This product can be challenging there is no setting or menu item to show battery life. if there is, we have not found it yet. We used the camera on a cruise this summer, and the "lens" would not open fully. When this happened, the camera would shut down. We lost some good shots because of this. After a while, if we gave the lens a bit of a touch, it would fully extend and the camera would work about 90% of the time. We plan to return it to retailer for exchange. September 12, 2010
OK for what it is I bought this camera as a lite weight companion to my Nikon D80 which I absolutely love. But sometimes, it's just too heavy to drag up a mountain when I'm carrying a lot of other gear. The S3000 is lite, compact and slick looking. And it takes good pictures a lot of the time. However, I get a lot of out-of-focus, shutter-too-slow photos despite the anti-shake. Not particularly good in low light without the flash. Probably a peculiarity of my own, but I don't like using the LCD screen as a viewfinder and having to hold the camera at arms length to shoot most effectively. Would really prefer to have the option of an optical viewfinder (and not one of those DSLR things found on some cameras). September 4, 2010
Little cam packs a lot of punch! My previous cam broke and I really wanted an affordable high-quality Nikon until I could save up for an SLR. Let's just say that I'm quite impressed really, as this little pocket-sized cam packs a lot of punch! When I first got it I was slightly worried by it's small size ha,ha.... but thus far I have found it to be small, easy to use & very effective @ high quality shots for what it is. The video feature could use improvement, but other than that, I've been able to take a diverse selection of photographs (family, garden, animals, nature...) quite successfully and I am pleased with my purchase. Thanks Nikon for producing another high-quality product... I will definitely be upgrading in the future to another Nikon! : ) ~C~ ( Who has a passion for photography since her youth/takes photos virtually everyday and has been a Nikon S3000 user for approx 4 months now with absolutely no problems thus far... ) September 2, 2010
S3000 very bad picture quality i had a nikon s52c with 9 MP and that was a great camera this it's very hard to get a good picture and in low light it's better that you don't take pictures sorry for nikon to make such a bad camera September 1, 2010
Great Camera The camera does so many things that not many other handheld digital cameras do! i especially like the smart portrait feature! August 30, 2010
Super-easy to use We bought this product two days before leaving on vacation--very little time to learn and try it out. We discovered it was user-friendly--small and compact, so it was convenient to carry everywyhere with us. The pictures came out beautiful, and we are well pleased with the camera. August 19, 2010
Simple and fun If you're looking for a good, simple, point and shoot digital camera the S3000 is great value for the money, in its price range. The S3000 offers simple point and shoot operation, but includes enough extra features for a novice user to have some fun with photography if wanted. The Nikkor lens provides clear, clean and crisp images. The Nikon quality construction, with its slim and ultra compact design makes it so easy to take with you anywhere, or to any event. August 17, 2010
Great for a 17 year old boy We bought the COOLPIXS3000 for a young man that is visiting us for 3 month from Honduras. The minute he received the camera he began to take pictures of everything that he saw. He will have so many memories to take back to Honduras in picture form. I can't think of a better way to save the many memories of the places that he has visited. August 7, 2010
Unable to get a nice clear picture. Pictures are hard to get good quality. They blurr bad color. I have tried all adjustment. I have always used Nikon but would not buy another one of these. Got it to fit in my pocket to take with me. Not really worth the trouble. August 6, 2010
The flower and/or close up mode is not good. This camera does not take good pictures in the flower or close up mode. The pictures are out of focus. I have taken 100's of flower pictures in the past with a different camera and were excellent. But due to damaging my camera in a small France town this camera was the only kind available. The other scene modes work well. The camera is easy to use. However, if close up or flower scenes is important to you I would not recommend this camera. August 5, 2010
So easy! Took this on a vacation to NYC - got great shots, easy to take around and WONDERFUL memories captured. August 5, 2010
nice I just bought this camera recently because I was very impressed with a similar camera my family uses. It was only 10 megapixels and I found this at a local store. I bought it after doing some research. The pictures are clear and is a nice thinner size. August 2, 2010
I carry it everywhere ! My Coolpix S 3000 is wonderful and easy to use. I bought it 2 weeks before I left for my trip to Egypt. I was a little hesitant about buying a new camera so close to leaving, but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to use. I got great shots of some of the world's wonders. One suggestion. Purchase an extra battery and keep it charged and ready to go. August 2, 2010
This camera is great for "Point and shoot"! It operates well in a variety of lighting conditions with the auto mode, and I especially like the zoom! I love the large viewfinder that enables you to hold the camera out away from you to take that elusive "perfect shot! It did have trouble auto-focusing when we were driving, and taking pics out of the windows! I wish that it would power-up quicker so that you don't miss the shot that comes up after it powers down. It is small enougn to fit in your shirt pocket, and with an extra battery can take pics for the whole day during vacation! Over-all, we took over 900 pics in about a month, including a vacation to Colorado, and I really love this camera! July 31, 2010
Great Camera I got my camera during vacation and I went to Mt.Rushmore and my camera took great pics. I have no problems with it and have dropped it 3 times with no damages to the lens, screen, or camera itself. I love my camera and recommend it to anybody who enjoys taking pics. July 31, 2010
I love my new camera my camera is the best ive taken so many pictures with it, all the features work great i like the extra zoom it has. July 30, 2010
Good camera for the money This is a decent camera for the money. I wish it had a little more zoom, but it is OK. Takes good pictures for the most part. Many times the pictures come out of focus. We just came back from a European vacation where I took over 3000 pictures and I had to dispose of at least 1000 of them because they were out of focus. The heat may have had something to do with it since it was 105 -113 degrees F. I also have a S8000 which had the same issues. July 28, 2010
great pictures Small, easy to use, good price and great picture quality. July 28, 2010
A Casual Camera I purchased this camera to take casual images and to capture some of my jewelry. There are plenty of pixels for the casual user, yet still enough to work in Photoshop when I want to. I am by no means a professional photographer, but I do enjoy a great photo. This camera lets me play at being for real, even though I cannot afford to snap like the big boys. July 27, 2010
This was an average camera For the price I think I got what I paid for. The camera has a nice sized viewing screen and a number of different options for the type of scene being photographed (portrait, landscape, night, fireworks, etc.). The huge downside is that the camera doesn't always focus well. I get a lot of blurry shots. Being a digital I guess that is ok because I'm not wasting film. July 27, 2010
Can't really make up my mind yet I bought my Nikon in April this year. I was loving it, especially the small size that made it so handy to have with me all the time. Unfortunately, during my vacation in early June, the camera malfunctioned and has been returned for repairs. I have not received it back yet. I will for sure give it another try. I bought a Nikon at the recommendation of several friends. I hope it lives up to its reputation. July 26, 2010
Awesome pics i love this camera its my best yet it gives you great pictures and vids i love it July 26, 2010
After only having this camera for a short time I took it on vacation. The menus were easy to navigate to settings for all different situations. The only thing I miss is the zoom capacity of our ultra zoom camera but we got this one as a purse camera to have on the go. I was very pleased with the shots I have taken, action and portrait, light and dark, all have turned out well. July 25, 2010
Great product, easy to utilize, and displays great pictures.Size is great and easy to carry wherever one ventures. Great color in the pictures. July 25, 2010
Beautiful! AMAZING!!! and GREAT product!!! would recommend to anyone who wants to get one! July 24, 2010
worth it for the anti-shake feature Good lil camera does what its supposed to. two great features for me I liked were the anti shake, and video format. 30 fps was cool and was easy to transfer to pc and burn to cd... great for when the grandkids are around....... July 24, 2010
s3000 It is small and takes great pictures. the simple modes are easy to understand and are explained as you pass through them. I would highly recommend a large SD card if you are planning to take movies and high pixels July 24, 2010
A bit disappointed I find that as long as you keep the Coolpix 3000 in Auto mode it works fine most of the time. If you are zoomed to the max of the optical range the camera will not auto-focus. It's a good starter camera, but it has a lot of trouble focusing. Also the camera tends to take washed out pictures. I always need to decrease the light intensity. Also I am unable to get very close in macro mode. The camera wont focus within the specified 3" range. July 23, 2010
good deal good deal for the price but the wide zoom button is making so loose and not perfect July 23, 2010
Good Camera, Just hope it doesn't break again Great camera but if you are out doors a lot like me or like to drop your cell phone from time to time, maybe not the most durable camera. I had it for a month and the lens broke. Nikon fixed it for free but I missed several photo ops over vacations during the month it was in the repair shop...hope it goes better from here on out. I still say I love the quality of the pictures but really don't want it to break again! July 23, 2010

