Good camra Bad design I Got my camra a Nikonpix L22 it take good picture esay to use. The problem is the cheap batterie door broke while in my bag of all places. Now the batteries want stay in, because the door want stay shut. Really a dark cloud over a good product... IT'S A SHAME November 29, 2012
Great Camera untill Battery cover breaks I miss this Camera , now needs Rubber Band etc to keep batteries in due to very POOR design I sent it to Nikon for repair ,it returned , still broken as DAMAGED ......I will try Nikon one more time .........to think a piece of plastic worth under $1 makes this a Bad choice November 27, 2012
Good camera; bad battery door I've had this camera for two years and was so disappointed that the battery door broke. One day it just stopped working and my fix right now is a rubber band to hold them in. November 25, 2012
Poor design, poor quality photos I bought this knowing the Coolpix brand name had a good reputation, but within a few months the battery latch broke. It is a very small piece of plastic molded to body of camera where the door latches to. However, with the springs for the batteries, it puts a lot of pressure on the door and eventually broke. Very poor design and see that many other people have the same problem and Nikon is not willing to recall these. The can repair but will cost more than the what was paid for camera. I do not recommend this camera to others and will continue with the brand I was originally using. Otherwise appears to be a good camera although the photo quality is not as good as my previous camera. September 14, 2012
It was a nice structure. I enjoyed this camera, but then it stopped working. I lost my POP, but by the time I figured this all out, I knew it was no longer covered under warranty. I mean why should I send it in for repairs, when I can buy a new camera. Overall, I enjoy this camera and this brand. I recommend this to all of my family and friends, which I just found out that I have over 1000 family members on my mom side alone... I wonder how many is on my dad side?! September 4, 2012
Not what they used to be............ The tiny plastic latch that holds the cover down broke. I Have had Nikon's camrea's for 40 years. This camera has broken 2 times. I will not buy another Nikon Camera.. August 11, 2012
excellent camera This camera has given me many years of excellent service. Yes I had the problem with the battery cover but that was the fault of kids playing and not watching where they were running and who they were running into. And no it doesn't cost anywhere near the price of the camera to replace it which is what I am going to do. In fact I might just go out and buy another one to use as a backup. I would reccomend the camera to anyone looking for a point and shoot camera because my photos have been praised by and purchased by professional photographers so it is a good camera no matter what some people say. September 24, 2012
Well thought out design and much more.features This camera is a great deal. I like the size of it. It is small enough to fit in my pocket and purse. Yet, it takes powerful pictures with 12 M. The large view finder helps me check the qualities of pictures I take. I usually zoom in the pictures in the view finder to make sure that they are crispy sharp. I like the fact that it uses 2 AA batteries. I am tired of cameras that need special types of batteries I can't find. These AA batteries are sold anywhere. That make it very convenient. I have been using this camera for two years daily. That proves it is durable. I have not read its user guide or owner's manual. But it is easy to use. The displays are kind of self-explanatory. If you are a first time user, you don't have to worry. It is a user-friendly product. There is a self-timer feature that gives you 10 seconds to get ready for the shoot. You can set up the auto shoot and nobody is left out of pictures. The resolution and sizes for your pictures can be selected from many options. The wide screen pictures are awesome. It has a lot of computerized features to find faces and get rid of red eyes. It is too sophisticated that I have not mastered all the features that are available. My favorite activities are taking videos with this camera. The audio and video qualities are excellent. You can convert the size of screen easily with any software on your hand. You will be surprised with this small powerful camera. One 8 G memory card hold many pictures and videos. It is easy to stick in and out of the camera. There is no limit in what we can do with it. If you have any questions, write to support. They get touch with you in a day. I am so glad that I have this camera. I can't spend a day without it. I recommend to anyone. I hope that my comment was helpful. July 22, 2012
COOLPIX, a Camera For All This is a great camera, and is perfect for all events. It is also very easy to use. I highly recommend this product for anyone who does photography on a small scale. It does what it is designed to do, with great quality pictures. Never had a better camera! June 29, 2012
Decent camara..but Battery door is faulty I had this camara for less than 3 months and I noticed when trying to put batteries in the door would not close, till finally I noticed the battery door was chiped. Wish I could have gotten longer life from my purchase. June 7, 2012
Decent Camera, but can break easily. I got my camera about 17 months ago. I accidentally dropped it for the first time the other day, it looked like it was ok, and then i realized a TINY little plastic white clip holding the battery cover shut snapped off somehow. Without that clip, theres no way to keep the cover shut. The batteries press against it and spring it open. Even Duct Tape wont hold very long with the spring action. Now I have no camera, and while i take the blame for dropping it, no camera should break after one drop, and no camera's batter cover should rely on a very tiny plastic clip that is under pressure any time the cover is closed. As for image quality, it works best with close-up mode, other than that its just ok. And with no view finder it really isnt worth the price. May 20, 2012
Nice camera, bad battery cover Got my camera as a Christmas present in 2010. Didn't have problems with it except having to keep plenty of batteries on hand. During one of my many battery changes I noticed the cover would not close tightly after carefully inspecting the cover I noticed that the tiny plastic latch that holds the cover down was broken. I sent it in to Nikon and with $41. I can have it fixed. What a crock , they make a poor quality plastic clip that will inevitably break and charge you almost as much as the camera is worth to fix it. Unfortunately this has turned me off from Nikon. I will not buy another one and if I every receive another Nikon as a gift I will return it. May 9, 2012
