Numerous features & excellent pictures The camera has a solid feel and is very compact. The pictures so far have been very good. July 21, 2010
Wonderful I love my Nikon S4000 very easy to use and I get a lot of compliments about the style of the camera. July 21, 2010
This is a very good product I brought this camera to take pictures at my father's birthday party. I love the touch screen feature, it makes life easy. It was pretty easy to learn how to operate it, which is good since I needed to know in a hurry. It has alot of great features, too many to mention. Definitely worth buying. My only concern is that I hope when I go to get the pictures printed that the time/date stamp does not print out on the front of the photo. It shows up on the screen, which I don't like. I am use to the time/date being on the back of the photo not the front. July 21, 2010
"Outstanding" Outstanding Camera; I have nothing less than a great experience with it! The camera is compact, very easy to use, and takes Awesome pictures. It's a hassle free great experience every single time!! July 21, 2010
Slow between pictures I have several Nikon cameras. Got this one on vacation when the battery died in my other Nikon and didn't have the charger with me. The S4000 was set up to view the picture on the screen after taking it. I noticed the picture stayed on the screen for what seemed like a long time causing me to miss shots. I tried to find a setting to decrease the delay time the photo was viewed but couldn't find one. I emailed Nikon and was told I would have to turn off the picture viewer portion to speed the camera up between pictures. Well guess what.... it didn't help. The camera is still slow in storing the picture to the camera meaning that you miss a lot of good pictures waiting and waiting and waiting! Another thing I don't like about it is the battery has to be charged while inside the camera. How much more would it have been to include a charger, you still have to use cables to connect it to the power source. July 21, 2010
This produvt is really neat, great features The product has many cool features. The touch screen, framing feature and the contunuous take feature is helpful in taking pictures of children. The camera is light, small and easy to handle. We bought a new camera to get one that would take up as little room as possible. In addition it takes great pictures even under difficult lighting conditions. July 21, 2010
Excellent, excellent camera This camera is such a breath of fresh air compared to the last camera I owned. It is very easy to use. My husband purchased one a week after I purchased mine because he loved mine so much. July 21, 2010
Very good Camera! This camera is well worth buying. It is easy to use, easy to bring with you, and looks awesome! It's user interface feels natural and takes no previous knowledge of electronics. I highly recommend it! July 21, 2010
this product is amazing this product is amazing I really like it, because it's works wonderfull, I don't know how can I describe July 21, 2010
Lot's of fun, great pictures Very easy to use, I like it better than my Sony, the touch screen is neat. Great product for the price. July 21, 2010
Very easy to use and takes excellent quality photo Extremely easy to use and figure out how to use most features without use of instruction book quality of pictures are great I highly recommend this camera perfect for vacation photos or parties as it is small and easy to carry July 21, 2010
It takes great pictures! It generally takes great pictures. I took on my vacation to Virginia Beach and most of my shots were excellent but I had a couple that were blurry and I don't know why. Other than that it is great and I lover all the features. July 21, 2010
Nice pocket camera when not carrying my D300. Nice, good monitor, and easy to use. However, I find the screen tap menu a bit difficult to use. The pressure to initiate a command and the rapidity of changing the program a bit slow and, in bright light, sometimes difficult to see. Would like a view finder for bright days!!! Resolution and picture menu are fine, and more than I have ever used, but you never know when that specific need might arise? The included case looks fine, but I have managed to drop the camera several times when pulling out the camera for lack of grip on the camera--please make more side or bottom grasp holes! A bit disappointed on the zoom, but then cannot compare it to my Nikon D300 with 300mm zoom? July 21, 2010
Great little camera feature rich for the price I love the color (plum) and the "feel" of the camera. If you follow directions, it takes great pictures. It's small size allows me to carry it in my purse at all times. I would urge you to look at this product if you are looking for a great compact camera. July 21, 2010
Wow! This is a great little camera. I was not wild about the touch screen but after using it for awhile, I cannot imagine not having touch screen. This little camera gives great pictures, highly recommend it to all! July 21, 2010
So Easy I love this camera. Great pics and really easy to use July 21, 2010
Great camera could be a little easier to find the setting function for all. Should come with a quick settings sheet. To hard to find the functions needed on manuel.. Otherwise I love the camera takes great pictures.... July 21, 2010
Can't transfer photos to computer After loading NX Transfer, I can't get anything to happen. Re-installed Software Suite and same results. Windows 7 Home Premium and Picasa3. Do I need new drivers? Devices and Printers S4000 never comes up. Frusted and wanted to by my grand daughter a S4000 for Birthday, now maybe not. She likes Cannon. DAJ July 21, 2010
Great features and quality The features and image quality are the best whithout mentioning the portability I can carry it in my pocket I do really recommend it. July 21, 2010
It does not have anti shake features like Sony. The Video recordinng feature will only record few seconds then stops. July 21, 2010
Excelent product Excellent product, specially for my wife who don't know to much about electronics July 21, 2010
very good product I am impressed with my new S400 NIKON camera. This is a very good camera, even my friends are impressed with the resolution and look. I would recommend it to everyone!. July 21, 2010
Great pictures, questionable camera This camera takes excellent pictures. We have used it on vacations and for everyday pictures around the house. It is really easy to use with everything you need displayed right on the screen. However, after 3 months of ownership we had a severe lens malfunction and had to send the camera in for repairs. The repairs took about 3 weeks to complete. So again excellent pictures even reall good HD video, but mine and some of my friends identical cameras have lens failures. July 21, 2010
One of the best! For the price this is the best buy. I am only an ameteur and it makes me look like I really know how to photograph my subjects. I get lots of complements. July 20, 2010
This product is good, not great. I received my Nikon a few months ago as a gift and I was hoping it would have the same quality that my other Nikon had, but unfortunately, it doesn't. I'm slightly disappointed with the camera's Macro mode. It has a hard time focusing on the subject and most of the pictures taken are blurry. Motion pictures aren't too horrible, but they're not always good. Most of the time many of the pictures turn out blurry, and for the megapixel amount, the quality of the pictures should be better. Overall, I love the touch screen and the ability to look through my pictures without pressing buttons (I like how you can quickly flip through your photos). I would say that this is a good camera, but not worth the price, especially if you're looking for a camera that takes quality pictures. July 20, 2010
this product got a charger problem After a several picture taking on several ocation and the battery is dead I plug the charger to charge the battery but I notice that the light that show it not charging the battery didnt turn on and after one hour of charging the battery istiil dead so I decided to return it right away. July 20, 2010
when taking pictures inside, sometimes it is colored and not natural July 20, 2010
I would rate about 3 stars It is hard to see the screen in daylight. Pictures come out too bright and sometimes blurry. Not totally satisfied. July 20, 2010
Camera is excellent in producing quality photos. Camera is small yet has the features of full size SLR without the bulk. Camera is able to take many types of photos well. Camera was priced fairly. I love this camera for its flexible views, small size and quality photos. July 20, 2010
Does everything easily with good results.Much better than using film July 20, 2010

