New EXPEED image processor ensures high-quality pictures with stunning color and sharpness. Nikon's comprehensive digital imaging processing concept incorporates know-how and technologies accumulated throughout our long history of photographic and digital imaging development. EXPEED is custom-tuned for COOLPIX and applies optimized technologies to render natural-looking pictures of incredible quality and quick response so you will not miss that special moment.

4-Way VR Image Stabilization:

  • Nikon's Optical VR Image Stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake by moving the image sensor. This produces clearer, sharper results in lower lighting or unsteady conditions.
  • Motion Detection automatically detects moving subjects and adjusts the shutter speed and the ISO setting to compensate for camera shake and subject movement.
  • High ISO 3200 capability gives you sharper results when shooting in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects. This creates new opportunities to take sharper, more natural-looking photos in lower light conditions. ISO 3200 is available at 3MP or lower resolution.
  • Nikon's original Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically takes up to 10 shots while the shutter is pressed and then saves the sharpest image.

Nikon's Smart Portrait System:

  • In-Camera Red-Eye Fix™ automatically fixes most instances of red-eye in the camera. You may never see red-eye again.
  • Face-Priority AF is Nikon's face-finding technology that automatically focuses on up to 12 faces in a group portrait.
  • Smile Mode automatically releases the shutter when your subject smiles. The camera will detect the subject's smile and automatically fire the shutter.
  • Blink Warning displays a warning message should the camera detect your subject has blinked.

Incredible 15x Optical Wide-Angle (28-420mm) Zoom-NIKKOR Glass Lens - quality optics provide exceptional images throughout the zoom range. The lens is built on a proud heritage of producing precision camera optics that deliver superb color and razor-sharp results. This amazing lens offers unbeatable compositional freedom with its wide-angle (28mm) to super telephoto coverage (420mm). Sweeping landscapes can be captured as well as those zoomed-in close-ups of the action on the baseball or soccer field!

Huge, Bright 3.0-inch High-Resolution LCD makes it easy to compose and share your pictures. In addition, the high-contrast and anti-reflection coating on the screen assist in clear viewing, even in direct sunlight.

New Sports Continuous Scene Mode for shooting at up to 13 fps, up to 30 frames, when you set the resolution to 3MP or lower. These high-speed capture settings help you stay ahead of the action. Whether it is a swift golf or baseball swing, or the fast action on the soccer field, at 13 fps you will capture that action.

