Excellent Camera My dad bought this camera for my birthday. I have used it constantly now for about 6 months. I have shot amazing photos and great videos. This camera replaced my old film camera. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants to have a great looking camera, great photos, and videos. July 15, 2012
A HORRIBLE camera!!!! I would give it NO STARS if I could. I purchased 2 of these cameras and within a few months BOTH cameras broke--the display showed that there was a LENS ERROR. I then sent both back to Nikon for repair under warranty. Some 2 months after they were returned, they both broke AGAIN--displaying the same LENS ERROR code. Then Nikon wanted to charge me to repair them. A HORRIBLE experience. I would stay away from this model. If you check the internet for Coolpix S8100 and type in LENS ERROR, you will see all the nightmares. Consider yourself warned. July 15, 2012
good camera... REALLY GOOD CAMERA oh my gosh my dad bought me this camera for christmas and it was the best camera ever! it has all the things i need to take pictures of vacations and important stuff. i love this camera. i treat it dearly and i love it like its some precious artifact. love it!!!!!!!!! July 7, 2012
good camera, but the price is very high i bought this camera eight months back, quality is good but taking time to save the photo when you take the pic with flash, compare to other camera's this picture quality is good. June 28, 2012
VERY DISAPPOINTED with this camera! I purchased this camera 12/24/10. I was happy with the picture quality the few times I used it (probably half a dozen times, it mostly sat in a drawer). When I went to use it a couple weeks ago it wouldn't turn on. I ordered 2 new batteries & still nothing. I sent it to Nikon and was informed it would cost $105.24 to repair It's not like I wore it out, or dropped it, it just died. They didn't even say what was wrong with it, just a "Rank B2” repair. It appears from other reviews that this camera has some serious defects. Shame on Nikon for not offering a cheaper fix. This camera cost us $220. WHY ON EARTH would I throw another $100 at this camera? I was upgrading when I purchased it & Nikon had a good reputation. The camera it replaced had been dropped & the hinge on the door that held the SD card broke. It still worked though! In fact EVERY CAMERA I have ever owned STILL WORKS except for this one. Since Nikon doesn't care about customer satisfaction, the only recourse I have is to let others know about my experience....which I intend to do through every social media outlet available to me. I just ordered a new camera with similar options for less than they wanted for the repair and I will have another year warranty. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CAMERA unless you intend it to be a disposable one. I will never buy another Nikon product. May 9, 2012

The camera has the feature for Red Eye Reduction. Please see page# 30 and 32 of the user's manual for the COOLPIX s8100. Additionally, if the camera detects red eye while saying an image, the affedted area will be processed to reduce red-eye before the image is saved.

Answer:
Try the following: fully chage the battery using the included AC adapter. Put in in a new SD memory and format it. Re-enter the date and time, as some functions work with no date and some do not. Check the position of the rotary dial on top. Register your camera on the Nikon site and download the manual; read the troubleshooting guide near the end.

Answer:
I'd suggest buying several smaller SDHC cards and swapping them daily or at least occassionally. This way, if your camera breaks, or your SDHC card breaks, or you loose your camera, the amount of PIX or video at risk is much less. The memory cards easily fit in a wallet, are easy to carry even on international trips. Don't forget to get a second (or third) rechargeable battery for your camera, too!

Answer:
Surely if you are getting choppy playback on all videos, it must be something to do with the video card on your computer or possibly the video codecs? Or , more likely, you haven't got enough memory.

I do agree with you, it could be nice if there was some way of adjusting the sensitivity on video recording indoors where there isnt enough light in the room to record properly! Clearly if there isn't enough light for the aperture of the camera you are using, there isn't enough light?

I just got a brand new, black COOLPIX S8100 camera. I ordered a 32GB Class-10 SDHC memory card online for this product.

However, upon inserting the memory into my new camera - I am told that "This card cannot be used." A reason for this silly issue is not provided, and I am left to guess what I should buy next since the camera can't support this wonderful memory card and there is no information on the website regarding why this isn't working.

If I set the camera for fireworks, the self-timer cannot be engaged. If I have the camera on a tripod to capture fireworks, I would want to be able to use the timer so I don't move the camera when I press the shutter.

Some pictures were just not there, but there was a "blank" thumbnail. There were also a few thumbnails that had a grey strip across the top. Before downloading, when I wanted to review pictures, I could go backwards from most recent, but could not start at beginning of card to look at the first pictures taken. Was on a trip, and the last few days worth of pictures were all there--none missing. Have a Lexar 32GB Platinum II SDHC card which is new. Don't know if the problem is card, camera, or computer. Any suggestions?

I am attempting to transfer pictures that were taken on the S8100 from my computer back to the camera in order to connect to our TV to view via the HDMI connection. The camera will not "accept" the pictures when plugged directly into the computer. If I remove the memory card and use an adapter to place the pictures on the memory card, they still will not show on the camera even though they show on the card. I have tried placing them in a variety of files on the card, but none are working. Help!!!

Answer:
Once the pictures are transferred to the computer they cannot be put back into the camera. You can use a Memory Card reader.

I received an answer (ie a question) whether I formatted card before using--I'm prettly sure that I did, but can't swear to it. Any other reason I could have had blank thumbnails?

Answer:
If you’re getting blank thumbnails in your computer after downloading it from the camera it may be that the memory card is corrupted. Try to take a few pictures without the memory card, using the internal memory of the camera and then transfer them to your computer. Format the memory card using the camera.

Nikon CoolPix S8100 - Camera purchased new in Dec. 2010 and used less than 3 hours total. The camera will not turn on and the battery will not charge in the camera (via computer) or on it's charger. The green light blinks once or twice, then nothing. Lens is still extended on the camera from when the battery went dead.
The battery has been used and charged about 5 times, Is it possible the battery would go bad this fast, and how can I tell if it is still good?

Answer:
Memory cards with an SD Speed Class rating of 6 or faster are recommended for recording movies. Movie recording may stop unexpectedly when memory cards with a lower Speed Class rating are used.
