This product has great features for price and size
I have yet to find a situation this camera could not handle. Low light indoor scenes are great. I replaced a 550 with the 630. I am taking my D80 out less and less. A lot of bang for the buck!

small enough to fit in any pocket.easy to use with one hand.small enough to carry at all times so you always have a camera with you.just wish the battery would last longer and had a longer zoom.

The best pocket camera on the market
I use this camera continously all day at my job taking as many as 300+ pictures a day. Compared to the cameras that the other guys I work with use, this is absolutely this is best. They think so also. The only downside is the inability to see the screen in bright light. An old fashion viewer would on top would be a good improvement.

Excellent Business Camera
I use the camera for both personal use and business use. In business, it must be light, very easy to carry and stow and make great pictures from very close to very far. Close, it is top notch; far, it is a little weak (just not enough telephoto). When climbing out on a rig hanging over the side of a 72-story building to inspect joints, you don't want bulk. This camera is handy and is quick to adjust focal range. Pictures prove an excellent backup to notes taken. Move it over to personal use and it takes great pictures of people, scenery and poor golf swings. Not happy about the swing, but it was easy to set up to take a video of my golf swing from both back and side. This camera is just so handy.

A Real Fantastic Camera
My children gifted me the S630 and I love it. Takes wonderful photos, is easy to use and the large screen is perfect.
My only negative review is regarding the USB port which is not easily accessible due to the inability to move the cover over far enough.
Regardless, I highly recommend this camera

I'm loving it!
This camera is great for those who are photographers as a hobby. It has very good resolution, good zoom abilities and has good video. I use it at work and for hobby photography - it is perfect!

EASY TO CARRY AND USE
I'm in my 60's and this was my first digital camera. I wanted something durable; small enough to carry in my pocket; and not complicated to use, while producing fairly decent quality photos.
I found the S630 excellent in all areas in the automatic mode. I'm now taking a photography class and realize that once I learn manual mode as well, I will be able to take even better photos, depending on the situation.
Therefore, whether Novice, such as me, or professional, I believe for the money you can't beat the S-630, which I'm told from more experienced, has many features found on more expensive, larger cameras.

Nice design; could benefit from aperture control
Since my normal camera is an 8x10 film camera, this, "little camera to stick in my pocket when out exploring," had much to live up to. I've been extremely pleased with the flexibility it provides. It would benefit greatly from the ability to control the aperture and depth-of-field. Regardless, I've been able to do some very nice work; and the 12 MP provides sufficient information that 12x prints are quite nice. Perhaps with the lowest ISO setting, little or no post processing, and the camera on a tripod, you might get an acceptable 16x20 out of it.

Overall excellent camera
Easy to use, just wish the focus with the zoom was better. If I just take pictures and send them in for printing many seem to be out of focus. If not for the Nikon program to fix photos I would not like the camera as much.

Love the camera!
Great for zoom picturers...I have a Nikon D40x and love it, but it is big and bulky when hiking or biking. The s630 takes pictures that can be cropped, the quality is awesome & it is easy to put into a backpack.

easy to learn and use
I have used this camera for about 9 months now. I have gone from an occasional picture taker to I can't leave home with out my camera anymore. This camera is lightweight and easy to carry. Very sharp and clear pictures and I like the crop feature. Best investiment I have made in a long time

awesome camera
love this camera. great pictures. very happy with it.
July 23, 2010
excellent
The camera is great. I have a Nikon user since 1964, this is my first digital camera. I get great pictures, but I miss an optical viewfinder. I am used to holding the camera to my eye. If an attachment could be made to be able to view at eye level, it would even better

Doesn't take an expert
I love this camera. It takes GREAT pictures. It is very easy to use. Easy to upload the pictures from the camera to my PC. Nikon allows for easy editing when my pictures are "not so well taken" -- cropping, etc. I love the face recognition and the alert in case someone blinked. I even got that message when I took a picture of a sleeping baby, so it not only detects blinks, it knows when eyes are closed. Wonderful product!

This product was everything you could want
The features on this product are almost endless. Purchased for the macro capability and have found so many other useful capabilities.
The photos from this camera have all been very sharp and as good as can be expected. It meets or exceeds all the specs

The Greatest
Easy to use; fantastic pix
Not just family and friends but also nature & landscape - could not chose more than one under 'favorite subject'

Great product
Easy to use and carry, reliable, and great photos makes it an ideal companion on outings. I was attracted to it when I saw my little granddaughter's face on the display. Boy, did she lead me in the right direction!

Fantastic
Convenient to carry, easy to use, and makes fantastic photographs. From macro to telephoto, the menus produce great pictures across the spectrum of lighting conditions in the outdoors.

