One of the great features of the Nikon Coolpix series of cameras is the ability to pre-focus on the subject and give an audible confirmation that the subject is in focus, metered, and the camera is ready to activate the shutter immediately when you fully depress the shutter button. Shutter-lag is really a problem in the past and not much of a concern in the latest Coolpix models. Many of the models even offer face-detection technology to ensure that your subject's smiling face is the area of focus, further increasing the number of "keeper" shots from your camera.