i love it!!! i only wish you had more in stock, along with more colors. i will tell everyone, from the tallest mountain top to the lowest valley, that this is an awsome camera. begininers dream. thanks so much for making this camera. December 21, 2010
L100 is Undoubtedly Awesome Afret taking the shots by L100, you have to believe that, there is a photographer inside you. Great resolution, great value for money, great zooming capasity like Tele. This is a great guide to the way of Professional Photography. But if Nikon provided the option to do the all manual settings like F/L, Aperture, then I'll be a "All Time Favourite". In One Line " It is a Great Memory Stopper"... November 19, 2010
Great Camera for the money For an inexpensive little camera the Coolpix L100 is a great buy. I have found it has many features that only expensive camera's have. The 15X zoom is amazing. I find it hard to take a bad picture with this camera. I am really impresses with all the features and quality of the pictures it produces. Check out the picture I took of the full moon using the digital zoom. Looks like it was taken through a telescope! September 28, 2010
I love love my camera! It takes excellent pictures This is by far the best camera I've ever owned. Had an Olympus and Kodak. Nothing compares! I was amazed at how it takes pics in complete darkness! I've photographed my kids asleep and had great results. At first I was not too happy in the beginning because my pics were red and yellow tinted. Well I later noticed that I had not raised the flash!!! So for those who are disappointed because of their pics tinted, raise the flash at the top of the camera. August 30, 2010
great camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a great camera I have it for the past year, it had a slight problem but NIKON fixed the problem very fast and free under warranty, only charge was for the shipping and handling when sending the camera. After that the camera works without a problem, in about a month I take between 100 and 200 pictures very great camera. Focusing is great, macro function helps with close objects. It is a great camera for taking nature pictures, having a tripod with this camera is a great tool. Get at least 4GB sd card for this camera because of the amazing shots you will be able to take. It is also a great camera for the beginer photopgrapher. August 17, 2010
top notch camera This is a great camera, easy to use, carrying is easy, wonderful color. Pluses: battery exchange [alkaline or rechargeable, I USE ALKALINE AS BACK UP ONLY], zoom brings in great detail ( I love taking close ups, getting great shots of hummingbirds, bugs, flowers also great for up close people shots), clear sun/beach pics, captures the beauty of sunsets. Love the choice of sizes of pictures like large ones for 8x10 or small like email. Once you get the hang of the menu and settings, becomes easy. Used self-timer for first time on vacation, worked great [only drawback only takes one photo and then you must set it again.] Video works well too, I am still learning about that, but plays back well so far both from camera and on computer. Only negative so far is No Viewfinder. Really miss that feature when out in the bright light. Hard to see what I am taking. August 5, 2010
Great..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great replacement for my Sony Cybershot. Loved it ever since I've had it. Bought it on my sons birthday a year ago. Had the party at the park on a beautiful sunny day. It took some very very nice pictures. Have loved it ever since. August 2, 2010
Really Like My Camera Have had my L100 for almost 8 months and have gotten lots of really great pictures. Major drawback is lack of viewfinder. Almost impossible to take pictures in full sun 'cause can't really see image on the screen. However, the pictures I do take are really great. Easy to travel with and not heavy at all. Great purchase and the price was reasonable. Only disappointment is lack of viewfinder. Have had some trouble with the auto focus but hopefully that's being handled now. July 27, 2010
Nice and Easy I LOVE this camera. After my Kodak which had nothing but problems, this one was easy to use and has not given me an ounce of trouble so far and its been over a year. The Zoom is great and I bought it for the macro feature so I could take nature closeups, which have turned out beautifully. Most of all I love its easy on screen menu and the fact that it "feels" like a camera in my hand, not a deck of cards, but its not heavy or bulky. I highly recommend. July 26, 2010
Can get some amazing results with this camera. I have had this camera over a year now and have been very happy with the results. I have used it at my kids' outdoor ballgames as well as indoor games and concerts. To get better shots in the gyms I somtimes had to adjust the lighting with the exposure compensation and could get great shots. The zoom lens on the camera also is great if you dont go past the recommended setting. I love all the different options it gives you and that the menu is easy to understand and that it responds quickly. I too was upset that the camera would not take rechargable batteries, but have used the lithium ones and they last a loooong time. Though the video is not of the greatest quality it is a fun feature to have. Nice to be able to carry just one camera to some of the events rather than a camera and a video camera. Overall I have been really happy and impressed with this camera. A coworker even went out and bought one after borrowing mine. July 26, 2010
Great affordable camera This is my second Nikon digital camera (1st was a 3.2 megapix) and I absolutely love it! This camera takes great pics, and the sports mode is excellent. One of my photos with this camera is even proudly displayed in a conference room at work. July 25, 2010
Great little camera that takes big pictures Was looking to upgrade cameras, from old 3 mpx,did some research and wound up with this one.Wife would never use the old camera I always had to take the pictures, she said old camera to hard to use,now I have to pry this one out of her hands to get to use it.Absolutley love this camera. July 24, 2010
Great for any activity or occasion! I have had my camera for about 2 years. Have taken tons of pictures with it.Delete what you don't want, or wait and delete them after you attach camera to your computer,Before you download the pictures to an assigned area in your computer. Love everything about it. But still not sure how I can take pictures of the full moon yet. But that is not important. A person can set it on "Easy Mode",let the camera think for you. Or you can set it on particular setting. Indoors, outdoors, sunset, sunrise, faces, Or my 2 favorite victums my kids(aka Dogs). It lets you know if someone was blinking. I still would like to get a camera with the different lenses, but this one is great. One draw back is if you want to take a few pictures fast, you may need to use the continuous mode. In my oppinion using rechargeable batteries is the way to go. A little bit more money up front but worth saving a bit of room in the land fill, for other junk I throw away! LOL.I bought 2 sets or 4 each batteries for the camera as soon as I recieved it as a gift. This is my first digital camera . I have nothing else to compare it to like some of the other reviews. I hope you all have a great time with your Coolpix L100 like I have had. July 24, 2010
As a novice photographer that has been taking pictures for some 40 + years, I have never seen a camera that takes such excellent photos of sunsets. Positively amazing. July 24, 2010
It's a big camera: 10MP & 15 optical zoom I was surprised that the L100 took such excellent pics indoors without the flash. But I bike a lot and the camera in a waterproof case is a hassle when you see something you want to take a picture of, like a coiled rattlesnake. So, I am going to have to get a smaller camera (about the size you could slide in your shirt pocket) so I'd be ready when ET visits. July 24, 2010
