Extremely Dis-satisfied Customer
I would HIGHLY recommend the high-end Nikons -BUT-
this CoolPix S4000 is TERRIBLE and we can not believe it is a Nikon, it has broken once, was replaced - then the replacement does NOT work well and we can not get it replaced or exchanged for a working camera. Very disappointed in this product and Best Buy.

Best camera features, simple to move through.
I just receive this camera as a Christmas gift and I cannot stop taking pictures of my grands and anything that moves. I just love the features and the ease of use. I can actually move from one function to another and not get lost. The photos are spectacular. I love the editing I can do right away. I print right away. LOVE IT.

i love my camera
this is a cool camera, but they could just print and send us an instruction manual, rather than us having to go on the pc to look it up..i want one to carry around in case i need it, which i do often, it needs to have a faster shutter too, takes a bit to take a pic sometimes...i hate that part, i have missed many a good pic waiting...love the touch screen, and the features..but need that manual, and it could have come with a charger for the battery..dont like having to plug whole camera in pc to charge...

neat little camera
This is a neat little camera. i had a Canon powershot a470, i got it last year and this year i wanted to get a newer camera and thought i'd try out Nikon. Their are pros and cons between it and my old Canon. But for this Nikon s4000, it's a pretty good little camera for it's category.
PROS:
~color quality is amazing
~the scenes are pretty good
~it's small and light weight
~love the big size of the screen
~the picture is so clear!
~the video is very clear
~the picture is really bright
~many picture options
~the black and white picture is amazing
CONS:
~the zoom clearity isn't as good as my Canon was
~the battery takes over an hour to charge
~onley one cord fits it (nikon's cord) don't lose it
~you have to sometimes hit the buttons more than once on the touch screen
But over all it's a good camera. I would recomend it to a friend. This is the camera you can take anywhere, partys, on the road, camping, fishing ect... pretty good.

This product is so easy to use
I love everything about this camera. I was afraid the touch screen would be difficult to use but it is not. The flash works extremely well and the pictures are great. I can't believe a camera this small takes such good pictures.

Great quality for little camera. Very Accurate
I compared this camera to Sony w330, w350, w370 and this camera is so much better, It is smaller and curvy, unlike sony w series.
Picture quality is amazing - true colors. Its fast enough and overall great camera for a little over $100. Will recommend to anyone.

I love this camera, I used to have the Nikon S70 and although I loved many of its features, the zoom often left me with blurry pictures. Also, the first time i dropped my S70, it broke and they told me it was $250 to get it fixed even though I only paid $300. My new S4000 I have dropped several times and is still in working shape, plus the pictures came out great from my vacation.

AWESOME CAMERA

Amazing camera for being a compact.
This is my third Compact Digital Camera I have ever owned. It has great picture quality, great movie quality and is simple to use! I am going to have it with me basically everywhere I go. Happy I got it.

Not what I thought
My husband purchased this camera after he broke my cannon of 5 yrs. This camera doesn't compare. I have not been able to take one very good quality picture even in good lighting. A good picture in dim lighting is out of the question. This camera has been very disappointing to me for the money he paid for it. The faces always have a little blurr and the picture is always too light. Pick another camera if you want better quality pictures.

Fozen lense
Rceived this camera for Mother's Day it has less than 700 pictures recorded, am able to download the pictures, but the lense has frozen won't turn back on. Seven months old and already broken. I'm an unhappy Mom

Great Camera
Very easy to use. Takes great pictures with very little effort. Price is very acceptable for this quality of product, definitely something worth picking up for Christmas. Touch screen is high quality, very similar to an ipod, quite sensitive. Menu system is good for a first gen product, not complicated or overly clicky. Certainly recommended, small enough to carry everywhere and easy enough for anyone to use.

I've only had this camera 2 weeks and it already broke. Just stopped turning on for no apparent reason. This camera is not worth the money.

Horrible Experience!
A Nikon sales person was at Bestbuy and talked us into this camera. I am very disapointed with the pictures. We first took it out of the box, charged it, set it to Auto and took a couple indoor (poenty of light) pictures of our dog. The eyes were green and the flash made the dog shine! I then took a couple of the kids . . . RED EYE!!! I set the flash to the red eye setting. ... RED EYE!!! The camera was then taken to a concert, front row. Everythign is blurry and out of focus. The flash seemed to work OK, but bottomline; an experience we did NOT capture on film!

I just got this camera yesterday and it is my first camera. Ive held alot of cameras before this one though, This one is by far the best, it has done everything and more to keep my pictures in the moment. Love it

very poor quality
i got this camera for christmas almost a year ago. it is a good camera for your basic on the go snap a picture here and there needs. But, if you want that + good quality, look elsewhere. I found that the photos turn out somewhat grainy and you can never get the settings just right. In a room with lights the pictures turn out yellow and the flash is always too bright. The one thing I like on this camera is its macro features. Otherwise this camera has poorly let me down.

