Superb piece of glass
I love the bokeh you get with this lens and it's amazingly sharp.

A "Superb Lens In All Respects"
I have used Nikon products since the early 70's. I have now owned this lens for approximately one year, mounted on my D3s, I don't believe this combination can be beaten in this field! Worth every penny. A Typical Nikon product

Best lens for stage performance
This lens works great for me when shooting on-stage performance with limited lighting, and it works best when mated with D700 body. On D300, the auto focus was not very accurate. Besides D300 was way behind D700 in dynamic range and high ISO noise. Of course, with D3s it should be even better if one can afford.

Reputed to be Nikon's best lens
Or so I've read, but the competition is stiff to be sure. I bought this lens used five years ago and it has become my main walk around lens, even for birding, without tc. Although it's a heavy lens it is great for travelling light, w/o tripod, when it gets too heavy around my neck I just throw the barrel of the lens on my shoulder or carry the cam in my right hand by the body, wrist strap would be good though I don't use one. I shoot it mostly at f4 but can use it successfully wide open if you're careful. This lens is a big part of why I prefer Nikon.

The D700 has a built in motor, the 70-200mm lens as well so yep should autofocus. Check out this link http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13867/kw/What%20lenses%20can%20I%20use%20on%20the%20Nikon%20d700
What will be any negatives on using this with my D60 body. I will be upgrading body soon but can just afford the lens for now.

How do I attach a filter to this lens? Or does it require a very specific filter?
I have a 77mm Hoya Pro1 Digital filter, but can't attach it to the lens. There is a rubber bumper - am I supposed to remove that?
