This camera performs.
I bought this camera because my friend had it and I reallly liked the pictures she had taken. It has performed extremely well in all situations: Shuttle launch video, riding video, bands, flowers, birds, rain, etc. I'm convinced of its construction quality because it flew out of my hand on a recent trike ride and ended up in the middle of the road. I lost the battery door and the battery but not the SD which was loaded with pictures. I bought a new battery, charged it up, downloaded my pictures, took the camera through all its settings and added a little duck tape for the battery door. It works like new but looks like junk. I will likely spring for another Coolpix in the future because I really like the size and quality of the photes. Thanks NIKON.

The best features on a camera.
The new Nikon is amazing. It has all features a camera needs. I went to Niagara Falls with the camera and the footage it took was fabulous. Best Camera created by Nikon so far.

Fantastic, Fun Camera
This camera was great right out of the box. I previously owned a Nikon CoolPix. After 10 years of happily using it, it became possessed and started turning itself on and off, repeatedly. I really wanted another CoolPix, since I thought that my old one was so good and had served me for so long. I shopped around and found the S3100. I jumped when I saw the price and features. It's so easy that you could use it without doing any reading to discover everything else special that it can do. I don't understand the few negative reviewers' comments. This camera can't take a bad picture. I used it for photos for a business proposal, and everyone was so impressed with the pictures even when printed with a color laser printer on plain bond paper. It's fun and easy to take great pictures. It's such a good buy for a fantastic price. It's one of the best buys I've made all year.

With the S3100, as far as I am aware you do not have shutter priority or manual setting. The different scene modes will change the speed. So sport will be fast and night time will be slow etc. You need a more expensive camera to set the shutter speed manually,
After I take a picture. the picture display states for little be. I think is for 10sec. I don't like that way I want it to change to 2 or 3sec.

The maximum file size for a single movie is 2GB or the maximum movie length for a single movie is 29 minutes, even when there is sufficient free space on the memory card for longer recording.

The camera comes with the user’s manual in a CD with printing rights.
I purchases Nikon CoolPIX S3100 from Singapore Intl Airport few months back. It worked well for sometime, then the flash started not working. I have tried 'reset all' option from the menu, still no luck.

well, whenever i try to film at 720p or vga it records for about 2 seconds and gives that error and then all other options crash just with that error appearing on the screen so i have no other option than to reset my camera
however it records fine on qvga
and i guess the memory card is just fine because i use the camera for pictures regularly and it never gives me any trouble!

I have a small Nikon Coolpix 3100. I tried to use it at a concert recently where using a flash was prohibited. All my pics turned out blurry. I put it on nightscape scene but didn't help. Any other suggestions/settings for low light concert shots??

How to turn off the battery icon on the display during playback.
When I do play the pics out of the camera, in my case, plugged on a DVD recorder standalone, it creates a DVD with images but it will show the battery display status at all times on the recorded media.
Is there any way I can turn that off so the slideshow I record out of the camera straight to a DVD recorder doesn't show it?
