Charging battery
The camera worked great and easy to use. However, the first time I tried to charge the battery it would not charge and the camera froze up. Had to exchange it for another one, hope it will charge.

Overall decent
I love the COOLPIX family for taking up-close flower photos. Unfortunately, this one isn't up to par with macro settings. The rest of the features so far seem to be alright, but not any better or more exceptional than other cameras.

Camera was broken when I purchased it.
I purchased this camera from WalMart. It was broken when I opened it, but I put it on the shelf and didn't return it within the allotted time (2 weeks, I think). WalMart would not take it back. I have sent it to you (Nikon) to have repaired. I wanted a much simpler camera and would very much rather have my money refunded than have it fixed - again it was broken when I took it out of the box.

Not what I expected
If you want to take all pictures where the subject is 3 feet away, then this is your camera. Otherwise the results are not good at all. The picture is fuzzy and unpredictable at all other times.

Video failed to work properly
I made several little videos with this camera. I did not like the results. On the first videos, the audio dropped out about 10 seconds before the video ended. Then recently I made a video and when played back, the audio preceded the video. It was upsetting. Someone said that I needed to use a SanDisk memory card (I was using a PNY 8GB). I have bought a SanDisk card and need to see if that solved the problem.

Minor problems
I bought my Nikon to take on vacation this year.. I've had trouble with the lens and it has currently been returned for repairs. However, it takes good pictures and has some nice features. I really use the picture cropping a lot so I can zoom in on my grandson and get close ups. It doesn't do well in low light conditions.

Malfunction in first week
The lens would not operate after onlu 4 days. Do not know why but started working on it's own. Holding my breath that it continues to work and I do not have to be inconvienced with sending it back at my expense.

average
takes good close up pictures. The only aspect i don't like is that the setting dusk/dawn & night pictures are orange and blurry and terrible for me. it turns the flash off and its just ick. but he flash works good at night. i love how its lightweight and many picture settings.

not my best pictures
I had a sony until I got this Nikon, it was easier to use and I got better results. I am sure it is the operator and it will imporve. I do like the looks and the size. It is nice not to have to replace batteries.

Not a great camera!!
Overall this camera is really simple to use. I purchased this camera because it was smaller than my other camera and easy to handle. I liked that it was 14 megapixels. However, if I am not up close to the object I am taking a picture of the photo is either blurry, grainy, or dark. I have tried to change all of the settings and even reset all the settings, NOTHING seems to work. Also I find that when ever I zoom in on something I get the same results if not worse. This was my first Nikon and I am not impressed.

Constantly blured pictures without flash
Bought this camera because of the real high iso rating and cannot get a sharp picture without the flash. Very dispointed!

Not Good for shot with Movement
Anytime there is movement or if you don't use the flash, it is difficult to get good shots. Takes Lousy Sport shots

Not a great Nikon
I have many problems with this camera. For one I can't seem to get it to focus on my subject, it always wants to focus on something behind them. The main reason I bought this camera was for times when I don't really want to lug my DSLR around with me, like when we go to dinner with friends. This camera does not perform well in low light/flash situations.

Nice Camera good pictures SOMETIMES
I bought this camera back in November 2011 and i was able to upload pictures fine onto my computer with the USB cord. Now here it is December literally only a month later and I cant upload pictures. I installed that ViewNX2 or whatever onto my computer and still nothing. I registers for that myphototown stuff and nope nothing. I emailed Nikon service & support and I have yet to get a response back from them. I am disappointed with this part of the camera. If anyone knows how to go about fixing this please let me know.

Blurry pictures
I bought this in June 2011, my outdoor pictures were beautiful. I had some major events all fall and had lots of trouble with the camera. My indoor pictures were blurry, or it took 20-35 seconds for the flash to go off and then my battery would go dead. After less than six months with this camera, the battery no longer charges. After seeing the price to replace, I am going to see Nikon can help. This is my first Nikon camera.

