battery use is fabulous Using the AA batteries made this camera a winner. I took it on a trip and never had to worry about charging batteries. The 2 AA lasted for days and days. I took aver 200 pictures and only changed the batteries once. This camera is very easy to use. August 27, 2010
Nikon Coolpix L22 We wanted to purchase a quality, easy to use camera! We put our faith in the reputation that follows Nikon and we bought the Nikon Coolpix L22. I love it! It is definitely easy to use and if you want to take the time to read the manual, you'll find it has many more features that make it even better! I am also learning just by using it often. Now I have so many great pix of my boys and it doesn't take up any more space in my purse than my phone! Love the coolpix! August 23, 2010
Great features for one day We thought that this was a great choice when we bought it. We bought it right before a trip to New York. After using it for a day, the screen broke and the camera could not be used. We took it back to WalMart but they said we had to mail it in. We mailed it to nikonusa.com and they said they would be glad to fix it but we would have to pay. The fee was almost what we paid for it new. We will not rebuy this same camera. August 20, 2010
Can't beat the value! Just returned from a 6000 mile vacation visiting tons of landmarks. This camera took over 1000 stunning pictures of everything from landscapes at MT. Rushmore, Crazy Horse sculpture and the Grand Canyon to closeups of flowers and rocks on the side of the road. Beautiful. Also worked superbly for taking pictures of passing State Line signs to document the trip from a moving car (thanks to image stabilization)! There is no other camera of this price that does so much so well. Believe me, I've looked. August 10, 2010
Does not live up to my expectations I was told it had a manual mode, nope. Consistently over exposed images. No control over iso, aperture or shutter speeds. No hard copy manual. August 9, 2010
Easy to use I bought this at work with the recommendation from several coworkers. It was so easy to use right out of the box. Charged up the rechargeables I had from the previous camera and away I went. Takes great pics for an inexpensive camera. Great optics from a great company. I would buy this camera again and would tell all to buy it, if a point and shoot is what you are after. Bob August 9, 2010
Camera is fine, but no user paper user manual. I bought this camera for my husband, but he will not use the computer. So the user manual CD does not help him and if I printed all 148 pages out for him, it would be bulky and not something he would take on trip or have available when he needs it. I would have chosen another camera for him if I had known that ahead of time. August 5, 2010
Great so far Have yet to get a lot of use out of this camera but I am very happy with the photos taken thus far. August 2, 2010
great for first time nonexpert user I took the Nikon Coopix on my trip to France and was able to use many of its special functions with ease---- "Museum Mode," deleting, printing photos from a computer, "T" and "W" views---- without stopping to get an instruction book out (I did skim it earlier). It is very easy to handle and I was able to turn off my flash where not allowed and shoot pictures for my friend, who could not do the same with hers. Also very clear photos, and easy to interpret symbols, like the "shaking" one when you need to hold the camera more still. Also nice size and easy to see controls. Got it as a gift and loke it a lot. July 29, 2010
Fun & easy to use. I love taking pictures of pretty much everything and this camera has been a joy to work with. It is very easy to use and I figured out most of the settings without reading the manual. The shutter is alittle slow and it doesn't have the Color Accent feature that I would have liked to have but otherwise it is a great camera. The large LCD screen is amazing for viewing photos and the continuous shutter is perfect for chasing my babies around. July 29, 2010
I am beginning to \like the camera! I like Coolpix L22 mainly because of its AA battery. Next, I am finding it to be reliable. All I need is to take more shots so that I know which setup is suitable for certain lighting condition. I have taken photos that produced quite a good looking photo. I am satisfied with the camera as compared to its class of prize. July 29, 2010
Don't leave home without it :) I have been using a COOLPIX 4300 for about 7 years or more. Love every shot and learned from it. I moved up to the L22 and can't say enough about it's capabilities and size. I also moved up from a D70 to a new D5000. WOW! Took both of them last month to Oregan and took 1400 shots of family reunion and a 7 day drive around the state. Now I need a new poster printer to show them off. July 28, 2010
The best point-and-shot 12 MP camera on the market I bought my red L22 during a sale, but the camera would have been a bargain even at full retail. It is extremely easy to use and the quality of the pictures is fantastic. The only missing feature is a view finder. July 28, 2010
I really like this camera. I would recommend this camera to everyone. It is easy to use and this first one to be compatable with my windows 7. Thank you for this good product. July 27, 2010
Good Camera My NIKON CoolPix L22 is a good camera/Camcorder. It is compact, easy to use and gives great pictures. The video has a AVI format which is not as good as MPEG4 format as far as resolution is concerned. Overall, I do like my CoolPix and will recommend it to others. July 26, 2010
Was really impressed at all the features and the ease of use. The low light reproduction was amazing.. Shots taken at night with no flash were excellent. For the price it cannot be beat. July 26, 2010
I would not reommend this camera. I have owned Nikon camers for over forty years. I had another brand of electronic camera of about the same price range but lower pixel capacity. I liked it better. I get a lot of out-of-focus and poor exposure pictures from the L22. Having spent many years with film cameras I really don't like the inability to take instantaneous pictures. In photograhing nature, including animals, it is critical that when the button is pushed the image is preserved in that instant. It doesn't happen with these cameras. July 26, 2010
Very Good Very Good.... Had all of the features I was looking for.... plus more... very easy to use... big screen. The only one thing I wasn't fond of was the panorama shots... if you are looking for a camera (to take panorama's) this is not the one you want... Vvery easy settings for multiple purposes ... Over all excellent! July 25, 2010
GOOD PRODUCT VERY USER FRIENDLY IV BOUGHT THREE OF THESE ONLY THING NIKON SHOULD INCLUDE IS CAMERA COVER AND IT WILL BE A CHARM BUY. DO I GET FREE CAMERA CASEs FROM NIKON ?????????? July 25, 2010
This products takes great pictures I have never been able to take pictures. I was going to Hawaii and needed a camera. I found this and thought I would give it a try. It has great features and as usual I will never use it right anyway. To my surprise, these are the best pictures I have ever taken. Please try it. July 24, 2010
This is the worst camera I have ever own. Works when it feels like it. If you have camera in easy mode maybe 1/2 of your pictures will come out. I'm going back to my old Kodak camera. July 24, 2010
i absolutely love my camera this is the best camera i have ever owned..... I take it every where and use it every where so light to carry, convient to pull out of my bag for those one in a lifetiime shots.............love the features all in all it's a great camera July 24, 2010
Four of five I have owned a Nikon D50 for years and wanted a 'pocket' camera that would also record video. Unfortunately, the battery door latch broke after one month and this is why I rated it at only four stars. Nikon fixed it for free and I now have it back. I plan to buy a UC-e6 (camera to USB cable) so that I don't always have to open the camera to remove the card to work with new pictures on my computer. I've always enjoyed taking close ups and I'm still struggling to find the right setting that will get the camera to focus on a close object. Static indoor shots are easy but outside close up shots drive the auto focus crazy. The 'food' setting seems to work well. When it works, the pictures are stunning. Distance shots have worked out well. The video exceeds my expectations and really adds value to this camera. I recommended this camera to friends and would again. It fills a special photography niche and it is a Nikon. That means a lot. Realize right away that the trade off for its small size is that it is a delicate little machine. Get a padded case immediately. Open the battery door carefully. Think about a USB cable to limit the number of times you need to open the battery door. Enjoy the camera. July 24, 2010
This product has amazing features One and only downside is that I'm having a problem with not being able to hold the camera still enough - apparently haven't conquered the "shake" feature adequately to keep from fuzzy pictures on the non-flash modes - especially when a tripod is not appropriate. Probably operator error. July 24, 2010
very nice camera, takes great pictures. Love the color. July 23, 2010
The Coolpix L22 Is a 5 STAR & Fantastic Camera! Whether you are a "weekend snapper" or aspire to become a pro, NIKON is a GREAT camera to work with! The only thing you need to do is to commit to actually READING the user guide and then practice! It's ease of use and special features make all the difference in the world! I started with a Nikon/NIKKOR 1965 SLR (my Dad gave me), and finally started taking good shots. Then, the digital cameras came out and I never thought Id convert. (Now, cant see what took me so long) Since then, I've bought a few more cameras none hold a candle to the NIKON! My L22 allows me to take very close up pictures and wont let me shoot till subject is in focus. The battery life is very good and the buttons are comfortable/natural placement which is important for among many things, ease of use. I recommend this camera to everyone as I am sure you will love it. I have loved & lived with my Nikon(s) and sincerely believe in the Nikon Company. So much, that I would be a great spokesperson for Nikon as when You believe in something sincerely, you never really have to "sell" anything because it just comes naturally from 1 spirit to another...the energy...everything. As they say, "Nikon Like NO Other"!.....Tatiana July 23, 2010
easy easy to use and good pics, easy to download, good software July 23, 2010
Its ok Its ok but the flash dosnt work most of the time and the some of the pics come out blurry ! but when it does work correct its great other then that i like it i had the l18 and it was great till i dropped it from the second deck at ranger ball park! July 23, 2010
Nikon L22 The Nikon L 22 is the smartest and easist camera to use, it even knows if you are smiling or not, or if someone blinked, it zero's in on people so that you can center the green square to the middle of the frame, very useful.basicly all you have to do is point and shoot, you can even work with the picture digially, lighten , rotate are just two of the thing's I love about it, Battery life is above average, I recommend this camera and am very impressed with it. Tazz July 23, 2010
Really great camera I found this camera easy to use. I didn't have no trouble figuring out how to use it. (Of course, digital cameras are not new to me). I didn't have to install the program it came with. I can't really say anything bad about this camera except you have to use batteries. It is a good buy. July 23, 2010

