COOLPIX S6200 3.9 5 77 77
I updated from CoolpixS610 to S6200 I had a Coolpixs610, I took over 20,000 photos with it in 3 years. It was time for an upgrade. The Coolpix S6200 is a PERFECT replacement! Thank You Nikon for keeping same format in battery & cables. Great job! I LOVE the panorama assist, feature! Not much into video. My main focus is closeup or very far away subjects. This zoom is awsome! Also, I take allot of indoor perfromance photos. This camera works great for all the features I need for a point & shoot. I have 2 other camers I use for 'real' setup shots, but this is quick & easy to show me what I need for the other cameras! Thanks! I LOVE IT! November 22, 2011
Great Camera I recently washed by old Coolpix in the washer and decided to buy this one. I love that it is 16MP and thee 10x zoom is great. The previous review said the pictures were grainy... I haven't had that problem at all. Perhaps it was just a lemon? This is an easy to use and easy to carry camera. I would reccomend it to anyone who doesn't want a bulky camera and dont' want to spend tons of money for great pictures and videos. October 7, 2011
Awesome and Stylish I am in love with S6200.I have in red and so clear pictures,my first time with Nikon.I love this camera.Wonderful results and stylish looks with 10 Optical Zoom. September 14, 2011
Awesome Camera I lost my S220 at the zoo and replaced it with the S6000, which personally, I didn't feel was a good fit for what I wanted. Then I saw the S6200 and it was love at first sight...for me. It takes great pictures with fantastic clarity. Being a casual photographer Nikon's point and shoot series has, more often than not, helped provide me with not only a wide selection of choices to compare with but also a great price for the quality camera I need. September 13, 2011
products greatness I think the COOOLPIX S6000 is great because it allows you to stream videos just like that! September 10, 2011
It is most efficient for its size, does not ask anything to a professional photo camera zoom works better than many other cameras on the market (I compared with 5 of following brands) and for its HD video, is of excellent quality, exceeds the expectations for any commercial camera. July 29, 2012
March 23, 2012
yeeeeep!!!!! is cool!!! yeeeeeep !!!!! is cool!!! too noise when lens open.!!!! August 18, 2012
Good little point and shot camera I have lost two similar cameras on vacation, one at the Nuremberg train station and the second at the Vatican. My third one demonstrates how they have improved and simplified the cameras. Have a SLR as my primary camera but this adds a lot of convenience and capability in a small package. The only feature I don't like is the rotary motion of the multi function selector. This cumbersome and prone to accidents. Love the 10X zoom (main reason I bought the camera) Overall it is a great product. August 5, 2012
Great With a Few Issues I got this camera for Christmas 2011. I honestly LOVED it!!! The zoom was great, and the pictures were great quality. However, in early May 2012, it started having "Lens Errors". I had yet to drop it or misuse it, and always kept it in its protective case. I had no idea what was going on! I went on a school trip to Washington D.C and couldn't use it because whenever I'd turn it on, the lens wouldn't come out and it would say "Lens Error". Or, I'd try to zoom in/out/ or turn it off and the lens wouldn't move. So, I called the Nikon customer service number and they said that I could send it in for repairs. Luckily, it is still under warranty so I won't have to pay for it! Customer service was great, and even though I had to pay to ship the camera to Nikon, if it gets repaired, it'll be worth it. I haven't heard from them yet, but it will hopefully be able to be repaired. Besides that, it's an overall great camera! I recommend it, just be careful with it. :) July 29, 2012
Good Camera we have had our coolpix for a couple of months. it takes great pictures and is very easy to use. i use a nikon slr camera so the coolpix is great for travel with its compact size. my wife slides it in her purse when we go to visit our grandson so we can capture photos of our time togehter. July 26, 2012
Great zoom! Has great zoom...wish it had a real view finder rather than just view screen. June 26, 2012
Slick and usable little guy! Okay so I needed a pocket every day shooter, because I always see something awesome to shoot. (Mostly cars, nature, nice setting sun, something that catches my eye, etc) This camera does the trick well. It boots up pretty quickly and It stays "on" for a while without draining the battery. No flash shots work out decently. It does the whole face recognition, yada yada. It records pretty darn good video as well. (Better than my D3100 perhaps?) I just found the options on manipulating your photos later, which can add some fun to the mix as well. 1 PROBLEM though with the camera I MUST state though is that at night when I am trying to take pictures, any LIGHT flare smears outward as if there is Vaseline on the lens. It often requires me to check if my camera is smudged or something, but it's not. I move the camera around and the smudge is just here, this camera reads direct street lights and lamps and stuff quite poorly. It's just a very very unnatural and unhealthy looking "halo" around direct lights. Is my camera the only one with this problem? To try and get around it I try and position the camera in such a way that the lights are out of view, or the smear looks "tolerably artistic." To be honest it IS tolerable ... but you just have to be creative. But for a day through early evening camera, this is pretty darn good, and I won't give it up. :P June 25, 2012
Great small reasonable camera I really like this camera. It is very small and light. It fits easily in a pocket so it's harder to leave somewhere. Takes great pictures, especially when using the 10x zoom. Most of the shooting modes work easily once you learn how to use them. Cons: The manual is on a CD so it's hard to get help while traveling. The CD does not clearly discuss the favorite picture playback feature. It turns out that deleting a "favorite" picture, deletes it permanently from the camera. It looks like you can't more pictures out of the "favorite" albums. Also you can't use the slideshow feature for a favorite folder. May 29, 2012
Easy & Fun This is the second Coolpix camera for me. I thought the 6200 would have a better auto focus for a faster "point, click and shoot" , but it does require the seconds to focus or it won't take. This camera has face frames for the focus, which is a bit maddening at times. Also, the lens cover will "stick" on this camera at times, so if it doesn't open all the way I have to give it a little help. Overall the size and ease of the camera is great for someone who likes to carry a camera at all times. February 4, 2012
