is a very easy camera to use and experiment. The menu is easy to operate and switch back and forth between settings. You can take several pic's quickly which makes it a lot easier to capture action shots then crop right there real fast. The large screen is easy on the eyes and the flip around screen feature is a nice safety feature. Alot of camera at an affordable price. I've had Canons and Olympics in the past. They are good....this is better.

very good for everyday use

WOW!! What a feature filled fabulous camera
This camera was given to me by my amazing wife as a birthday gift. The pictures that come from it are outstanding and that's just with everything set to Auto. I have found that if I snap a picture and it doesn't look quite right, all I have to do is adjust some settings or even use one of the pre-set scene settings and the next picture is perfect! As well this camera takes HD video!! Spectacular views of a mountain top were captured on a beautful day and shared easily. This camera is worth every penny and with all of the accessories that can be used with it, photo taking will be a wonderous new adventure. As well, the software that comes with it allows for post-processing without affecting the original image. What more can an amateur photographer ask for?
July 22, 2010
I like this SLR..
I've got great results from the D5000 clicking pictures at night, doing some HDR stuff etc. The flip screen is actually very useful, the build quality nice. The initial problems that the D5000 had never effected me.
The only missing thing is the second dial for changing the shutter speed / aperture. Otherwise, its a great SLR for anyone to have
July 22, 2010
Great Entry Level DSLR
D5000 is my first DSLR which i bought couple of months back, the camera has all the advanced features as well which you can find in a higher model like D90 although the processing speed is slow.
But for a startup amateur photographer, it is a great camera with all loaded and flexible features like live view. Took some pictures on the 4th July fireworks and the shots were awesome.

I`m very satisfied, this camera is simply great!
I´m very happy with my camera! It has many wonderful features. Its built in editing capabilities are great!

My choice
I have a 35mm Nikkon (2nd one since 1972) and the digital Nikkon. This digital uses all the lens (manually) from prior cameras -- THIS IS GREAT!!. The digital takes better pics than I expected. Manually it is awesome.
July 22, 2010
i love this camera
I really enjoy the creative freedom allowed by having all the functions and features it does. Especially the live view rotatable screen which allows the photographer to shoot from angles that could not be reached by other dslr cameras. The HD video is awesome too.
July 22, 2010
Great camera
I love this camera!! Easy to use and great picture quality. Used it in Alaska and Normandy. I have friends who want to buy my pictures. It is very flatering. I just say it is the camera not me. You could do the same thing.

Answer:
The camera has a close-up scene mode, but for extremely close focus you will need to use a Macro lens. Nikon's macro lenses are called Micro-NIKKOR lenses and most of them will let you get so close that you can photograph objects at life-size. To read more about Macro lenses, read this article: http://www.nikonusa.com/Learn-And-E....Answer:

One thing to note about the Nikons staff answer. They are giving the approved list of SD cards able to be used on the D5000. This does not mean that other SD cards cannot be used. Sandisk recommends the 32gb Extreme SDHD which is not on the Nikon list. As far as I know, other SDHC card should work on the D5000, though it is always a case that you should find out as much about the product before you buy. I would first check your firmware first, even if it doesn't work it won't do any harm.Answer:

Since it has an F mount it can be attach to your camera. However, not all lenses can be used with a teleconverter. In general wide angle lenses or wide angle zoom lenses cannot be used. Also, lenses with relatively slow maximum apertures (slower than f2.8) cannot be used with teleconverters.Answer:
Unfortunatley the answer is no, no tc's will fit on this lens.

Answer:
What you need to do to achieve Bokeh in your images is use the maximum aperture on your camera's lens. Lenses that have f/stops of f/2.8 or wider (f/2, f/1.8, f/1.4) are ideal for use with this technique. With the aperture wide open, you can also increase the distance between your subject and the background to make it go out of focus more.To choose the aperture you want (wide open) use the camera in manual mode - where you will have to manually set the aperture and shutter speed, or aperture priority, where you set the aperture and the camera chooses the shutter speed.
Depending upon how much light is in the scene, you may also have to alter your ISO to be able to achieve the widest f/stop.
Answer:
Bokeh effect is nothing but the blurred part of the out-of-focus image. This effect is normally seen in the photography mostly around the light sources. This effect helps to focus on the object while making the background visually appealing.

Turn the mode dial from whatever you have it on to the icon that looks like a lightning bolt with an arrow but crossed out. Then flash won't pop up. But if the flash pops up the camera must think you need it, usually your pics will come out better when you listen to the camera when you are a starter.Jun 25, 2011 by

well, give the A program a try (aperture priority). :) most enthusiast or pro photographers don't use any other program besides M or A. or select one of the modes on the mode switch that shows no flash. (see your manual in that matter.)

Answer:
Yes- and I would recomend the 32 GB Extreme SDHC Cards. If you were getting a camera such as the D3s, I would recomend the pro one but the D5000 only shoots at 4fps so you don't need an extremely fast memory card. Just so you know the 32GB card will hold around 15 thousand photos on the D5000, I use an 8GB and its 3000 photo capacity is enough for me. Don't forget you can always dump it onto your computer!!Jun 25, 2011 by
