An excellent camera for all-around purposes.
The one short-coming for the L120 is the lack of a printed manual. The only available manual is on CD and cannot use it when in the field. So far has taken excellent pictures in all the modes I have tried including flash. Have not yet tried the video. Still have 2 Nikon SLR film cameras.

This is a great camera!
I've had this camera for only about 1 week and it is the best decision I've ever made! The sports mode is fabulous and the close up is the best ever. I'm a young photographer, and I haven't had a lot of experience with cameras, but this one is great! I recently brought my camera to a community park, and caught some amazing pictures! One thing I don't like about this camera, (But what's not to love?) is that it doesn't work good in low light. Sometimes the flash drowns out pictures, but other then that it's a great camera for a great price! The features are great, and I think i'll be keeping it for a long time. The cover is nice and sturdy, and easy to open. The grip is amazing, and I hope whomever reads this is going to buy it. Mine's red, by the way.

Well worth it!
This is my first Nikon and I've had my L120 for about a week now - I love it! During the daylight hours, the pictures are just incredible, even at full optical zoom!
I took my new camera to a MLB game this past weekend and I captured some amazing shots. I also went to my local speedway and took some pictures there as well.
This camera is fast between shots, even with the flash on. The colors are bright and crisp and the detail is awesome. The zoom is just fantastic. You could literally see the faces of the guys playing in the outfield.
I love the sports continuous mode. Even though the pictures taken are only 3 megapixels, they still come out looking great. It works wonders when I'm trying capture cars going about 100 mph.
The only downside is that this camera does not do so well in low-light situations but that's where the flash comes in handy. The flash is kind of bright but it doesn't wash out the faces of the people you're trying to take a picture of.
The battery life is pretty good as well. The alkaline batteries that came with it lasted for about 600 pictures before I had to change them and the rechargeable ones I bought with it held out for almost 500 pictures.
I attached a few pictures but they look much better when they're at full size.
I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone looking for a good megazoom that has a decent battery life and clear pictures.

Must Read
Well I got mine at Colonail Photo and Hobby in Orlando. The reqasonbeing is none of the other stores had the experience sales staff totell me about the different cameras.
I was so thankful for the reviews on here I had walked out with the Nikon 8100 but about an hour later returnedit for this one. I never tookit out of the box.
The only reason I was unsure ofthis camera is the AA requirements, I was not sure I wanted to goback through that again. As I had a Fuji that did that with the AA.
But I am so glad I did. The camera is awesome indeed love the features as well. I got the bronze color as well.

A great camera.
In the upper segment of the point-and-shoot this camera is probably tops, certainly high up. What differentiate it from the competitors are the incredible 21X zoom and the logical and very convenient choice of controls. On the negative side I would mention the difficulty of controlling the magnification at the lower end.
June 23, 2011
Nice camera with a great price
The camera does everything I wanted it to do then some. Takes great pictures. The only thing that would make this perfect would be a rechargable battery pack like other cameras have. Excellent zoom.
June 20, 2011
Camera has plenty of zoom!!
I finally have a camera that will take pics of my granddaughter on stage with me sitting in the audience!!!! I love the fact that this Nikon is very easy to operate and understand since I am only 73 years young!!! Just love it!

Great camera for the features, and price.
What an excellent product. Ready to go right out of the box. Easy to use, but has great features for the more advanced shooter.
Highly recommend this camera. Thanks Nikon!
June 13, 2011
great
I really like the telephoto and the vibration damper. Lets you take real telephoto pictures without the blur. My only wish would be that it would include the ac adapter so it would save the batteries when downloading pictures or just playing around with it while trying to learn about all the stuff it will do. :-)
June 13, 2011
Excellent if you want this size.
When I got it I decided it was too big so I bought another one (cost more) which will fit in my purse and I'm giving this one to either my son or daughter.

tip
I've worked with many cameras but this camera is by far the easiest and one of the best I've worked with.Make sure you put the movie options to HD 720p for best results.