Coolpix S6200: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Fact is, the S6200 isn''t ugly. Its compact yet solid feeling. Pretty good battery life and photo quality. Plenty of shoot modes. Fairly easy to setup and start using right away. My only real dislikes is that without a viewfinder in some lighting conditions its more like point and pray. The recycle time - the time the camera is ready to take the next picture - is a bit long. When the USB camera is connect the camera sits a little awkwardly. What I would change: Maybe make it a bit more compact, faster recycle time and maybe put the USB connection on the side instead of the bottom. All in all a nice little camera. January 12, 2012
Need Owner's manual I wish you could get a printed copy of the owner's maual. It is a real pain having to run to your computer, load the CD, try to find the info you need and then go back and take the picture. If you print the manual out you have 8 X 11 sheets of paper, where do you store them: not to mention the expense of paper and ink. Not smart Nikon. Camera is not as user friendly as I had hoped. January 8, 2012
awesome camera in small body! Pros: small/sleek hd video recording zoom fun ways to personalize your pictures Cons: low whirring sound not the best in low light must have still subject auto focus isn't great December 25, 2011
August 11, 2013
Not what I expected I have a Nikon P90 and love it, so I thought I would try their point and shoot for my everyday use. Then ease of use was good, but the pictures were very grainy and seemed to be cloudy. Pictures taken inside had a reddish tint and with the flash, washed out. August 15, 2012
Fairly Good Camera but the Software is Lousy 2:05 PM 8/6/2012 The Nikon Coolpix S6200 camera is fairly good, however the focus ability is below average, especially for macro or anything closer than 1 meter. I installed the ViewNX 2 however I wasn't able to import (upload# any of my photos or videos as the entire window was grey and the start transfer button didn't work either. When I uninstalled it to fix this, a message came up saying that it couldn't find the server. Overall Nice Features In general the carmera has good features but I find the white balance is off when using "Auto" mode. Although there is the ability to create a custom white balance, I find that to be an inadequate solution. June 26, 2012
Clear and detailed pictures This camera does not live up to its expectation of a Nikon Camera. The pictures are clear and detailed. Unfortunately we have had two problems with the camera that is less than 30 days old. The lens cover does not always open fully causing the picture to be cut off. In addition the tiny cover on the bottom of the camera that you slide out of the way to plug in the cord is very flimsy and could break easily. March 6, 2012
Sorry Charlie.... We just bought this camera yesterday after reading all the hype about it for the past 3 weeks. We waited for this particular camera to be released since it sounded awesome. Well, unfortunately I'm returning it today. First thing you'll notice is the images on the screen are really grainy. Indoor shots weren't coming out very nice either. I took four shots back to back, and only one came out nice. Images come out blurred, grainy, and sometimes washed out. Not every picture was bad, but it took multiple shots to get one right. We futzed around with the settings, and not much helped. Macros is also pretty awful. I couldn't get any decent close ups without the image coming out blurred. For a point and shoot, this camera takes too much messing around with. There's a lot of wildlife where we live, and that's part of the reason we want a GOOD camera. I'm pretty sure that mama bear isn't going to hold still while I take multiple shots hoping for one good picture. This isn't an entirely horrible camera, but there's better one's out there that cost less. The s8100 and s9100 are the previous models, and seem to work much better. It's unfortunate, because I really thought this camera would be "the one", but I'm not going to spend over $200 for a camera I only kinda like. Maybe other people will have better luck with theirs, but this was my experience. I would highly suggest testing this camera before buying it. Also, make sure you buy it from somewhere that will make it easy if you decide to return it. No point in waiting 3 days for it to show up from an online seller, and then you have to ship it back. Boo. September 16, 2011
Mediocre I bought this camera to replace a dead Kodak pocket model that I used to carry with me at all times. The price was good, it was on sale, and I ilked the 16.2 MP. Under the right circumstances it does perform well, unfortunately the pictures are inconsistent with most of them leaning towards the bad. October 29, 2012
Thought I would love it! Long story short ... I LOVE taking pics and had a point and shoot that was falling apart. So I got this as a gift. In early December. While learning the new camera I took several pics and video's. But since the holidays I had not downloaded to the computer. Finally got that done and all the video's were jerky. After lots of trouble shooting we finally sent it back to Nikon for repair. So I guess the jury is out for now. We will see what becomes of this.... I really want this camera to work because it is a step up from my old one. On a positive note Nikon has been helpful and it's still under warranty. March 10, 2012
does not interface with my mac or pc good camera so far that is easy to use and takes great pic's. If I had know that how difficult it was to get my computer to read the camera I would have bought something else. January 5, 2012
Decent Camera While It Worked This was a pretty good camera. Focus is pretty average for speed and clarity but sometimes takes a bit of effort to get the camera to focus on the subject. Still, I enjoyed shooting with this camera and got some really great shots during a road trip. It was portable, kept charge well, and had a decent response time. The display is of good quality and makes it easy to analyze your shots quickly. Then it died. The battery ran low, and I plugged it in to recharge. Instead, the light flashed rapidly indicating it was in data transfer mode rather than charging. I attempted to troubleshoot the issue but was unsuccessful. I plugged the camera's usb cable into the provided wall adapter, assuming this would resolve the issue. Instead, the camera proceeded to attempt data transfer with the electrical grid. After taking all possible troubleshooting steps, I switched to the spare (3rd party) battery that Best Buy had bundled with the camera as the OEM battery was entirely drained. I once again attempted to troubleshoot, including attempting to eject the device from Windows, disabling the USB port it was connected to (which the camera didn't seem to mind - it continued to flash the data light rapidly), and briefly tried another USB cable I had on hand. Unfortunately, do to various circumstances, I did not have a chance to address this issue during the warranty period - and there's no way I'm paying more for a camera that worked for such a short time. May 22, 2014
I have had this camera for less than a year and now it wont even turn on. I had the battery tested and they confirmed the battery was fine, its the camera. I kept this camera in a case, it was never dropped and never got wet. I have no idea why it wont rurn on anymore. Not happy!! February 2, 2013

