ALMOST A POINT AND SHOOT I recieved this camera for a gift. I had a Kodak EasyShare but the quality of the pictures just didnt work. Then I tried the Nikon S6000 and it takes top shelf photos, and for my abilities, it is nearly a point and shoot camera, I mean you have options to fine tune right at your finger tip and no real teky stuff to use them. I give it a TWO THUMBS UP !!!!! December 19, 2010
Wonderful Camera I got this a few hours ago to take the use off of my DSLR. Its a wonderful camera for a Point and Shoot camera, and the price is just amazing, Love Nikon. December 18, 2010
Nikon is a name that anyone can fall in love with this product and when i went for demo of this model at best buy then I checked point and shoot at other brands too...but when I checked with Nikon then I felt that my search is over about this product. December 3, 2010
Very impressed I spent some time looking into buying a new compact digital camera and knew that I wanted a Nikon and I couldn't be happier with my choice of the S6000. There are so many different shooting modes, it has something for everything. I mainly take pictures of nature, flowers, etc. I've had this camera for almost six months and I am still being amazed by some pictures this little camera can spit out. Once you get used to the settings and you know what fits best when, there is no going wrong. Excellent focusing although it sometimes takes some coaxing. The detail in up close photos is stunning and when you use the zoom correctly it does not turn the photo grainy like so many cameras do. I cannot wait for the first snowfall now that I've got this little camera. The only bad thing I have to say about it is I am not a fan of the battery hatch. It is flimsy and I am in the process of sending my camera back to Nikon for repair since the clip that holds the battery in broke off. Other than that this little camera is well worth the money. November 26, 2010
To early to comment It looks great, I purchased 2 days ago.I choose Nikon for the reputation of the name, and the feature of the camera. like the 14.2 megapixels. Just finish the installation of the software. October 30, 2010
Great Camera for dummies We had to bring ourselves up to the digital age. We were still using throw away cameras. Found this through a friend. Ordered it. Love it! It is a easy camera to use. October 27, 2010
This product has great features for its price. I just purchased this product. Although I haven't used it yet, I can already feel how easy it is to use as I was putting it together. Great purchase! I had a Nikon Coolpix S610 which my niece loved and ended up gifting to her. October 21, 2010
Great photos right out of the box! I was looking for a point and shoot that would firstly take great photos and secondly was small enough to fit into a pocket. This does it. The video feature could be an added bonus, but is unimportant at this time. I do agree with an earlier comment about the vulnerability of the battery compartment door, but this has yet to happen to me. I have placed a photo here. I am delighted with the clarity and even with enlarging the image, none of the crispness has been lost. This camera looks like it is exactly what I wanted. August 28, 2010
a perfect upgrade... My boss wants me to take 20 photos of our outdoor product every week and they must include random passersby... and I was doing fairly well with my old coolpix with the 3x zoom, but then this 7x zoom caught my eye... ...and now, using this speedy little camera, taking photos at a higher (5M) resolution, and then running them through my computer, I can crop my photos to the PC size that my boss is expecting, and effectively if needed, have a 17x zoom. The candidness of the passersby is now almost total, and my previous 'snapshots' have turned into 'magazine shots'... (not all, but many). I still, just hold the button down, and take up to ten shots of each scene, later choosing the very best one on my computer screen... This little camera is a real 'tool' - and is so easy, and so quick to operate... a real improvement over their three year old product. August 2, 2010
Excellent litle camera! I very much like the rapid response, the crystal-clear screen, and the clearly written, comprehensive user's manual. The colors are vivid and accurate. It's exciting to have a minature high-quality, hand-held computer at my command that takes such high-quality images. I greatly appreciate the zoom range since I usually shoot 28mm wide-angle images, but often need the 200mm reach. It even makes movies! July 26, 2010
This camera takes great pictures! This is my first digital camera, and I wanted a point-and-shoot that would take decent pictures. This camera has definitely exceeded my expectations! I bought it right before a trip back home to see my aunt, so I had no classes, no training, other than what the sales rep showed me and a small amount of time on my own before the flight. I was able to take great shots of the family, our golf outing and where I live when I got back home. The "scene mode" makes it work with great results. I still have to take the free classes (bought it at Ritz) but that will just be icing on the cake. July 24, 2010
great for kids pictures love this camera. works great for sport pics and kids who don't sit still. . July 24, 2010
The clarity of the pictures is unbelieveable I have had my camera now for 3 months and can not say enough about this product. Would recommend this camera to everyone, you will be happy. July 24, 2010
Easy to use, great pictures This camera is easy to use and simple to access the various modes and capabilities. The pictures have been great, with sharp lines and excellent color. July 23, 2010
Have only used it a few times, so far I love it. I love how easy it is to change features. Quality is excellent. July 23, 2010
Really fits the bill. I bought this camera because I don't always carry my D 5000 with me and there are always things or situations to photograph. This is a great supplement to my photo needs. July 23, 2010
Great pictures great features recently purchased my S6000 which is my first digital camera. Three days later went to Barcelona Spain and had fabulous results with my pictures and downloading to my computer. July 23, 2010
Excellent photos and video. As a former Canon owner, I decided to try the Nikon S6000 based on a friend's recommendation. I have been very satisfied. Easy to navigate and takes excellent photos and HD video. My only criticism is that the video portion uses the .mov format that is not compatible with Windows Media or Movie Maker. Apparently, most of these cameras, regardless of brand, do so as well. I just upgraded my video editing software to Adobe. Another feature that some may not care for is that the battery charges in the camera, rather than removing the battery and using a separate charger. I like this feature because it gives you the option of charging the camera through the USB cord attached to your computer. Highly recommended. July 23, 2010
Amazing Camera Used this camera to take some photos and have not had a problem. I like that it has 720 HD capability i have used for all of my movies so for and i love it. July 23, 2010
Good Camera for Shooting on the Fly I've had my Nikon Coolpix S6000 for several months in Afghanistan, and I have found it to be a great little camera to keep in my pocket or in a pouch on my armor. It takes very clear photos in all lighting conditions, and has been very reliable in all weather conditions. The lens on mine is a bit scratched from dust/sand, etc., but my photo quality is still quite good. I am a bit disappointed in the refresh rate, but I have learned to time my shots to make up for this. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone wanting a compact, durable way to take photos without breaking the bank. June 22, 2011
nice pics I like this camera alot....it takes nice clear pictures. I'm still learning what all the buttons do, but I like the image it gives me. April 8, 2011
Great Point and Shoot My friend recently returned from Peru with this pocket sized dynamo, his pictures were great, better than the ones taken by a much more expensive Sony D-SLR. I was so impressed I purchased one of my own, it's great, thanks again Nikon March 26, 2011
Easy to use This camera is so easy to use. My two year old granddaughter picked it up from the table, turned it on and took 14 great pictures. Go figure, great job Nikon! March 23, 2011
Need additional software not supplied Be aware that to download pictures to your computer, you need a copy of ptpusb.dll which is not supplied with the camera. This does not normally reside in the WINDOWS files and has to be purchased online ($50.00). March 5, 2011
Reccomended by the salesman-- great features We were very fortunate to get this camera when it was on sale. We saved $60.00. We originally went into Best Buy to buy a slide viewer and even though they did not carry it, the employee at the desk gave us the location of the store to purchase one. We got our camera(at a bargain) the slide viewer that we wanted and a happy conclusion to our shopping experience. February 24, 2011
Great pictures Purchased this Camera and love the qaulity of the pictures and Video February 21, 2011
Amazing! This camera is amazing! It takes very clear pictures, but sometimes it takes a while for it to zoom in, and sometimes after you take a picture it will say "please wait for the camera to finish recording" thats all well and good but sometimes it stays there for a few seconds and won't let you look at the picture until it's gone, either wise the camera is very good. I recommended it to many of my friends already! Nikon is a great brand! January 30, 2011
Almost perfect This camera does well with pictures, speed focusing and many other things. the one thing it did not do and the exact reason I am returning this, minor as it may seem... there is no continuous shot option when you use the timer. I take pictures of myself for my website and I do not want to be running around back and fourth to take one stupid picture at a time. easy firmware update but they won't do it. I gave it 4 stars because that was the only flaw i found. January 27, 2011
Fast camera for the $ I just got this camera a month ago and really like it. Very similar in operation to most. Haven't used the video yet but the pictures look great and the speed to take another shot is quick for the $ spent. Only bad think is the plastic clip to expose the USB connection is not real ez to open, need to have a little bit of finger nail to access. Otherwise, the HDMI and battery/SD card seems tough enuf.and ez to access. Go 4 it! January 2, 2011
Love all the great options this camera has Sill learning about my new Coolpix S6000 camera, having a little difficulty with a few blurred pictures. Not sure what settings are the right ones to choose. December 21, 2010

