New EXPEED Image Processing ensures high-quality pictures with stunning color and sharpness.  Nikon's comprehensive digital imaging processing concept incorporates the know-how and technologies accumulated throughout our long history of photographic and digital imaging development. EXPEED is custom-tuned for COOLPIX. Applied optimized technologies render natural-looking pictures of incredible quality and quick response so you won’t miss that special moment.

Optical VR Image Stabilization compensates for camera shake to prevent blur producing clearer, sharper results in lower light or unsteady conditions. In addition, the benefits of Nikon’s VR system extend to faster framing on the monitor and smoother action when using the movie mode.

Smile Shutter and Blink Warning makes sure you’ll always catch the decisive moment when your subject smiles.  Blink warning will let you know when your subject’s eyes are closed so you can retake your picture.

Nikon Image Innovations include: In-Camera Red-Eye Fix™, which will automatically look for and fix most instances of red-eye. You may never see red-eyes again!  Face Priority AF is Nikon’s face-finding technology that quickly finds and focuses on up to five faces in a group portrait. D-Lighting will rescue those photos that are too dark for printing by enhancing the underexposed areas of the picture while not touching the properly exposed areas.

High Quality TV Movies with Sound is now just a press of a button away with your COOLPIX.  Record TV-quality movies with sound; duration is limited only by the available space on your SD/SDHC card.   Connect your camera to your TV and you have instant home-movies!

5x Optical Zoom-NIKKOR Glass Lens NIKKOR optics provide exceptional pictures. NIKKOR lenses are built on a proud heritage of producing precision camera optics that delivers superb color and razor-sharp results.

Incredible, Bright 2.7-inch High Resolution LCD makes it easy to compose and share your pictures with friends and family. In addition, the high-contrast and anti-reflection coating on the screen assist in clear viewing, even in direct sunlight.

Scene Auto Selector automatically recognizes the scene in your picture and adjusts the camera setting.  Just set the camera to the Scene Auto Selector and the camera changes the settings according to the scene you are taking a picture of, automatically!

Auto adjusts up to ISO 3200 that lets you keep shooting, even in low light creating new opportunities to take sharper, more natural-looking photos in low light conditions.

15 Scene Modes for optimized shooting in various settings. Choose from: Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Night Portrait, Party/Indoor, Beach/Snow, Sunset, Dusk/Dawn, Night Landscape, Close-up, Panorama Assist, Museum, Fireworks Show, Copy or Back Light modes.  Match your current shooting situation with one of these Scene Modes and the camera will make the necessary adjustments giving you an incredible picture, automatically.

Great camera for everyday use. I bought the blue version of this camera back in 2009 as a simple point and shoot camera. It takes great pictures in bright to average light. Lower light levels make for somewhat noisy pictures. I've taken this camera on many trips and it has never failed to give me great pictures. As long as I make sure I have the right setting I know I'll get the shot. Auto mode also works well but I like to select different scene modes based on what I'm shooting. This camera has a very simple and easy to follow menu system. The buttons are easy to push and don't feel cheap. The screen is big enough for me although the resolution is just okay the screen has an average 230k pixel count. This camera has a 5x zoom lens which for the time was good and for my needs is more than enough. Also its 10 mp sensor is also more than enough for me. The only thing that I never liked about this camera was the movie mode. Its only in 480p and you are stuck with digital zoom only in movie mode which isn't the best but atleast you don't get any motor noise while zooming. Battery life is great. I can get about 230 pictures without the flash and about 180ish with the flash. Overall for an older point and shoot I'm still happy with my purchase. I think I might upgrade to the S6300 down the line since its the same size and shoots video in 1080p with sterio sound. It also has a CMOS sensor which is much better than the older CCD sensor that this camera used. The S560 might just end up as my trusty backup camera. I have included some sample images taken with this camera. I have also taken pictures of the camera it self so you can see how new it still looks (taken with my D5100 with Nikon 40mm f/2.8G DX Micro Lens and SB-700 Speedlight). I've taken well over a thousand pictures with my S560 and it still works just like new. August 7, 2012
Absolutely loved this camera! I have owned many cameras in the past, and this camera has definitely been my favorite. It lasted me a little over two years. I am now in the process of looking for a new one, and it is hard to find one that matches the quality of this one. August 14, 2011
This Camera IS DA BOMB i absolutely love this camera the resolution is amazing and my videos come out great it is a truly great camera October 14, 2010
Best Little Camera I've Ever Owned I bought this camera specifically for my deployment to Iraq over a year ago and I returned a little over a month ago with this camera still in excellent cosmetic and operational condition. It was purchased as a bundle with a case, 4GB SD Card, and an extra battery for a great deal/price. I used it extensively in Iraq throughout the dust and sand storms without any issues or problems and always got great pictures from it regardless of light conditions with the "Auto" settings. The camera also has manual settings for more advanced users, which I am not. The details captured in the 10MP photos are unbelievable when zoomed in on a computer that would normally be too small to notice. The 5x optical zoom is excellent and the additional digital zoom is also pretty good with stable picture results, thanks to the Optical VR Image Stabilizer. The settings and options are easy to navigate through with some practice. I would suggest taking the time to experiment with all the different features and settings as “film for this camera is cheap” (SD/SDHC card). The video mode on the camera is mediocre, but then again, this is a “still” picture camera – not a true video camera. So, for those who want great video, I suggest purchasing an actual “video” camera. This camera is packed with all kinds of settings and features that were previously unavailable in these small compact cameras only a few years ago. I’m very happy with this “combat veteran” camera and look forward to using it for years to come. July 20, 2010
great camera i really like it and it really takes way good photos i ever seen you should try this camera out you will like it July 19, 2010

I had to order a backup battery so when I drain my stock battery I can keep shooting. The repacement looks exactly the same as the stock one (the EN-EL 11) but it says it is 1300 mAh instead of the EN-EL 11's 680mAh (it is still 3.7V). Will this work with the camera and charger or do I have to get one that is 680 mAh? Thanks.

Answer:
Be sure to use Nikon genuine battery. 1300 mAH has nothing to do with the 3.7V. It only decides how long battery can keep the camera running. 1300 mAH battery will run almost twice of 680 mAH battery provided the voltage is same & it is used in the same camera.

I have had my camera (Nikon Coolpix S560) for almost two years. I really enjoy this camera and was just wondering if this is something that is easily fixed, or is it not worth it and I should just purchase a new one? It allows me to take a picture, however I do not know what I am taking a picture of because the screen is black - and after I play it back to view the photos I have taken, the ones that displayed black when I took them are still black.

This model seems to have slower shutter speed especially in dim light. Hopefully the new firmware is able to resolve it.

Answer:
Slower shutter speed is par for the course im affriad its the way it works, it has to have a slower shutter to allow more light in in poorly lit conditions, having faster shutter speed would only cause your images to be dark, no amount of frimware can solve this. Only thing you can do if possible is to turn your iso up, this will give a faster shutter speed but on the downside your are increasing the chances of noise, you need to find a happy medium, alas most p&s's struggle in low light.

Nikon Transfer recognizes the camera but shows 0 photos on the camera. Windows Explorer (XP) also will not show the contents of the camera. I've also tried taking the SDHC card out and putting that in the card reader on my computer and it still won't recognize anything. Is this an issue with the card? I can take new photos just fine and all showup in playback mode on the camera.

What is going on? Every now and again it does work, but more often not. Can anyone help with this?