Amazing and easy This is one of the easyist cameria I have had the pleshure to use. I can and do go between stills to movies on the same memory card. Chainge from outside to inside lighting and than go shoot fire works or night shots with the greatest of ease. I do miss the view finder for bright light in the sun shoots. The battery life of the recomended types give outstanding long gevity. I use rechargables with 4X one time batteries as back up. As of this time the rechargables have lasted longer than the 16 gig memorie card with movies and stills and flash. This cameria is well worth the money. The Zoom is amazing, I have been able to bring into clear fokis cars and buildings one mile away. I do wish the lag time was shorter and the fokis faster but this is a miner anoiance when shooting a fast moving event with stills. Now I use the movie feature and snag the fraim I want for a still. I wish it had a remote trigger, wireless of corse. July 23, 2010
Best Camera For the Price I love this camera, it is easy to use and takes really nice quality pics. I paid $200 and I believe it is worth every penny! I have 5 kids and can easily take motion pics as well as portraits for the family. The only thing I could suggest would be an old fashioned viewfinder, like the others have said. July 23, 2010
Excellent Camera The camera feels solid, is easy to use and produces excellent photographs. The long zoom is very enjoyable. July 23, 2010
Out of the 6 digital cameras I have owned in the past decade, this is by far my favorite. Extremely easy to use, takes wonderful pictures, wide variety of features. July 23, 2010
Great Camera I have really been impressed with this camera, the telephoto capability is really solid and the wide angle when I pull it in is excellent. The ease of use and quality of the picture taking is off the map, we do a lot of traveling and it has filled all the voids in one small profile. July 23, 2010
great camera for the price after decades of SLR cameras with lots of lenses and other gadgets I have a digital camera and I really like it. -picture quallity is good in all modes. -menu system is excellent -like the big window on back - prerequisite for my wife, as well as the right hand grip. -love the sports action sequence: great for birds at the feeder and capturing a good pic of the dog and capturing adlib family group pictures. -I like black & white photos, so I like this option -good feel in the hands. -like the tripod mount screw on bottom -great documentation -I wish it had a port for remote shutter operation. July 23, 2010
Great camera for the money I have had my L100 since June of 2010 and love it. I have taken all types of shots with it and even have used the movie feature. It gives me great close ups and wide angle views. I am really happy with the camera, it's alot of camera for the money. July 23, 2010
Very good camera for my life style I have used this camera for Sports Activities (Golf) and it takes excellent pictures of your swing without blur. Also able to use the zoom to capture the birds in my backyard. Not a professional camera but excellent for the family pictures and actions shots. July 23, 2010
Love it This is my second p&s camera, the first was a cheap cannon. I am by no means an experienced photographer I do like this camera though. Easy set up, easy to take pics with, has lots of different options, kinda poor quality on the slr side of it, but also could be the cheap SD card that I bought am going to buy an SDHC 16gb and will see if there is any difference, for a 2nd camera am very impressed with this camera, way to go Nikkon (I am not saying that Cannon is cheap; just the camera I bought was cheap) July 12, 2010
Lots of fun! I asked for this for my birthday back in May, and this has been a GREAT birthday present! I've always loved to take pictures, but never had a nice enough camera to truly capture what I wanted to. There are very few instances with this camera where I'm unable to capture something, so I've been very pleased with it. It's also easy to use! I get frustrated if there's too much to sit and figure out, but with this camera I can just turn it on, change it to whatever mode I need it to, and shoot! My subjects don't have to get impatient waiting for me to figure out what to do with the camera to take the shot. I've always had a photobug itch, and this camera has finally scratched it! August 14, 2011
Loved everything about camera until it broke!! This camera takes great pictures with many features. I love this camera, up until the battery cover broke! A clip in the door broke off. It was a defect but because my camera had a smudge of drywall on it they denied my warranty, saying I damaged it. I'm a mother of 3 kids I don't use my camera in a professional job so Yes my camera is going to get banged up a little bit, but it has NEVER been dropped. I'm so upset with Nikon about this. They know that they battery doors on this camera have issues yet they do not even try to fix it. Google Nikon Coolpix L100 battery and you'll see what I mean. I am buying the part (new battery door) for $50.66 (in case anyone is wondering it's part number 636-122-5984 plenty in stock!) Then I'm going to use it until it dies, after that I am staying away from Nikon. So I say save your money for a different brand because if your camera breaks then you might as well trash it!! November 29, 2010
A good camera for beginnings I am a younger photographer but I have my own company. This camera was my first real SLR camera. This has good quality pictures but my least favorite part of this camera is the cap because it doesn't connect. This camera is very light and has all the different colors such as black and white, sepia, and all those. I would suggest this for parents that don't want to buy their children very expensive cameras but want a good quality camera. The other problem with this camera is that you have to use AA batterys which don't last very long. October 19, 2010
Overall Great Camera I love my Nikon L100. I shoot from Mountain Landscapes to the moon to bugs that are a portion of an inch long. I have even used it in shoots and sold the pictures. The only disadvantage of this camera is, it is not good in low light situations. The colors come out bad and the shutter slows dramatically. Otherwise this is a great camera! I rolled over 10,000 pictures and decided to upgrade to a D-SLR. But I always have my L100 with me. October 11, 2010
Good camera for a novice photographer I've owned this camera for about 10 months now. When I first went shopping I was too afraid of cameras with too many manual settings and definitely did not want to dish out the money for a DSLR. Here's some of my pros cons with the camera after about two thousand photos Pro: * Close-up mode is amazing. It's been fun snapping photos of ants, flowers and other bugs * Ability to take standard AA batteries is huge plus. While on a trip to Japan my camera was the last one standing since I was able to walk into a convenience store and "recharge" the camera with a fresh set of Duracells * Handles shades of blue, white, yellow, green, purple almost perfectly. Medicore: * Nighttime photography. The lack of manual ISO modes can make for unpredictable results. Sometimes the night shots look great.. other times they're too grainy. * Outdoor scenes and closeup shots with lots of red colors - the color shades have a tendancy to get lost or look over-exposed. Exposure compensation and some reading are needed to get these right with this camera Things that look broken/annoying at first but have workaround: * The default white balance setting is "Auto" when you first buy the camera. "Auto" white balance is TERRIBLE - so bad I thought my camera was broken when I bought it. After tinkering with the other White Balance settings I discovered the camera can handle various lighting environments very well (Just stay away from "Auto") * "Food Mode" has some advanced color settings that can help you get the shot you're looking for when the other modes aren't cutting it (Why Nikon didn't make these color settings available in all the other modes is beyond me) Hope that's helpful. Attached photos are completely unmodified. October 5, 2010
Mostly like it I bought this camera for the zoom and am not disappointed. I didn't have the money for an SLR and still wanted to be able to take pictures of my kids from a distance. Sometimes the pics are a little blurry, using the flash helps with that, though. So for what I spent, i am pretty happy, but still dreaming of an SLR. August 2, 2010

