Compact DSLR This camera made my life amazing! I must say it is no less than a DSLR. I've taken like over a thousand photos and the results are extraordinary! Love you Nikon S6000. July 5, 2012
Love Love Love me some Nikon! I have spent the last 15 years using a Nikon FM10 (fully manual 35mm) and not only has it outlasted any other camer I have ever seen, it also performs like a champ and takes exceptional pictures! When I took the plunge to digital, I did A LOT of research on what the best camera for me would be. I decided on the Coolpix S6000. I couldn't be happier with my choice. Thank you Nikon for never ceasing to amaze me :) July 28, 2011
Love My Nikon I absolutely love my coolpixs 6000! It takes great quality photos and videos. June 16, 2011
The BEST camera! My husband bought me this camera about 9 months ago! I wanted a smaller camera to have on the go since we had a newborn! This camera is honestly the best camera I have ever had! It is great for capturing those special moments with our little one, holidays, weddings, get togethers and everything in between! I recommend this camera for everyone! June 6, 2011

When I turn my camera on, the lens come out like normal but my screen stays black like it's off. Once the screen went black and white (kind of like static) and then everything was normal. I could take pictures and see them, but about 5 minutes later, it went black again. When the screen is black, I can take a picture and then see it when I put my SD card in my computer. It hasn't been dropped or anything recently, so I can't figure out what's going on.

Answer:
The S6000 uses SD (Secure Digital) memory. Memory cards with an SD Speed Class Memory of 6 or faster are recommended for recording movies. Movie recording may stop unexpectedly when memory cards with a lower Speed Class rating are used.

A month ago my battery wouldn't charge. Found out the battery wasn't good due to not using it. Bought a brand new one. It's now dead & won't charge. No green light at all. I plugged charger in the wall first, no green light. So I tried to use the on button and nothing. Then I pick it up & the light is flashing yellow then stops. Still nothing.

Answer:
This could be caused by a number of different factors but the most likely cause would be a bad battery or memory card. If this issue is occuring when there is a memory card in the camera then remove the memory card and try turning the camera on again. If removing the memory card resolves the issue see this page for a list of approved memory cards for the S6000: http://support.nikonusa.com/app/ans...

If removing the memory card does not resolve the issue and your battery is a fully charged Nikon battery then you may need to replace the battery. The S6000 takes the EN-EL12 battery - see attached product link.

If the issue persists with a new memory card and new battery then contact Nikon Support for further assistance - http://support.nikonusa.com .

I am unable to get clear photos with the Macro on the coolpix s6000. The photos are not crisp and are grainy.

I can't get closer than 12" away or the pics are more blurry. I have photo lights, a boom arm stand (for steadiness), and use a class 10 card. I've used a tent but it did not help the camera pics. Can you assist with the best settings on the camera or offer suggestions?

Answer:
You should definitely be able to focus closer than 12 inches since the S6000's Macro Mode allows you to get as close as 3cm (1.2in) from the subject.

If you are shooting in Close-Up Scene Mode the camera settings are automatically optimized to macro shooting. Details on the Close-Up Scene Mode can be found on page 57 of the S6000. Note that the manual suggests that you enable Vibration Reduction - see page 129 of the manual for information on this feature.

If you are shooting in Auto Mode you will need to turn Macro Mode on by pressing the rotary multi selector at the bottom where the Tulip icon in printed. Then use the multi-selector to select "On" and press OK. More info on this setting can be found on page 33 of the manual. In Auto mode you have control over other settings like ISO sensitivity, AF Area Mode and Autofocus Mode (see manual page 36 for a complete list). If your images appear grainy you may have your ISO sensitivity set too high. High ISO sensitivity settings are offen associated with noisy or grainy images. Try setting your ISO sensitivity to one of the Fixed Range Auto options. See page 43 of the manual for more information on ISO sensitivity. For focus, set your AF Area Mode to Manual (pages 45-46) and your Autofocus Mode to Single AF (page 48).

A copy of the S6000 manual can be downloaded from this address:
http://support.nikonusa.com/app/ans...

If you continue to experience difficulty please contact Nikon technical support: http://support.nikonusa.com.

The camera power on function is intermittent. Pressing power on button, camera fails to turn on. Sometimes, if I hold down the power on button and start randomly pressing various function buttons on the camera, it will than power up.

I have removed and reinserted the battery. Doesn't seem to have any affect.

Shutting down is not a problem.
