was reliable initally but started getting worse I like this camera. my only issue is the flash-bad design-position and recently it takes a long time to turn on/respond -have lost great moment/shot as a result of this delay!! June 14, 2012
Great Camera! I bought this camera 2 years ago and have loved it so far. It is easy to use and I am still discovering features on it. This camera out performs a Canon digital slr, and its compact, no big lenses to carry. May 6, 2012
Huge design flaw wtih battery This is a good camera and takes great high quality photos, but there is a huge design flaw in that you can not see the battery level until the battery is almost dead. Seems to me that a person heading out for the day who wants to have a small pocket camera with them to take photos of the day, would like to know what the battery level is actually at before leaving the house. I have other Nikon cameras and have had them for years and have been very happy with Nikon, but this is a big design flaw. May 5, 2012
HATE THIS CAMERA! I switched from the canon elph to this camera, and i loathe it. Don't buy it if you're looking for a good point and shoot. There's a delay, and candid photo's are quite impossible. I hate this camera... April 28, 2012
This camera surely couldn't have been tested before marketing! The camera wasn't really "inexpensive" for a point and shoot camera. That being said, the camera flash is not in a USER FRIENDLY PLACE------the flash needs to pop up if necessary and that area is where one would HOLD the camera. My camera has now gone in for the 2nd time for the flash correction of not being able to pop up------it was NOT covered by warranty this time. Service was fast however, NIKON needs to recall all these cameras and replace them with a better designed camera. We have put a felt pad marked with a red X so that we won't hold the camera there------here's hoping that the good pictures will come from this camera in spite of the poor design. March 1, 2012

I tried replacing the cable hoping that was the problem. Unfortunately the problem still exists. I'm thinking the pins might be bent inside A/V Out connection on the camera.

When I turn the camera on, it asks me if I would like to set the date. I can roll the selection from yes to no but the ok button will not select and let me move to the next screen. I tried taking the battery and card out of the camera for a while and putting them back in but i get the same thing. I can't get past the set date screen.... HELP!!!!

My Coolpix S8000 won't charge using the computer or by plugging it into the wall. I've had it for just over a year. I replaced the battery, and it worked fine. Now that battery is exhausted, and it's doing the same thing. Please advise. Thanks!

Answer:
Please verify that that you have the correct option selected for the Charge by computer, MENU > SETUP MENU > Charge by Computer. Also, try it with a backup battery. If the problem persists you will need to send the camera and the charger to be evaluated.

Answer:
When the battery is fully charged there's no indicator. The battery level indicator will appear on the Top left corner of the screen showing a battery half full, this means its low and you need to prepare to charge it. Once the battery runs out of charge you will get a message on the screen "Battery Exhausted" and you won't be able to take more pictures.

Software suddenly doesn't find images to transfer

I am suddenly having issues with transferring images from my S8000 to my computer. It acknowledges the camera with the tone and turns the camera on, so seems to find the device, but then doesn't find the images. The light next to the flash symbol is flashing green but that's as far as I can get. I downloaded the Nikon View NX2 software but same thing - it shows 0 pictures in que. I installed Kaspersky Internet Security Software and Malwarebytes recently and suspect a conflict but don't know what to do. Just bought the D5100 so hope I don't continue to have problems. Haven't installed anything for that camera yet. Thx for any advice/ suggestions.

This problem has arisen over the last few months.

The firmware on the camera was version 1.1 and I have reinstalled this version from the nikon website. I have already reset the camera to default settings. This problem has not been solved by this.

The camera can also now take some time to switch off.

Answer:
Hi
Sounds like there is problem for internal power source or memory...
I would suggest asking "Support" in this section, below picture of your camera...
I believe there is some type of power source that is inside to keep date n time up to date, but I’m not positive.
Hope this helps...

Answer:
Battery life will vary with condition of the battery, temperature and how is used. Make sure to keep the battery contacts clean since soiled contacts can reduce battery performance. Use the battery immediately after charging sin it will lose their charge if left unused.