The L100 booklet says use alkaline AA or FR6/L91- AA Lithium Batteries and "Do not use rechargable batteries". The product accessories tab on the L100 page advertises the EN-MH2-B4/MH-73 Kit (4 Rechargeable Batteries + Charger). So, can rechargables be used with the L100 or not?

Answer:
I'm pretty sure when they say "No rechargeable batteries," they're referring to the Lithium-Ion power pack rechargeable batteries that are used in a lot of pocket cameras now, because they aren't compatible with this camera.

Ex: http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Batteries/25277/EN-EL4-Rechargeable-Li-ion-Battery.html

The rechargeable batteries they show on the accessories page are standard voltage AA batteries, which is what this takes. Hope this helped. :)

We have more than enough memory left on our memory card and we get this message. We have even deleted hundreds of photos off the card and tried to take more pictures and within a half a dozen pictures taken, it shows again "out of memory". HELP?!?!?!?!?

It shows this because the camera's memory card is out of memory. Also meaning you need to delete pictures or get another memory card.

Answer:
There may be something with the memmory card, not the camera. That's the only help I can offer, sorry. Try getting a really cheap SD card just to test it, or borrow 1 for a minute, just long enough to see if it's the card or the camera. The lock option on the SD card might have something to do with it, I'm not sure, maybe you could try that too

i do have the same problem. i have google how to fix it without paying lots of money and i came to the conclusion that it is a default in this series and most people tend to fix this problem by leaving the batteries out of the camera for about a week and then trying again and usually it works so, i am also crossing my fingers to see how it goes.

I have HP desktop & Lenovo laptop both running WinXP. I've installed & reinstalled Nikon Transfer software, but the camera just seems to not be recognized as a device by the computers.
Is it possible the USB cable from camera to computer is bad? I have two and same result - camera is not recognized by computer so I can't download pics to computer.
thanks

Answer:
I have 2 different cameras 1 is a Nikon and the other is a Fujifilm. My pc is running off of XP home sp2. I have noticed that it takes a long time for either camera to be recognised by the pc. I believe it something in the XP software because, at work our pc's are running off of Windows 7 and I have no problems loading or even previewing them from the camera.
The jist of this is if you are using Window's XP(2000), be patient, could take as long as 5 - 10 min. before it gives you an upload prompt. Also I have to reboot evertime with XP when I want to upload new pictures.
Hope this helps!

Answer:
If no operations are performed for about 30 seconds (default setting) the monitor turns off and the camera enters standby mode. After a further three minutes, the Auto off function will turn the camera off automatically. Press MENU > SETUP > AUTO OFF to set time before camera enters standby mode.