My First Nikon and I love it.
I love this camera. Very easy to use. If you have issues with it I would suggest reading the manual. It helps a lot. I had issues at first. They were blurry, but I got the hang of it after a while. Still learning. I like the price and the features. (especially the black and white photos!) The video quality is not bad. I don't like using the flash too much as I think the better quality photos come out during the day. I have only owned Kodak cameras all of my life and I have definitely found a new and better favorite. You can hook up the camera to the tv and view videos you've recorded on the camera, or view a slide show. To take higher ISO pictures you would have to reduce your camera setting to 3 megapixel. The only con is that I don't use Nikon rechargeable batteries. My camera dies without notice. It shows full battery then it says "battery exhausted" then it shuts off. So I keep extras just incase. I'm not too excited about the night shots but they are not horrible. I guess I need more practice.
June 11, 2011
Excellent quality pictures.
This camera is simply amazing! I would recomend reading the manual and playing around with the options a bit before really using it. The "mode" that comes on when you first use the camera is not the mode I would recomend using for everyday shots. I zoomed all the way in to my daughter playing in the pool and the picture was so crisp that you can see water droplets on her forhead. Works extremely well in low or bad indoor lighting as well. I returned a FujiFilm Finepix I had bought similar to this, and there is no comparision, this camera is FAR better, and produces FAR better pictures.

Love this camera
Received this as a Mother's Day gift. BEST GIFT EVER. Takes AWESOME pictures and VERY easy to use. My dog is not happy that I got it. :^)

Wow!
I think I found my camera! even tough its not considered as DSLR.....I rather use this coolpix because its much more easier to use. (I'm just an amateur) :D so for those amateur photographers go go go!: D

I haven't had it long but from what I've used it I LOVE it - very simple to use - great pictures - love the zoom. Can't wait to use it more !

Great Photos
I love my new L120!!! It is way better than my older camera!! I love photography and the L120 is affordable but still takes awesome photos and it also is a great camera to start with! I hope to one day get a better camera but the L120 is a great beginners camera!

Love love love it!!!!
Love love love it!!!! Easy and fun to use. Takes amazingly crisp pictures. Has an amazing zoom for sport action shots. Only down fall is it only lasts as long as it's battery source. Used it (a lot) and played with it's settings from 9am to 5 pm and took over 200 photos and videos , and did playbacks before it died. my only comment is buy this camera and some rechargeable batteries.
May 30, 2011
Excellent camera for the price.
I have a Nikon D100 and several expensive Nikor lenses. This little camera actually takes better "snapshots" than the D100.
May 25, 2011
I found the picture to be very sharp and clear. The light is adjusted automatically for a good picture. The 21x zoom is amazing...it brings wildlife up close for hard to get shots. When I use the maximum zoom, it is so sensitive that a tripod would be best to use to control movement.
May 25, 2011
Great camera , low price
Haven't used all features yet - probably never will. Wanted long zoom - this one has 21X optical. The most outstanding thing I've seen yet about this camera is the image stabilization. I've taken pics all the way out to 21X using only the neck strap as a manual "stabilizer". When you press the focus/"shutter release", the pic locks in rock steady. I have pics taken all the way to approximately half way into the digital zoom (equivalent of probably 45X) and pics are very clear, all without a tripod! May never need a tripod with this camera! Fantastic, Nikon!

Great for the Artist/Family needing a good camera
For the price, this is the best compromise between an easy to use digital camera for family pictures, and a good Digital SLR for better photography of reference material for artwork.
As an amateur artist, I intend to use the CoolPix L120 to take pictures of items I intend to draw, paint and sculpt. I don't always need the features of an SLR type camera (nor can I afford those right now either), but I certainly can use many of the more advanced features this camera has over my older camera. The resolution of 14 Mega Pixels makes for great detail in a fairly reasonably priced package for this purpose.
For my main use, however, I just keep the picture size down to about 5 Mega Pixels, and its so easy to do. This allows my wife and I to take more pictures of our children and family here in Alaska to send to relatives! Being able to easily navigate the menus and switch between the two makes for a great experience! The use of standard AA batteries is an added bonus, as we don't always have an outlet handy to recharge a camera, but almost certainly can find AA batteries to use.

