Excellent Camera My dad bought this camera for my birthday. I have used it constantly now for about 6 months. I have shot amazing photos and great videos. This camera replaced my old film camera. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants to have a great looking camera, great photos, and videos. July 15, 2012
A HORRIBLE camera!!!! I would give it NO STARS if I could. I purchased 2 of these cameras and within a few months BOTH cameras broke--the display showed that there was a LENS ERROR. I then sent both back to Nikon for repair under warranty. Some 2 months after they were returned, they both broke AGAIN--displaying the same LENS ERROR code. Then Nikon wanted to charge me to repair them. A HORRIBLE experience. I would stay away from this model. If you check the internet for Coolpix S8100 and type in LENS ERROR, you will see all the nightmares. Consider yourself warned. July 15, 2012
good camera... REALLY GOOD CAMERA oh my gosh my dad bought me this camera for christmas and it was the best camera ever! it has all the things i need to take pictures of vacations and important stuff. i love this camera. i treat it dearly and i love it like its some precious artifact. love it!!!!!!!!! July 7, 2012
good camera, but the price is very high i bought this camera eight months back, quality is good but taking time to save the photo when you take the pic with flash, compare to other camera's this picture quality is good. June 28, 2012
VERY DISAPPOINTED with this camera! I purchased this camera 12/24/10. I was happy with the picture quality the few times I used it (probably half a dozen times, it mostly sat in a drawer). When I went to use it a couple weeks ago it wouldn't turn on. I ordered 2 new batteries & still nothing. I sent it to Nikon and was informed it would cost $105.24 to repair It's not like I wore it out, or dropped it, it just died. They didn't even say what was wrong with it, just a "Rank B2” repair. It appears from other reviews that this camera has some serious defects. Shame on Nikon for not offering a cheaper fix. This camera cost us $220. WHY ON EARTH would I throw another $100 at this camera? I was upgrading when I purchased it & Nikon had a good reputation. The camera it replaced had been dropped & the hinge on the door that held the SD card broke. It still worked though! In fact EVERY CAMERA I have ever owned STILL WORKS except for this one. Since Nikon doesn't care about customer satisfaction, the only recourse I have is to let others know about my experience....which I intend to do through every social media outlet available to me. I just ordered a new camera with similar options for less than they wanted for the repair and I will have another year warranty. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CAMERA unless you intend it to be a disposable one. I will never buy another Nikon product. May 9, 2012

We currently have one update for the S8100 firmware: 1.1 firmware update
Modifications enabled with this version: When Sequence display options was selected from the playback menu and Individual pictures then selected, pictures previously shot continuously were displayed one at a time, but only the key picture for a series shot after the setting was displayed. Answer:
Consider going to the Setup Menu and select "Reset All" to back to factory default. You may have a setting that is causing the lens to adjust focus like the Macro Mode, usually the lens makes a higher noise to adjust focus up close.

Nikon S8000 Power ON

Hello! I purchased S8000 late last year. Whilst the performance of the camera is pretty decent, there have pretty annoying issues- one major issue is with regard to Power ON button. Even after full charging, pressing down ON button, either does not respond or powers on and then turns its off or even worse, during a picture/video playback, the camera simply switches itself Off.
Could anyone, especially Nikon people, advise as to where is the problem. Thanks a lot!

Answer:
One of the reasons why the camera may turn off by itself is that the battery is exhausted, the Auto off option is on, the battery is cold or the USB cable is connected to the camera. Please verify settings in the Auto Off options by going to MENU > SETUP > AUTO OFF.
If you already tried all these troubleshootings and the problem still persists, you will need to send your camera for service in order to be evaluated by one of our techs:

When the battery is fully charged there's no indicator. The battery level indicator will appear on the Top left corner of the screen showing a battery half full, this means its low and you need to prepare to charge it. Once the battery runs out of charge you will get a message on the screen "Battery Exhausted" and you won't be able to take more pictures.

I was wondering if there was a way you could check how much battery life the camera has remaining at any given time? Is there a way you can check the percentage left or even just bring up the battery icon on the screen to see how much is left? At the moment, the battery light just turns red when it is running low, and this is very annoying as I would like to know how much I have left to know whether I need to charge it or not before I go somewhere-thus preventing it dying when I am away from my charger.

Answer:
Most of the time the shooting delay is caused by focusing. Press the button half way down (and hold it in) and let the camera pre-focus; when the subject is perfect press the button the rest of the way to shoot. With a bit of practice it is easy to get the perfect photo.

I bought the camara about two months ago and today right after taking a picture the lens would not close. I bought this camara from a Best Buy in Arizona. I will be back in Texas on the 4th. Do I need to go by best buy and exchange, or do I need to send it back to Nikon thru the mail?

Answer:
Verify that the battery is fully charge and just release the shutter. If the error persists or appears frequently you will need to send your camera for service.

coolpix S8100 mounted solid to airframe with turbine engine (no vibration)
As soon as the image moves it starts pulsing or waving on the screen.
Is this caused by the propeller or the image stabilization?

Answer:
This model of Coolpix has pre-set settings. You can use one of the scene modes, in your case will be Sport Mode or try a different settings to see which one will work for the type of photography you’re looking for. If you want a camera that you can control the Aperture, Shutter or manually, you will need a D-SLR or a COOLPIX from the "P" series.