Beautiful Pictures
This camera is so easy to use and takes beautiful pictures. If you are a novice this is a fantastic point and shoot camera and no adjustments are needed to take great pictures right out of the box. For the more technologically and photo advanced this camera is great too. It is easy to make adjustments to get the shot just the way you want! It is family friendly - my 7year old and 9 year old use this as well to take videos of each other and pictures when we are out and then turn out wonderful. All around a great camera. I am Nikon girl now!

Excellent camera and takes very good pictures
Avery good camera and takes excellent photos. But it is useless in bright sunlight. You can not see the view in bright sunlight on the monitor. You have to use something to shield the monitor in order to see the view.

The product is great but....
My husband got this as an update because i wanted the 7 x optical zoom. its great but i find that many of the photos come out cloudy. doesn't matter what its set at....the lens is clean. its disappointing as it takes such a great picture that the quality of the photos especially flowers etc are a bit 'over exposed'. not sure what i am doing wrong. i kept the other Nikon cool pix 4000 series and often am tempted to go back to that i got some lovely pictures from that one without the cloudiness.

Wish it had more manual settings!
I own a Nikon DSLR that I really enjoy using, but for snapshots its just easier to throw my Coolpix in my purse and call it good. I chose this model because of the larger zoom in relation to the size of the camera, and also because of its macro capabilities. Over and over though, I'm finding myself wishing it had at least aperture priority or shutter priority, if not full manual controls.
July 26, 2010
This camera takes excellent pics.
The only irritating area is the USB hookup. I had a hard time getting the hang of it. The opening is much too small.
July 25, 2010
The S630 is great, but!
The S630 is wonderful and it exceded my expectations. I was on a trip in the Bahamas and the camera got wet. Returned camera for repair and was notified warrenty would not cover repair. So I have to pay an additional $129.00 for my great camera. SAD.

Takes good pix with a little practice
I would have given the rating of Excellent but for one thing...after only 2 1/2 months the battery would not charge, I was advised that the battery is not under warrantee and I should get a new battery to see if the problem may be the charger otherwise there is nothing they can do. I own 3 other Nikon cameras and have never had any problems with them until now. Since this was the third time that I charged the battery (or tried to) I feel that it should have been replaced at no charge to me but I had to pay $30 to replace it.
As far as the picture taking and quality is concerned, I absolutely love this camera! It takes a while to learn to use it and some practice but once you do it is wonderful. The pictures are sharp and clear even when enlarged and printed on my home printer.

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT
I initially bought this camera to take with me when I'm on my road bike and I would like to capture an image of something I see and my SLR cameras are just too large.
I chose this camera for the name for one, and the specs for two. I've owned nearly 2 dozen Nikon cameras starting way back in 1978 and shot professionally with them for a number of years.
I finally chose this model because of it's 12. Megapixel sensor, the large LCD screen and the 7x optical zoom lense.
I have now had this for more than a year and have used it quite extensively on my vacation this year. The quality of the photos and the ease of the controls are wonderful. I only have two minor issues and they are, the zoom is a bit touchy. I've tried to gently zoom in or out and not get the composition I'm looking for. Maybe a finer zoon control would be nice.
2nd is the self-timer. I was taking a number of shots at night using the self-timer to take the picture. Each time I had to reset the timer before each image. Just found it a bit irritating.

Touchy Zooming control
If there's anything that I would like to comment is the control in zooming, too touchy, otherwise everything is good.
July 23, 2010
This is a good camera
I have had this camera for over a year now and it performs pretty well. Pictures are more than acceptable. It is easy to use and has a nice large viewing screen. However, the lag time from pushing the button for the shutter to when the picture is actually taken is much too slow. I have missed a number of (what I might think might have been) great pictures because of this lag. If that does not bother you, then you would have an excellent camera.
July 23, 2010
The S630 takes good pictures. The zoom feature is very fast. To fast, hard to make small changes in the zoom setting. If I had known this before purchasing, I would have looked for a different camera.

You will need to get closer to the fence in order to avoid it. Also, you can change the Focus mode to Manual so you can change the focus point, see page # 110 of the user’s manual for the COOLPIX s630.
I've had my S630 for just under 2 years. Only just started having a problem when after taking a picture and I go to view it on the camera I get a 'File Contains No Image Data'. What could be the cause of this problem?

Why is it that whenever I turn on my Nikon Coolpix S630 the screen goes back and the buttons are unresponsive?
I have had this camera for almost three years and it has just started doing this. It sound like the camera is turning on but the screen is black and I cant' take a picture. I must take the battery out and put it back in in order for the lens to retract back. My battery is fully charged, but could this mean my battery is going out for good? Help!