Hands down best camera i have ever owned
My family and I have enjoyed this product so much.
We have taken many nature walks and now we can take great pictures of the nature while we walk.
We have gone to many sporting events since we purchased the camera and the pictures we are able to take are amazing, all of the scene settings are great to use, the video and sound are great as well.

Great for beginners!
I absolutely love this camera! I recently moved to a lake and spend lots of time watching the "lake life"... I wanted to be able to take really nice, close up pictues of the wildlife. I purchased a more expensive camera but it turned out to be way to advanced for me, too many things to self adjust to get the pictures I wanted. I returned it and purchased my Coolpix L120 and could not be happier with it. The zoom is incredible! I have amazing pictures of wildlife & nature, as if I were standing right next to them, sunrises and moon shots over the lake that are gorgeous, and just everyday pictures that are so clear. For someone who has pretty much no idea what they are doing, but wants instant gratification when taking pictures...this is the camera for you!

Awsome Camera for the beginer
I have to say I never thought I would ever afford a good looking Nikon and this camera turned out to be very affordable and very easy to use for the novice photographer. The features that are in this camera are easy to set the auto face and focus are awesome. We have only used this camera for about a month and a half it takes the high quality photos you never thought you could take.

Great camera for the price
Easy to learn. Wife took 300 images over the weekend. Sharp.
May 23, 2011
its a fantastic camera with a great Macro Mode and incredible Panorama that let you take 360degrees photo without defect on it.
The high zoom level was incredible for my friends when I take a huge photo of Moon.
Ease of use and low price with the best body quality and high resolution LCD satisfy everyone.
May 23, 2011
I have only had my Nikon Coolpix L-120 for about a week, but i can already tell its everything i wanted! After using Nikons 8700, the L-120 is much faster and easer! I love the 3"dis.and the image stab. at full zoom! With AA-batt. and the SD-card with this cameras features, it makes taking pics of wildlife lots of fun! I would recommend the L-120 for anyone who wants great clear pics!

Someone said he recorded 30 min of video with his 4 Gb sd card, and with more space on the card could record more. That is not true, the limit is 30 min for each video, even if you have a 32 Gb sd card, you can not record a video larger than 29 min 59 seconds.

Thanks for the replies. After I posted I did find the answer. a Class6 is the minimum required for recording uninterrupted high quality video settings. if you run a lower class card there is a risk of the video stopping when the card can no longer keep up.Jun 24, 2011 by

I just got the 4GB card for this camera. It holds about 1500 pictures and 29 minutes of video. If you want more video than just 29 minutes, than you should probably use a 6 or 10 GB card.Jun 23, 2011 by

There are a wide variety of tripods in a wide price range. The camera has an industry standard 1/4" female threaded receiver. Any tripod with a standard 1/4" bolt for mounting a camera will work. The individual characteristics of the tripod are user choice based on application. You may wish to consult a local camera store to determine the tripod features most suitable for your application.May 31, 2012 by

Nikon COOLPIX L120 Review
by Mike FlacyAugust 2011
Mike Flacy posted his review of the Nikon COOLPIX L120 on the Steve’s Digicams’ website, noting its versatility, large zoom range and rich feature set. Flacy said the L120 offers “a plethora of selectable Scene Modes.” He noted that the L120 is built well, with well designed controls that are easily accessible, and simple enough for anyone to use. He added that the video mode “is a breeze to use.” Flacy concluded by saying “The Nikon COOLPIX L120 is a very appealing compact super-zoom,” adding, “I think you’ll enjoy the photos it produces.”