Battery door broke I have had this camera for less than a year. On Thanksgiving, when I wanted to take photos of my family for the holiday, I went to change the batteries to Lithium as I was tired of the short life of standard AA batteries and the battery door wouldn't close. I thought maybe the lithiums stood too tall, so I put the regular AA batteries in and I couldn't get the door to close. The photos are not sharp. The photos I tried to take of my sisters wedding came out poorly and this feature where you press the picture button and it takes 10 photos and saves the sharpest never worked. Incredible disappointment. December 10, 2011
Not happy at all... I got this camera for my birthday last year, and within two months, it just, stopped working. my screen will come on, but it REFUSES to display images, i cant even take the pictures and upload them just to see what they came out to look like. It was a pretty gift for about a week, then i started having issues... the focus isnt all that great, and the quality of the pictures aren't what i was expecting froom Nikon. November 27, 2011
Very poor auto focus My second Nikon and, probably, my last. I have to press the shutter button over and over and over to get any kind of sharp focus. It "kind-of" works if you focus on something you want sharp, but not necessarily centered, and then move the focal point to the center while keeping the button pressed. It is utterly maddening to grab a great shot only to find that way too many are completely out of focus, especially group photos. There is no manual workaround for this issue. Another irksome habit is the camera switches to standby mode far too quickly (25 seconds). Sadly, this camera just isn't worth the aggravations and annoyances. November 26, 2011
Camera is easy to use, takes beautiful pictures The Nikon Coolpix camera is easy to use and takes beautiful photographs. There are many modes available and selection is simple. It can be carried in a pocket because of the small size and the color makes it easy to locate. I would highly recommend a Nikon Coolpix camera. November 4, 2011
Not Good Just like for other users, the battery door broke. Now it says that I need new battery, and it won't work. The biggest waste of money. December 5, 2011
Disappointment To Whom This May Concern, The one thing I don't like about this product is everytime I go to use it, the batteries are dead and and it shows Battery Exhausted so what good is it. The last time I bought a camera you charged the battery and it would last for a long time. Because this camerra is this way I just about use it. October 18, 2011
This camera is poorly designed I purchased this camera before my daughter's wedding. I picked it up to take a picture and it dropped out of my hands and fell a few inches to the table. Generally, that would not be a problem with most cameras. However, it hit on the corner of the battery door just enough to dislodge the clip holding the door shut. Here's where the problem is - the door doesn't stay shut, and if I tape it shut I can't get to the memory card. STUPID DESIGN AND A WASTE OF MY MONEY! Very dissappointed in Nikon that they would make such a POORLY designed product. October 6, 2011
Bad Battery Door Do not buy this camera. Camera its self is good, but 3 months after purchasing the camera, the battery door broke. Nikon repaired it free of charge under the warranty. Now 3 days after the warranty is up, the battery door broke again just like it did before. A plastic notch on the latch breaks off. I also own the S6100 in which the battery door broke as well, and auto lens cover broke another time. Both within warranty period thank goodness. September 30, 2011
This product has superb features!! Love, love, love, love, love this camera!!! By far, the BEST CAMERA i have EVER purchased. To potential buyers, you WILL NOT be disappointed in this product!!!! September 2, 2011
fantastic quality This is the best little camera I have ever purchased for the purchase price I paid. So much quality and value for the buck! August 25, 2011
I've owned several, don't make my mistake The camera is good, but the battery door always breaks and Nikon then says that you impacted the camera. Avoid this camera! August 16, 2011
Died an early death I had only used the camera a few times when it failed after downloading pictures. The camera locked into download mode and would not return to picture mode. Tried all resets, etc., to no avail. My wife has the L20 and has experienced no problems with it for two years. August 12, 2011
Great features, good quality This is the first Nikon I have bought, and I like it! I have had this camera for about a year and a half. Some pictures turn out blurry and some off color, but I adjust the flash/lighting and all is well again. I just wanted something simple and easy to use, and this camera reaches beyond my expectations! It's so easy to use that my 6 year old uses it all of the time! Now the sound on the video isn't very well, but this is a camera not a camcorder! I have been very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone who needs a good quality, low price camera!! August 10, 2011
poor quality I absolutely loved this camera at first. It has great features and good aesthetics for a really good price. However, even though it was very gently used and kept in a protective case for most of the 3 months I have owned it, the battery door is already broken. I called customer service, and they said this qualified as damage and therefore wasn't covered under the warranty. They cheerfully offered to fix it for me for more than I originally paid for the camera, but other than that said there was nothing they could do. I am very disappointed! I had another coolpix before this, and had come to expect better quality from that product line. August 1, 2011
Battery door latch broken in 6 months I have a few Nikon cameras from Nikon N65, D50, D90 plus lens. I puchased this Point-N- Shoot just for the convenience to travel for business. It did take some good pictures. As you know I take care of all my Nikon stuff. However, the battery door latch broken within 6 months AND it is not covered under warranty!! Not Recommend and disappointed!! July 26, 2011
Very nice camera,I love it and it's features This was my christmas gift, and I love it and the features, nice to keep in my purse and have it with me at all times. Good Product. June 27, 2011
I love it! This camera is great since I just joined the photography club at my school. Sometimes it takes a little bit to get the settings just right for the subject, but after that it is very easy to use and the pictures come out really well! I would reccommend it to anyone looking to start out with an easy to use camera or learn about photography. Also a great camera for capturing people, not just for artwork. June 21, 2011
I bought this camera for my 9 year old for Christmas in 2010. Very disappointed. Blurry pictures and can't focus expecially indoors. June 21, 2011

I have a 250 mb SD card and was able to get more than 100 photos with my previous camera and now I only get about 66 with this one. Is there something wrong with the camera or what should I do to get more photos?

Answer:
You are getting fewer pictures on this card because the pictures you are taking now have a higher resolution setting than your previous camera. If you want more pictures on your card, you are going to have to turn the resolution down to get them.

Answer:
I dare say you are getting less because the file size is bigger. When all said and done nothing in this day and age, I would consider getting something bigger, along the lines of at least 2gb

Answer:
The range of aperture settings is f/3.1 - f/6.7, and the camera chooses the aperture automatically with the L22, and there is no manual aperture selection option. At the widest zoom, the maximum aperture possible is f/3.7, and at full telephoto, the maximum aperture is f/6.7.

If you would like more manual control of your camera, then I would recommend having a look at the P-series COOLPIX, which offer the photography much more control.

I never lose pictures on the SD card. I contacted customer support and went through the process of removing the batteries and SD card for over 24 hours and did a reset as customer support suggested. I also reformated my SD card which is a SanDisk SD card on your approved list.

Is this a known issue and are there any software updates that might fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:
Pictures taken are recorded as images files. The size of the files and with it the number of images that can be recorded, depends on the size and quality of the images. Before shooting, choose an image mode according to how you plan to use the picture. See page # 74 of the User’s Manual.

Ex. If you have the Image Mode set to 12M you can only record 2 pictures in the internal memory. If you set it for 3M you can record 16 pictures. Internal memory is approximate 19MB.