AWESOME CAMERA!!!
I have had this camera for a couple months now and I absolutely LOVE it!!!! So far I haven't found anything that I am not satisfied with! I know what impressed my husband and I both the most was when we were out on our boat and I took a video of the water while we were moving! It captured every single ripple and wave! I HIGHLY recommend this camera to others!

This is great product except at night.
The pictures I took during the day were great! However at night, I just couldn't get it right. It maybe me and not the camera. There's alot going on (details) with this camera and I am totally confused on how to set it. I paid $199 for the camera. I wish I had gotten a more consumer friendly camera.

Pretty Good
This camera is very nice. I do a lot of point and shoot photography, so it was a big step up from my L22. The night settings aren't the greatest, but everything else was fantastic. Good price too.

Average to good
I like basic cameras, this one gives to many artsy functions that it becomes difficult to understand. If I do picture alterations I prefer to do this on the computer so bogus camera editing is not necessary. Also the focus time is a little to long causing you to take 2, 3 or even 4 shots to get acceptable results.

This camera is great.
I have only owned this camera less than 6 mos. and I just love all the features it has. I haven't discovered them all, but I enjoy close up/macro setting the best at this time, but other settings are just as great. Pretty easy to use. Just play around with it. Or if all else fails, download the manual, and print it, or give the camera to your kids and have them show you all it can do. I love this camera.

I purchased this camera after leaving my primary camera at home, while attending an out of state wedding. It took no time to familarize with and operate, and it takes fantastic pictures, while being the lightest and smallest camera I have owned.

Whenever I take a video over a minute or so, the camera says the file did not save or no file can be recognized or something. Can anyone tell me how to fix that, because time-limited videos aren't that fun.

I tried one of the approved cards (Lexar 8Gig) and had the same problem. Worked for the first video (about 3 minutes in length) then when I went to do the next video, I received the same "can't read" message. Very frustrated with this camera for video.Jul 4, 2011 by

You are probably using a memory card with too low of a speed classification. On the SanDisk SD Card, there is a number inside a "C". If this is not 4 or more, the write speed of the card is too slow.Answer:

Also reset all settings to defalut:
Tab MENU > Setup menu > Reset all.

If the light is too dim, the shutter speed will be very slow, and any camera motion will blur the photo. Also, make sure that you are not "punching" the shutter button. Press slowly, and gently.Answer:
make sure you have the right adjustments for exposure, like:white balance in auto mode
ISO sensitivity auto
AF area mode auto.
(all of this if you're novice) and when taking a shoot make sure you press at half the shutter to focus and when the focus area goes green press fully the shutter. Another thing will help you is:
AF assist - auto
vibration reduction - on
motion detection - auto

too small of a card, settings for pics set too high. On mine with a 4GB card I can only get 250 pics at max resoulution. Recommend 2-4 GB card for this camera, unless you want to constantly download photos.Apr 2, 2011 by

Pictures taken are recorded as images files. The size of the files and with it the number of images that can be recorded, depends on the size and quality of the images. Before shooting, choose an image mode according to how you plan to use the picture. See page # 48 of the User’s Manual.Ex. If you have the Image Mode set to 12M you can only record 5 pictures in the internal memory. If you set it for 3M you can record 46 pictures. Internal memory is approximate 45MB.

Make sure you are using SanDisk cards, and double check the speed class of the SD Cards you use. I was unaware that they had such a thing, but the Coolpix 400 requires a card with a speed class of 4 or higher. I have imported to my laptop before but now it won't work. Usually it shows the pictures then asks if I want to import all or select photos. It won' t show any pictures and I can't get it to work. My laptop is a Macbook. Any advice on how to fix this?

How many photos were you trying to import? I use a mac as well, and it can take sometime for iPhoto to read all the photos on the camera. I had 800 photos on my camera, and it took almost a minute for my camera/photos to appear in iPhoto.Try closing iPhoto, then connecting your camera. iPhoto should automatically open and read the photos and then give you an option to import the photos.

Close-ups of flowers, that kind of thing, but I can't get it to focus on the object in front - it keeps focusing on the background (background comes out clear, front object is blurry/out of focus). What am I doing wrong?

Please do a Reset All on your camera to restore the settings to default. You can tap Menu > Set up > Reset all. Pag # 134 User's Manual.
I would love a rubber cover that goes right on the camera (like the Ipods have)... I would love to have that extra protection for my camera... Will you be coming out with a rubber fitted case anytime???