Disappointment
Bought the camera in mid-September. Pictures are just OK, be prepared to spend a lot of time reviewing and deleting blurry pics. After just 2 1/2 months of use, it would no longer charge. It is currently in for repairs under warranty; however, I have a feeling if it breaks again I will replace -vs- repair as the quality of the pictures and camera itself is not what I expected of Nikon (first time Nikon buyer).

Still waiting to here from them on the 50 print, as it was not in kit.
Used camera only once and downloaded photos to PC. Takes nice pictures, have not used move yet.

Disappointed
Unfortunately, I have already sent it back to the manufacturer for repairs. The lens grinds when
you turn the camera on. It has been gone for well over 2 weeks. I missed having it for a wedding this weekend.

this product is subject to lens problems
after only 3 months from purchasing the shutter got stuck! i was on vacation and i had to buy another camera. However the Nikon service dept. seems to be excellent, and they are going to fix it for free (under warranty)

I had the Nikon camera for a month when the battery died. I tried to charge it, and the camera would not hold a charge. I called the Nikon service desk about what to do, but they could not help. I had to end up sending my camera in to get it fixed, and not only did I have to pay shipping (over $20), but the product also took over a month to be repaired and returned to me. I was disappointed to miss a lot of photo opportunities in the interim.

Nice Pictures/Bad Customer Service
I had the camera for 3 months 6 days, so I could not return to store as it was past 90 days. The first time I went to load pictures onto the computer, the cord to transfer pics would not fit in the outlet on the camera. I was told to send it in to Nikon. Repair bill was over $100. I would not buy another Nikon camera.

well I thought this was a pretty good camera until it broke. I have only had it 2 months and I had to mail it in to be fixed already. So I am not very happy. for what I spent on this camera it should last longer then 2 months.

I have never been so unhappy with a product before in my life. I have a Nikon D60 and wouldnt trade for anything else, but this specific camera was absolutely horrible. Aside from the mediocre quality of the photographs, the delay between being able to take photos was irritating.
I still love Nikon, but this was a disappointment...

The product has great appearance but...........
Picture quality is very disappointing. Could not even enlarge shots to a 5x7 without losing significant clarity and detail. Flash photography is dismal at best. Not reliable to take consistently acceptable shots. Using the automatic setting, the flash performs poorly under all circumstances. With flash "on" there is some improvement as long as you don't shoot more that 8 feet.

The Story How the Birthday Gift Became a Hassle
Bought this camera as a birthday gift for my sister, and sent it to Russia. It turns out, the pictures are blurry and foggy, shutter will get stuck once every 5-10 times (not critical, but this is a new camera). Unfortunately, did not check the camera before sending it. Long story short - after 2 hours on the phone with India, representative concluded that the camera needs to be serviced/replaced and advised me to ship it back to US. After calculating the cost of shipping I've decided that I've wasted that money.
So if you want to get a small camera - get a Sony CyberShot. This is the camera of choice for parties or as pocket camera, I also have Nikon's D50 SLR, and love it.

This appears to be an issue with this camera. I just called today to Nikon and they said it was my adapter wasn't working. So I have to mail it back to them at my cost they said, even though it is under manufacturer warranty. Call them. Please verify that that you have the correct option selected for the Charge by computer, MENU > SETUP MENU > Charge by Computer. Also, try it with a backup battery. once the date and time is on the picture when it is taken, it cannot be taken off. You must go to the settings menu prior to taking the photo and turn it off.One option is photo shop, but would be time consuming.

Error occured during installation of ViewNx2 software cd in PC!!!
During installation of the cd supplied with nikon coolpix s3100 digital camera when view nx2 is installing after some time "ClvActv- Initializefile is not found" - this error has come for 3 times... Why?? But when I click on the Ok messsage for 3 times the installation is done & images also be tranfered through usb port. Your main problem is not having enough RAM, the minimum requirement is 768mb with a recommended 1gb, so with your 512mb that is just not enough, time for an upgrade..1 year ago

On the round button with the "ok" in the middle of it, click the top of that circle where the icon looks like a squiggly arrow(its the flash icon), it opens the flash settings, and the third one down with a circle and line going through flash icon, is the setting to turn off the flash.Answer:
