Good Overall Camera
I bought this camera looking for a nice compact camera that was a little better than a point and shoot. While it has no manual mode like i would have hoped for it did have a lot of cool features. The camera is lightweight and comfortable to hold. I enjoyed that the "click wheel" could also be spun around, making it easy to go through large amounts of photos and change features easily.
PROS:
-Nice screen resolution and easy to navigate
-High detail in macro mode
-Average zoom
-Lightweight
-Fast start-up
-"Artsy" effects such as color selector(choose one color and have the rest of the picture appear in black & white) and soft during shooting : effects like miniature and fisheye after shooting
-Great camera for the price
CONS:
-No manual mode
-Flash is in an awkward location and can't be put down without being turned off and on again

Great Pocket Camera
Great, user friendly camera. Have to really try hard to get bad results. Best low light and back light performance ever experienced.
Only complaint: LCD screen scratches easily....plan on using a screen protector if you carry camera in your pocket or glove box

Great little camera
I bought this camera mainly for it's low-light ability and it's big zoom lens. I was not disappointed. Compact cameras I have had in the past drove me crazy with redeye issues. With this camera, most of the time you don't even need to use the flash. And when you do, there is a redeye reduction mode that gets rid of the redeye electronically instead of flashing an annoying red light to close the subject's pupils. And even in full flash mode I have not taken a single redeye picture yet. I am amazed by those who complain about where the flash is located and someone even suggested they put the flash on the front of the body. You have to realize that the farther the flash is from the lens, the less likely you are to get redeye pictures. And in this camera, the flash is located about as far from the lens as possible.

Superb image quality and impressive video in high HD
Bought this point and shoot camera as a back-up camera on days when I don't carry my DSLR camera and also on vacation. Great images from the start but when my wife got hold of it, she wouldn't let me have it anymore. She's using it to record high definition video of our trips. Great images on the screen. The only drawback is the lack of an external charger to charge the battery when carrying two or more batteries. Charger needed asap Nikon!!! Hear this?

Great all around camera....EVEN INDOOR SPORTS
I searched high and low before purchasing a new camera. I did not want to spend the money for a huge slr camera, but I wanted to take indoor volleyball pictures of my teenage daughters. I can put this camera on ISO 3200 and get great action shots. This works better than the sports setting on the camera. All the regular photos are just a bonus to this camera. I love it, and do not regreat my purchase one bit. And others are slightly jelous of my pictures, and the fact my camera fits in my pocket!

Realisticlly, is the differance in zoom VERY noticeable between the coolpixs8200 and the coolpixl500?
I like the features, size, weight, versitility, etc of the s8200 and it seems more up to date (but I don't necessarily understand ALL the tech terms)----yet the zoom ability is a very important part of my decision. I have my choice of this camera or the L500. On my old, orig. SLR, the differance between a 100mm lense and a 300mm lense is alot. Is the differance in digital zooms that significant?

I wanted a realistic comparison of the zoom capabilities of the Coolpix SR8200 and (I meant to say) the CoolpixP500---not the L500. You probably already figured that out, but just in case.....

I have tested both original battery and secondary battery with original transfer cable provided with camera, neither of them are charged with wall jack nor computer power source. How can I further troubleshoot this error?
I've purchased the camera in September 2011 and it is breaking my heart to think that I am not stuck with a very expensive paperweight because there's no other means to charge the battery.

I am looking to purchase this camera to replace my current out dated one. I use my camera A LOT being the mother of a small child so I need something with good battery life. I am reading a lot of reviews from people with problems with the batteries and charging the battery. It is my understanding that the battery must be charged in the camera, but I will be able to have a spare battery charged and able to change the battery as needed, correct? Also, what type of warranty does this camera carry? I read a disturbing review from someone stating that there was no warranty on the camera and it was not working within a month... making me hesitant to buy

Is there any plan to fix the slow focus issue, This is by far the slowest focusing camera I've used. I have missed several shots due to the camera not being able to focus. I use another camera with similar specs and it has no issue.

Does the camera only take video in the MOV format? If yes, is there a way to convert it to AVI or WMV???
The video's I have downloaded from the camera to my computer (running Vista# are almost totally un-viewable. They open with Quiktime and are tiled & distorted. The sound cuts in and out. I downloaded a free converter to go from MOV to AVI. The video looks great after that, but the sound lags behind and is off by 5 or more seconds by the end of a 1 minute video. Please help! I love the camera, but it is useless to me if the video does not work. I don't understand why Quiktime doesn't play the MOV video correctly. My old camera #Nikon Coolpix S600) records video in the AVI format and works perfectly.

Check to that you did not adjust or change the exposure compensation which has a range of +/-2. If you have checked this and other settings and still can not get the correct exposure you can always reset the camera settings to the default values. Page 80 of the user manual explains how to do this.1. Select the MENU button.
2. Select the wrench.
3. Select RESET ALL.
Good luck.
