This is the best ever! We bought this camera in Italy in 2008 while on vacation. The dealer explained the functions as the manual was not in English. It has been everywhere, is very dependable, and easy to use. Both of my daughters have later models of Coolpix which they enjoy, but my wife and I love our P50. September 1, 2011
My all around camera. I love this camera. I shoot in Manual Mode. The flash even adjusts! This camera has two aperatures for each focal length of the zoom! Great night shots in Incandescent. Even can set it on More Vivid! Just bought a D3000 so I can have more freedom with aperatures but the Coolpix has great freedom with shutter speeds! I started with a Nuvis II film point & shoot Advantix! Loved that one too.. December 6, 2010
Good Camera I love it. It's the best camera dollar for dollar. We take it everywhere and our pictures are awsome. August 11, 2012

I just had my beloved stolen! I left it at my church after taking pic's of the family after Easter service, it was found and put in the office for my father to pick up for me. Well as bad happens the office was broken into last night. I need to give the police and insurance dollar amounts, any help would be appreciated. This has been a Great Nikon camera! so so sad!

I am so frustrated. I need to take pictures in my kindergarten classroom of 35 children. Please help. I do take lots of pictures but am unable to take even a few at a time. I have tried several brands but same battery exhausted message appears. HELP! PLEASE! There must be some way I can take lots of pictures at a time.

Answer:
Its obvious from a little internet research that there is a problem with coolpix cameras, and you can replace with new batteries all you want, you can reset the camera, and still have the same problem. This is pretty disappointing in that I have been a loyal Nikon customer. The P50 is my third camera and I've bought two slr's for my daughter. I wish Nikon would fess up and fix this problem. It give me no confidence to replace it with another Nikon.

Answer:
To improve battery performance, select the type of battery currently inserted in the camera in the setup menu. Lithium batteries last the longest in the P50 but they may be a little expensive. Recharger batteries are second in line. Alkalines do not last long. The P50 Battery life information is below.
• Approx.140 shots with LR6 alkaline
• Approx.190 shots with ZR6 oxyride
• Approx. 580 shots with FR6 lithium
• Approx. 330 shots with Rechargeable Ni-MH Battery EN-MH1

Based on Camera and Imaging Products Association (CIPA)standards for measuring the life of camera batteries. Measured at 23 °C (73 °F); zoom adjusted with each shot, flash fired with every other shot, image quality set to [b Normal], image size set to [E 3264 × 2448]. Battery life may vary depending on shooting interval and length of time menus and images are displayed.

Answer:
By simply turning on your favorite battery powered device, you'll know. If it comes on, the battery has a charge, if not, it's discharged.

But the only way to know exactly how much of a charge is left in your battery is to use a simple battery or voltmeter. I use a $5 device for this.