Whenever I take a video over a minute or so, the camera says the file did not save or no file can be recognized or something. Can anyone tell me how to fix that, because time-limited videos aren't that fun.

Answer:
I tried one of the approved cards (Lexar 8Gig) and had the same problem. Worked for the first video (about 3 minutes in length) then when I went to do the next video, I received the same "can't read" message. Very frustrated with this camera for video.

Answer:
You are probably using a memory card with too low of a speed classification. On the SanDisk SD Card, there is a number inside a "C". If this is not 4 or more, the write speed of the card is too slow.

Answer:
If the light is too dim, the shutter speed will be very slow, and any camera motion will blur the photo. Also, make sure that you are not "punching" the shutter button. Press slowly, and gently.

Answer:
make sure you have the right adjustments for exposure, like:
white balance in auto mode
ISO sensitivity auto
AF area mode auto.
(all of this if you're novice) and when taking a shoot make sure you press at half the shutter to focus and when the focus area goes green press fully the shutter. Another thing will help you is:
AF assist - auto
vibration reduction - on
motion detection - auto

too small of a card, settings for pics set too high. On mine with a 4GB card I can only get 250 pics at max resoulution. Recommend 2-4 GB card for this camera, unless you want to constantly download photos.

Answer:
Pictures taken are recorded as images files. The size of the files and with it the number of images that can be recorded, depends on the size and quality of the images. Before shooting, choose an image mode according to how you plan to use the picture. See page # 48 of the User’s Manual.

Ex. If you have the Image Mode set to 12M you can only record 5 pictures in the internal memory. If you set it for 3M you can record 46 pictures. Internal memory is approximate 45MB.

Answer:
Make sure you are using SanDisk cards, and double check the speed class of the SD Cards you use. I was unaware that they had such a thing, but the Coolpix 400 requires a card with a speed class of 4 or higher. On the face of the card, right below the red part of the label, there is a number enclosed in a "C". This indicates the speed class.

Answer:
How many photos were you trying to import? I use a mac as well, and it can take sometime for iPhoto to read all the photos on the camera. I had 800 photos on my camera, and it took almost a minute for my camera/photos to appear in iPhoto.
Try closing iPhoto, then connecting your camera. iPhoto should automatically open and read the photos and then give you an option to import the photos.