I have a 250 mb SD card and was able to get more than 100 photos with my previous camera and now I only get about 66 with this one. Is there something wrong with the camera or what should I do to get more photos?

Answer:
You are getting fewer pictures on this card because the pictures you are taking now have a higher resolution setting than your previous camera. If you want more pictures on your card, you are going to have to turn the resolution down to get them.

Answer:
I dare say you are getting less because the file size is bigger. When all said and done nothing in this day and age, I would consider getting something bigger, along the lines of at least 2gb

Answer:
The range of aperture settings is f/3.1 - f/6.7, and the camera chooses the aperture automatically with the L22, and there is no manual aperture selection option. At the widest zoom, the maximum aperture possible is f/3.7, and at full telephoto, the maximum aperture is f/6.7.

If you would like more manual control of your camera, then I would recommend having a look at the P-series COOLPIX, which offer the photography much more control.

I never lose pictures on the SD card. I contacted customer support and went through the process of removing the batteries and SD card for over 24 hours and did a reset as customer support suggested. I also reformated my SD card which is a SanDisk SD card on your approved list.

Is this a known issue and are there any software updates that might fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:
Pictures taken are recorded as images files. The size of the files and with it the number of images that can be recorded, depends on the size and quality of the images. Before shooting, choose an image mode according to how you plan to use the picture. See page # 74 of the User’s Manual.

Ex. If you have the Image Mode set to 12M you can only record 2 pictures in the internal memory. If you set it for 3M you can record 16 pictures. Internal memory is approximate 19MB.
