Excellent Camera My dad bought this camera for my birthday. I have used it constantly now for about 6 months. I have shot amazing photos and great videos. This camera replaced my old film camera. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants to have a great looking camera, great photos, and videos. July 15, 2012
A HORRIBLE camera!!!! I would give it NO STARS if I could. I purchased 2 of these cameras and within a few months BOTH cameras broke--the display showed that there was a LENS ERROR. I then sent both back to Nikon for repair under warranty. Some 2 months after they were returned, they both broke AGAIN--displaying the same LENS ERROR code. Then Nikon wanted to charge me to repair them. A HORRIBLE experience. I would stay away from this model. If you check the internet for Coolpix S8100 and type in LENS ERROR, you will see all the nightmares. Consider yourself warned. July 15, 2012
good camera... REALLY GOOD CAMERA oh my gosh my dad bought me this camera for christmas and it was the best camera ever! it has all the things i need to take pictures of vacations and important stuff. i love this camera. i treat it dearly and i love it like its some precious artifact. love it!!!!!!!!! July 7, 2012
good camera, but the price is very high i bought this camera eight months back, quality is good but taking time to save the photo when you take the pic with flash, compare to other camera's this picture quality is good. June 28, 2012
VERY DISAPPOINTED with this camera! I purchased this camera 12/24/10. I was happy with the picture quality the few times I used it (probably half a dozen times, it mostly sat in a drawer). When I went to use it a couple weeks ago it wouldn't turn on. I ordered 2 new batteries & still nothing. I sent it to Nikon and was informed it would cost $105.24 to repair It's not like I wore it out, or dropped it, it just died. They didn't even say what was wrong with it, just a "Rank B2” repair. It appears from other reviews that this camera has some serious defects. Shame on Nikon for not offering a cheaper fix. This camera cost us $220. WHY ON EARTH would I throw another $100 at this camera? I was upgrading when I purchased it & Nikon had a good reputation. The camera it replaced had been dropped & the hinge on the door that held the SD card broke. It still worked though! In fact EVERY CAMERA I have ever owned STILL WORKS except for this one. Since Nikon doesn't care about customer satisfaction, the only recourse I have is to let others know about my experience....which I intend to do through every social media outlet available to me. I just ordered a new camera with similar options for less than they wanted for the repair and I will have another year warranty. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CAMERA unless you intend it to be a disposable one. I will never buy another Nikon product. May 9, 2012

We tried reloading the View NX2 program, but the transfer doesn't start. Is there any way we can fix this problem and use our camera to transfer images again with a download or patch or do we need an entirely new CD?

In auto on a cloudy day the ISO bumps up but shutter speeds are still slow at 1/30, 1/60 which mostly renders blurry pics. These automatic slow shutter speeds are not able to capture sharp pics! Is this an inherent design defect, and how can I remedy this situation to get a shutter speed "for a HAND HELD camera"? VR is on, Motion detection is on, etc.,,,

I now realize there are two focusing methods. One the Single Focus and the other Auto Focus. In Single focus, when zooming how to you define what the camera focuses on? I shot a concert and for the first take everything was fine and in focus. Turned it off picked it up to shoot another shot, trying to reframe the shot but only realized after viewing that it never succeeded in focusing on the performers. What is the best strategy for using the two focusing methods and how best to use them to accomplish the all critical task of focusing? Thanks for your help.

My Coolpix S8100 is supposed to be able to print from a PictBridge-enabled printer, but I can't even get the PictBridge logo to show up when it's connected to such a printer. My "Charge by Computer" setting is OFF, as suggested. No Pictbridge image shows up when I connect my powered-off camera to a powered-on printer.

I used Nikon Transfer 2 in August and it worked fine. Tried again today and after it finished, the new pictures did not show up. Have double and triple checked primary destination and still no luck. I even made a new file folder, but it didn't show up. The numbering sequence did increase when I was done implying it worked. Just can't find the photos. Any suggestions?

I just purchased the S8100 today (with a SanDisk 8gb sdhc card) and after charging the battery and turning it on, I went to adjust the white balance and switch to incandescent, and the screen flickered from what appeared to be normal, to one with a bright blue tint. I reset all the settings several times and tried switching between the different white balance options, but they all have the blue hue. The included image was taken after resetting to the default settings and set to auto for everything.

Took about 400 photos with my S8100 on a trip with image mode set to 4,000x3,000, however, after downloading them to my computer, many of the pictures taken in the middle of trip are only 800x600 quality. The sequence of about 50 of the 800x600 pictures is interrupted by 4,000x3,000 pictures many times, so I know the issue wasn't that the setting was accidentally changed. I chose to delete the pictures from the card when I downloaded, so I'm at a loss as to how this happened and what to do to prevent it in the future. We drove from the West coast to Mount Rushmore and unfortunately many of our best shots look like they were taken with an old camera phone. Any ideas on what happened and how to prevent in the future would be much appreciated.

Answer:
When the battery is fully charged there's no indicator. The battery level indicator will appear on the Top left corner of the screen showing a battery half full, this means its low and you need to prepare to charge it. Once the battery runs out of charge you will get a message on the screen "Battery Exhausted" and you won't be able to take more pictures.

I've had my Nikon Coolpix S8100 for about 11 months and now it will only work properly for about 20-30 seconds (even on a fully charged battery#. When I turn it on, everything works #menu options, photo review and deleting pics, snapping photos, etc.#, but after around 20-30 seconds I lose these abilities. The strange part is that the camera doesn's shut down or go black, the picture continues to come through the screen, I'm able to rotate through the options of what type of picutre to take #auto, scene, night photo, etc.# and the auto adjust is still moving things #I can hear it) as I point the camera to differently lighted areas, and I can go to the picture review area even thought I can't scroll through my pictures. Is this a software problem that I can reinstall the software on the camera? We really like the camera and would like it fixed but I can't find this case on any help groups and as I bought it in the US and now live in Spain it's a little tricky to take it in. What do you suggest?

The answer to the question about how photos taken at mode 4k x 3k were reduced in quality to 800 x 600 received the following answer:

"When the battery is fully charged there's no indicator. The battery level indicator will appear on the Top left corner of the screen showing a battery half full, this means its low and you need to prepare to charge it. Once the battery runs out of charge you will get a message on the screen "Battery Exhausted" and you won't be able to take more pictures."

I understand the battery level indicator and that I cannot take pictures when the battery is dead; however, I don't see the relevance to my question. Could you please re-read my question below and answer?

"Took about 400 photos with my S8100 on a trip with image mode set to 4,000x3,000, however, after downloading them to my computer, many of the pictures taken in the middle of trip are only 800x600 quality. Any ideas on what happened and how to prevent in the future would be much appreciated."

Thanks.

I am not able to take 2 pictures in a row. Also, none of the buttons on my camera (especially the circular button with multiple options) does not work. I can preview the pictures i have taken, but I cannot do anything other than view them. I also can no longer zoom.