Answer:
This happened to us as well. We contacted Costco (where it was purchased) who offers free extended service plans of the products they sell. They walked me through a fix, which worked for us.

1. Hold power button for 60 seconds.
2. Done.

Apparently, it resets the internal computer.

Make sure you are using the wall charger that came with it. It needs more power than an average charger like a iPhone or other USB standard charger.

Answer:
Disconnect the USB cable or unplug the Charging AC adapter and correctly connect it again, or try a back up battery. Also, connect the USB to another computer in order to charge the battery. If the problem persists you will need to send the camera and the charger to be evaluated.

I am trying to update the firmware from 1.0 to 1.1.

I have the firmware bin file on the root of the card.
I turn on the camera and go into the Menu.
I select Settings and Firmware (at the very bottom).
I hit OK and it shows the firmware version (1.0).

Why can't I update it? I get no prompt for updating it.

I am having a problem with the battery being exhausted prematurely and I understand this update should resolve that.

Please help.

Answer:
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY!

Copy the Firmware FOLDER to the card, not the bin file.

The camera does not recognize the bin file. It only recognizes a FOLDER called FIRMWARE and THEN it looks inside that folder for the bin file.

Once it recognizes the Firmware Folder (with bin file in it), it will ask to do the update.

Just follow prompts at that time.

Answer:
I haven't found a selection where you can take fisheye photos, but you can change your photos to a fisheye effect. After taking your pic, go to playback and select menu. Under the menu options go to filter effects - there are a few options in addition to fisheye, like color select and painting, soft, etc. Play around with some of them. It's fun. Good luck hope you enjoy your camera.

No printed manual came with this camera. I realize that I can print off a copy from the software included, but I would rather not cart around an 8 x 11 unbound manual. My prior Coolpix camera included a nice little manual that I could put into my camera bag and carry with me on my trips. Why doesn't this newer version include a usable manual????

Answer:
The user's manuals for COOLPIX models come in a CD on PDF format with printing rights. You can print it in any size you want. You can also download it from our website.
