The EN-EL3a is a rechargeable Li-ion battery that provides 7.4v and 1500 mAh of power to select Nikon D-SLR cameras.
The battery can be charged using the MH-18, MH-18a or MH-19 battery chargers.

EN-EL3e sufficient for needs IF . . . . . . . Wow, I cannot believe that no one has written a review for this item. Anyway, I use several of these for my D300s and my D700. I DID make certain to PROPERLY CONDITION them to obtain maximum output/life. Properly conditioning means that you charge them, and then completely discharge and recharge them again, doing this for several cycles. This creates an internal chemical condition whereby the batteries will be able to provide their MAXIMUM output and life. FAILURE to condition Li-ion (or NiCAD) batteries will result in shorter hour-to-hour capacity and inability to obtain maximum current conditions. Therefore, for all users, pay heed to BATTERY CONDITIONING as it is important. There are many postings at Nikon complaining of poor battery life and failure to condition them is what the problem really is, and is unlikey (or rarely) due to to a defective battery or camera. And as is also stated elsewhere, constant usage of LIVE VIEW mode and the built-in internal flash will create a large battery drain, to be expected. Nikon's batteries are good items and are properly matched to camera models. Also it is recommended to always have a spare battery. For the minimal cost it is a good and sometimes wise benefit. I own a D70 and a D300 and need a battery for the D70. On the B&H website, they list the EN-EL3e as a "replacement" for the EN-EL3a. However, they are not alike. The EL3a has 2 contacts and the EL3e has 3. I'm afraid to insert the EL3e into the D70 it might damage the camera.

Answer:
there's a reason you can't find one: the EN-EL3a has been superseded by the EN-EL3e, which is compatible with the earlier battery, but lasts longer.