Camer has been working just fine. It sat on my desk for the last month and now won't power on. I was assuming the battery went dead so plugged it in all day and still nothing. Now in looking the charge light does not come on when plugged into the charger. Have tried different outlets still no light. Have tried removing the battery and reinserting as well as charging without the memory card. Still nothing, no lights at all and won't power on.

I am having troubles with my camera and charging, I have not charged my camera for about more then a month and when I charged it then it worked fine. I just recently have used my camera again and it was still at half battery life (I don't use my camera to much) so i decided to recharge the battery. when I plugged it into my computer it shows that the power button is lit up like it is charging and shows that it wants to transfer data, but when i unplugged it the next day the battery was still at the same level. Then I tried the charger that came with it to plug in the wall. Even this has not worked when it is on the wall charger my camera shows that it wants to transfer data not charge the power button does not even light up. Then after a day of my camera on the charger to see if it was charging even tho it didn't show it was the battery went totally dead. what could be the problem? I am going out and seeing if i can get a new battery to see if that helps any.

If the battery is fully charge no indicator will be display, battery low the indicator will show a battery half full (prepare to charge it) and battery exhausted will appear when the camera needs a fully recharge battery.

Answer:
I just bought one of these cameras too and was looking for the green light on the charger. I found out the indicator light that shows the charge status is actually on the back of the camera itself. It is next to the upper right corner of the display screen. If I remember correctly, the light flashes green when charging and goes dark once it is fully charged in about 4-5 hours with a dead battery.

You told the previous person who wrote in on this that there is a display on the LCD screen for battery life. Not so on mine. I have had many cameras and they all have the little green battery in the corner that gradually gets less full until it goes red. Not on the S6000. No warning light on this one. It simply gives the error message "battery exhausted" and shuts down. Is this a problem with my particular camera (and the previous person who wrote in)? Do I need to exchange it for a new one? I've been using it since December and this is my only complaint, but to me a big one as this is my "purse camera." This has me not recommending this camera to others.

I bought an S6000, new, in Dec of 2010. It has worked beautifully until now. The battery door seems like it is not puting enough pressure on the battery to make contact. If I apply pressure to the door while turning it on, I can get it to work most times, but if I don't, the camera won't turn on. Can this be repaired?