Answer:
I've had that a lot too! what I found out is you kind of....mess around with the charger, the battery, and the outlet. Like, unplug it, take the battery out,, plug it back in, unplug the little box-thing (that holds the battery) from the cord that goes into the outlet, etc. Just keep messing with it until it is blinking normally.
Good Luck!

Answer:
If the light is flickering (not blinking slowly) it means that the ambient temperature is not suited to charging or the USB cable or Charging AC Adapter is not properly connected, or there's a problem with the battery. Disconnect the USB cable or unplug the Charging AC Adapter and correctly connect it again, or charge the battery.

Answer:
First, make sure you are charging by plugging your USB into a converter in the wall rather than using your computer.

Second, this camera/battery combination has a known error that needs to be fixed. When the Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL10 was inserted in the camera and charged, charging sometimes did not stop after the designated amount of time had passed. The firmware needs to be updated by downloading to your computer, installing on your camera, and replacing your battery. See http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16873

I have the coolpix s3000. I've had it for a year and only used it a few times. I first started noticing problems when a fully charged battery said "Battery exhausted" and wouldnt charge at all. I then bought a new battery, and now my camera will not come on AT ALL. It seems the lens MAY be stuck,or it may actually be a battery problem. I'd plug my camera into the computer and the wall and the LED light would blink green slowly 3 times then blink rapidly and stop completely. I haven't even used the camera 10 times and it's no longer working. HELP ME!

Answer:
I have an S3000 that has gone through three batteries and after just a few uses would give me the message "Battery Exhausted." According to Nikon, when the eRechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL10 is inserted in the camera and charged, charging sometimes did not stop after the designated amount of time had passed.

Updated firmware needs to be downloaded and installed to your camera, and install a NEW battery. http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16873
